Gov Oyebanji Comments on Chief’s Deposition by Monarch, Raises Concerns

Ekiti State Rejects Chieftaincy Removal, Raises Concerns over Traditional Insignia.

The Ekiti State Government lead by Governor Biodun Oyebanji  has rejected the recent deposition of Chief Kehinde Oladapo, the Oisajigan of Ejigan Quarters in Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area, by the Alaaye of Efon, Oba Emmanuel Aladejare.

This decision comes after Chief Oladapo lodged a complaint regarding his removal, which allegedly lacked due process. The government presided over the matter and deemed the removal invalid.

In his defense, the Alaaye, through a written letter, accused Chief Oladapo of disrespect for dressing in attire reserved for royalty, such as beaded crowns and regalia, and for neglecting his official duties within the palace. These actions, the Alaaye claimed, constituted acts of insubordination.

Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, presiding over the matter, urged the Alaaye to comply with the government’s decision and reinstate Chief Oladapo for the sake of maintaining peace.

However, Ms. Afuye also emphasized the state’s directive prohibiting any chief from wearing attire reserved for royalty, including beaded crowns, caps, and traditional insignia. This statement reinforces the government’s stance on maintaining proper decorum within the traditional hierarchy.
