President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that only Allah has the ultimate authority to determine how long he remains in power, saying God can take the mandate away from him and give it to another person if he fails to govern according to His will.

The President made the statement during a video interview shared by the Tinubu Media Centre, where he reflected on his recent spiritual journey to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and his prayers for Nigeria and his administration.

Tinubu said his position as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria was a divine favour, considering the country’s large population and the number of people who could have occupied the office.

According to him, political power ultimately belongs to Allah, who can entrust it to anyone but also withdraw it when it is not properly utilised.

“There’s no other God but Almighty Allah. He’s the giver and the taker. He owns the power. He says, use it well. If you don’t use it in accordance with my dictates, I can take it from you and give it to another person,” the President said.

He added that becoming Nigeria’s President was a privilege he attributed to divine intervention.

“Out of millions of people, to be the President and Commander-in-Chief is a favour from God Almighty,” he stated.

Tinubu Reveals Prayers During Umrah

Speaking about his recent visit to the Holy Mosque in Mecca, Tinubu expressed gratitude to Allah for the opportunity to perform Umrah, describing the successful journey as a moment of spiritual fulfilment.

The President disclosed that he prayed for wisdom and resilience to continue serving Nigerians, adding that he believed his requests had been granted.

He also recalled performing Umrah before the 2023 presidential election, when he asked Allah to bless the spiritual exercise and promised to return to express his gratitude if his prayer was answered.

“Well, I ask for wisdom and resilience to continue to serve the people. I know that has been granted. Prior to 2023 election, I did the same thing.

“I asked Allah to bless my Umrah then. He did, and I promise that I’ll come back to thank him,” he said.

President Prays for Nigeria’s Unity and Prosperity

Tinubu said his prayers during the spiritual journey also focused on Nigeria’s unity, peaceful coexistence and economic prosperity.

He acknowledged the country’s religious and cultural diversity, expressing hope that Nigerians of different faiths would find common ground and work towards national development.

“The prayer is for Allah, subhana to Allah, to comfort our diversity. Nigeria is full of diverse people. It’s made up of all the faiths.

“May Allah comfort our diversity to prosperity for the entire country. That’s the prayer,” he stated.

The President further reaffirmed his determination to pursue policies aimed at developing the country and improving the welfare of Nigerians.

He said his commitment to national development had grown stronger, adding that his administration would continue working towards prosperity with the support of the people.

“My commitment is higher, determined to bring prosperity, to develop the country consistent with the wish of Allah and the support of the people,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu Says Nigeria’s Economy Has Emerged from Dark Tunnel

On the state of the economy, the President expressed optimism about the direction of the country, describing the economic foundation as solid.

He said Nigeria had moved beyond what he described as a dark tunnel, expressing confidence in the progress being made.

“The foundation is solid. The economy has come out of the dark tunnel. It’s inspiring,” he said.

Tinubu, however, stressed that national development must go beyond immediate economic concerns, arguing that leaders have a responsibility to create opportunities for younger generations.

He said investing in the future of Nigerian youths should remain a major priority, warning that the failure to do so would raise questions about how the present generation of leaders would be remembered decades from now.

“We need to build a future for our youth. If we don’t invest in their future, in 50 years from now, how do we want to be remembered as leaders? That’s the main thing. I’m not looking for anything else,” he added.

President Urges Nigerians to Put God First

The President also encouraged Nigerians to put God first, listen to their consciences and follow the right path in their individual and collective efforts towards building a prosperous country.

“It is important to put Allah first, then move on. Follow your conscience. Follow the right path that will lead Nigeria to that greatness,” he said.

Tinubu further expressed appreciation to those who facilitated his visit to Saudi Arabia, particularly for the hospitality and recognition accorded to him as the leader of the Nigerian delegation.

He said seeing Nigeria’s green-white-green national colours during the visit to the Kaaba was an emotional experience that further strengthened his sense of gratitude.

Concluding his remarks, the President expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its difficulties through faith in God, while acknowledging the challenges confronting the country.

“We are all facing challenges and hostility around us. We will overcome it with faith in God Almighty. I am grateful forever,” he said.

His comments come as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Tinubu seeking another four-year term in office.
