2027: God Has Granted My Request to Continue for Second Term – Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed confidence that his prayer to continue serving Nigeria for a second term has been answered by Almighty Allah, following his recent spiritual journey to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The President made the remarks on Monday while reflecting on his performance of Umrah in Makkah, where he was granted the rare privilege of entering the Holy Ka’abah to offer prayers alongside members of the Nigerian delegation.
Tinubu described the experience as a historic and deeply cherished moment, expressing appreciation to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for making the opportunity possible.
Sheikh Dahlulah Muthawal of Masjid al-Haram led the Nigerian President into the sacred structure, where he offered prayers of gratitude to Almighty Allah for the privilege of becoming Nigeria’s President and for the opportunity to serve the country.
Tinubu Prays for Wisdom, Strength to Continue in Office
Speaking about his experience inside the Ka’abah, Tinubu said he prayed for wisdom and resilience to continue leading Nigeria, expressing his belief that Allah had granted his request.
The President also recalled undertaking a similar spiritual journey before the 2023 presidential election, when he prayed for Allah’s blessings during his Umrah and promised to return to express gratitude if his request was granted.
He said his latest visit was partly in fulfilment of that promise.
“I thank the Crown Prince and all the administrators of the holy land. I thank them for the hospitality and recognition given to me as the leader of the delegation and the country.
“We are all facing challenges and hostility around us. We will overcome them with faith in God Almighty. I’m grateful forever. I thank the King and the royal Crown Prince,” Tinubu said.
Reflecting on his prayers, he added: “I asked for wisdom and resilience to continue to serve the people. I know that prayer has been granted.”
The President’s remarks come as political activities and discussions surrounding the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, with his administration expected to seek another mandate.
Tinubu Reflects on Power, Says Authority Belongs to Allah
The President also used the occasion to reflect on the religious significance of power and political authority, referencing Surah Aal-Imran, Verse 26 of the Holy Qur’an.
The verse emphasises that Almighty Allah is the ultimate owner of sovereignty, with the authority to give power to whom He wills and take it away from whom He wills.
Tinubu said political leadership should be regarded as a responsibility and a trust rather than a permanent entitlement, stressing the need for those in positions of authority to govern with humility and serve the people responsibly.
“There is no other God but Almighty Allah. He is the giver and the taker. He owns power and authority. He says, ‘If I give you, use it well. If you don’t use it in accordance with my dictates, I can take it from you and give it to another person. I am the only One who has that authority,’” he said.
He further described his emergence as Nigeria’s President and Commander-in-Chief as an extraordinary blessing that should inspire greater dedication to national service.
According to him, being chosen to lead a country with millions of people is a privilege that only Almighty Allah can grant.
My Commitment to Nigeria Is Stronger – Tinubu
Tinubu also reaffirmed his commitment to national development, saying his spiritual experience had strengthened his determination to pursue policies capable of improving the country’s economic fortunes and living standards.
He assured Nigerians that his administration remained focused on promoting prosperity, national development and shared progress.
“My commitment to Project Nigeria is higher. I am determined to usher in prosperity and fully develop the country, consistent with the wish of Allah and the support of the people,” he stated.
The President urged Nigerians to put their faith in Allah, follow their conscience and embrace the right path towards national greatness.
He also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic direction, describing the foundation laid by his administration as solid and insisting that the country was gradually emerging from a difficult economic period.
“The foundation is solid, and the economy has come out of the dark tunnel. This is inspiring,” he said.
President Highlights Investment in Nigerian Youth
Beyond the economy, Tinubu stressed the importance of investing in young Nigerians, warning that the decisions taken by current leaders would determine how future generations judge their leadership.
He said developing the country’s human capital and creating opportunities for young people must remain central to the national development agenda.
“We need to build a future for our youth. If we don’t invest in their future, how do we want to be remembered as leaders 50 years from now? That’s the main thing,” the President added.
Tinubu described his presidency as a rare privilege, maintaining that his responsibility was to use the opportunity to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
His comments come as attention gradually shifts towards the 2027 presidential election, with the President signalling his determination to continue his leadership beyond his first term.
