In a statement on his social media account, Adeyanju expressed dismay over the arrest: “Our client, @thatverydarkman, has just been arrested by the police on the instruction of CP Igwe for exposing someone who allegedly duped a Nigerian abroad. Instead of apprehending the accused fraudster, VeryDarkMan was arrested on defamation charges.”

The arrest reportedly came under the directive of Commissioner of Police Benneth Igwe of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
