Professor Robert Oghenedoro Dode has accepted a nomination to appear as Guest Lecturer and deliver the keynote lecture at the 2026 Annual Conference and 6th Lecture Series of the Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF). The event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at David’s Event Centre, GRA, Asaba.

Dode will speak on the theme, “Democracy Under Pressure: Electoral Integrity, Security Challenges and Media Accountability in Nigeria.” His academic background in governance, electoral politics, public administration, security and strategic affairs is expected to inform his treatment of some of the most pressing problems confronting Nigeria’s democratic development.

The keynote lecture is expected to offer a rigorous examination of the condition of Nigeria’s democratic institutions, the need for credible and transparent electoral processes, emerging security concerns, and the media’s responsibility in advancing accountability, transparency and good governance. His involvement is also expected to raise the intellectual weight of a conference that has grown into an important platform for public discourse in Delta State and across Nigeria.

Academic and professional profile

Dode teaches Political Science at Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, where he has also held the post of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics). He is a native of Otorho-Idjerhe in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State. He earned a B.Sc. in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Uyo, finishing as the Best Student in his discipline, then added an M.Sc. in Public Administration from the same institution and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Port Harcourt.

His career spans more than two decades of academic and administrative work. He has served as Head of Department, Dean of Faculty and Director of the School of Lifelong Education, and has chaired several strategic university committees. Political Science, Public Administration, Governance, Public Policy, Development Studies, International Relations, Electoral Politics and Strategic Studies fall within his teaching and research interests.

Beyond the university, Dode has contributed to national academic and policy development through engagements with the National Universities Commission as a Resource Person, Accreditation Team Member and Academic Assessor. At the National Defence College, Abuja, he has worked as a Sabbatical Fellow, Guest Lecturer, Research Supervisor and Academic Resource Person, adding to discourse on governance, security and strategic affairs. He has also acted as External Examiner and Assessor for several universities in Nigeria and has received numerous honours for his scholarship and contributions to educational advancement.

The DOPF Annual Conference and Lecture Series draws government officials, policymakers, legislators, academics, media professionals, civil society organisations, security experts, political leaders and other stakeholders for engagement on issues of national importance. Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori is expected to attend the 2026 edition as Special Guest of Honour, alongside other eminent personalities.

With Dode as keynote lecturer, the 2026 conference and 6th Lecture Series is expected to provide an intellectual platform for examining the pressures on Nigeria’s democracy and for exploring practical pathways towards stronger electoral institutions, improved security, responsible media practice and more accountable governance.
