According to Idris, President Tinubu will meet with Organised Labour on Thursday before he finally makes a decision. And the result of this meeting would help agree on the quantum of money to be forwarded for approval at the National Assembly.

The Federal Executive Council has done enough deliberation on the issue of the national minimum wage and has scheduled a meeting with organised Labour for this week,” Idris stated. He reiterated that though President Tinubu is amenable to the increase in the minimum wage, he would not want to precipitate an inflationary trend that could have negative effects on the economy of the country.

Revision of the minimum wage has been in the prime consideration and debate of late among the stakeholders. Several groups are vying for an increase in the wage to match the ever increasing living costs. And of this, the government is also treading cautiously, seeking to strike a balance, maintaining fair wages for workers at the same time, balancing the overall economic stability of the nation.

The verdict, due on Thursday, is being awaited with bated breath in both the public and private sectors, for the final call would have an impact on not only the livelihood of workers but also that of the general economic scene.
