Nyesom Wike Clarifies Misinformation Surrounding VP Lodge Construction

Amid swirling controversy over the construction of the Vice President’s Lodge, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vehemently denied allegations against him, asserting that misinformation and falsehoods are being spread regarding the project.

Wike made these remarks while officially launching the resurfacing and rehabilitation of existing roads in the Asokoro District of the FCT.

Addressing the contentious issue, he sought to set the record straight concerning the construction of the Vice President’s residence, highlighting that the contract was initially awarded by the Federal Government to Julius Berger in 2010 at a cost of N7 billion.

The Minister clarified that the project had been abandoned for a staggering 13 years before his tenure. Emphasizing the responsibility of the FCT Administration to prevent the waste of public funds, Wike stated, “People should not be sentimental and tell lies.

We did not award that contract. All we are merely doing, because of our policy of not leaving other projects to be abandoned, we felt we should continue with those projects.”

Expressing the government’s commitment to ensuring the completion of vital projects, Wike urged FCT residents to support the government’s policies and initiatives.

The construction of the Vice President’s Lodge has been a subject of intense scrutiny and debate, with various allegations and conflicting narratives surrounding its commencement and subsequent abandonment.

Wike’s declaration aimed to counter the misinformation circulating about his involvement in the project and reiterated the administration’s dedication to fulfilling its responsibilities to the people and the prudent use of public resources.
