Federal Government Orders Suspension of Dana Air Operations Following Series of Safety Incidents
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has instructed the acting director-general of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, to halt the operations of Dana Airline for a comprehensive audit in light of recent safety concerns.
The directive follows an incident involving a Dana Airline McDonnell Douglas MD-82 aircraft that veered off the runway at the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday morning, resulting in the temporary closure of the runway.

In a letter dated April 24, 2024, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, titled “Immediate Suspension Of Dana Airlines Pending Safety And Financial Health Audit,” the minister expressed grave concerns regarding the airline’s safety and financial viability.
The minister directed that the audit should cover all aspects of safety protocols, maintenance procedures, and financial health to ensure compliance with aviation regulations.
