Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has warned that criminal activities and the arming of individuals for political violence will not be tolerated, declaring that offenders will feel the full impact of the law.

The governor made these remarks on Wednesday at Government House in Asaba during a courtesy call by the newly posted Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale.

Highlighting that security is a core foundation of his administration’s MORE Agenda, Oborevwori emphasized that safety and peace remain vital for driving economic expansion, attracting investment, fostering development, and securing the welfare of residents.

He asserted that his government maintains an uncompromising posture on crime regardless of a suspect’s political ties or social position, maintaining that no individual will receive protection from legal action.

“If you are my brother, if you are my friend, if you commit, you go for it. Nobody is above the law,” Oborevwori stated.

The governor encouraged the new police chief to maintain coordinated, intelligence-driven operations, advising heightened monitoring across residential communities, major roadways, and water routes, especially within riverine domains.

He also advocated for expanded partnership among police officers, sister security organs, traditional leaders, youth representatives, local vigilante outfits, and key community figures, noting that a community-focused strategy builds trust and enhances information collection.

Addressing the widespread presence of weapons, Oborevwori raised concerns over civilian access to rifles and instructed security units to step up operations to retrieve illegal firearms and detain anyone holding unlicensed arms.

To bolster law enforcement efforts, he affirmed that the state would keep aiding security outfits through the Delta State Security Trust Fund by supplying patrol vehicles and logistical resources. Oborevwori reassured CP Erale of ongoing state backing to preserve peace across Delta, including throughout upcoming political campaigns.

During his remarks earlier, CP Erale pledged to the governor and residents his dedication to ensuring stability and safety throughout the state.

He committed to conducting operations with discipline and professionalism, expressing a desire to instil these standards across the entire state command.

Furthermore, the commissioner outlined plans to restructure Delta’s current security framework and expand upon past successes to enhance public safety.
