President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Issues Warning to Coup Plotters in Niger
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who also serves as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has issued a stern warning to coup plotters in the neighboring Republic of Niger. This comes in response to the troubling situation in Niger, where President Mohamed Bazoum is currently being detained by members of the Presidential Guard, who were given an “ultimatum” by the army.
In a statement he personally signed, President Tinubu expressed deep concern over the developments in Niger, particularly the blockade of the presidential palace in Niamey by soldiers. He strongly emphasized that the ECOWAS leadership will not tolerate any actions that disrupt the smooth functioning of legitimate authority in Niger or any other part of West Africa.
President Tinubu emphasized ECOWAS’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring that democracy thrives in the region. He asserted that they are closely monitoring the situation in Niger and will do everything within their power to firmly establish and nurture democracy in the area.

As the Chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu made it unequivocally clear that Nigeria stands in solidarity with the elected government in Niger.
