Abia State Introduces New Minimum Wage of N70,000 for Workers. 

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000, set to take effect from October 2024. This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting chaired by the governor on Monday.

Kanu emphasised the state government’s dedication to enhancing the welfare of its workforce. He assured that payments of the new minimum wage would commence in the coming days.

The state government is committed to the minimum wage, and within the next few days, payment of the new minimum wage will commence,” Kanu stated.

He further noted that if the governor decides to exceed the national minimum wage standard, it would reflect the state’s commitment to its workers. This sentiment was echoed by the Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Sunny Onwuma, who confirmed the development.

The introduction of this new wage is expected to positively impact the financial well-being of workers in Abia State, as the government continues to prioritise their welfare.
