The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has appealed to President Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency to prevent further killings and unrest in the region. This urgent plea was made by Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the Rivers APC Caretaker Committee (CTC), following the swearing-in ceremony of 23 CTC Chairmen by Governor Siminialayi Fubara on Wednesday.

The party expressed grave concerns about the escalating violence and disturbances in Rivers State, underscoring the need for decisive action to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. Okocha emphasised that such a measure is crucial to restoring peace and stability in the state.

In a related development, the Rivers APC has disassociated itself from comments made by former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi. Amaechi was quoted as saying that 84 percent of Nigerians would not vote for President Tinubu in the 2027 elections. The party categorically denied these statements, reiterating their support for the President and distancing themselves from Amaechi’s remarks.
