Yobe Emir Calls For Action To Curb Hawking, Protect Vulnerable Girls

The Emir of Ngelzarma in Fune Local Government Area, Yobe State, Alhaji Muhammad Zanna Mai Yeri, has called on government and other relevant stakeholders in the state to address the issue of young girls hawking to protect their dignity and prevent gender-based violence.

He made the call while speaking at a roundtable organised by the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development on the role of faith and traditional leaders in combating gender-based violence in Yobe.

The emir highlighted the dangers young girls face when forced into hawking, especially school-aged girls who are often seen at motor parks, markets, and filling stations rather than in school.

“Many girls are exposed to serious risks, including sexual assault, as a result of hawking,” the emir said.

He noted that the problem continues to persist despite efforts to end it.

Alhaji Muhammad Zanna Mai Yeri said his emirate, alongside local stakeholders, has launched awareness campaigns to address gender-based violence, reduce hawking, and promote girls’ education.

He urged the government to review hawking policies and strengthen measures to protect young girls from exploitation, emphasising the need to prosecute offenders who jeopardise the future of vulnerable girls.

  • How My Friend Wrecked My Marriage – Nollywood Actress, Ronke Odusanya Opens Up

According to Ronke, the friend also alleged that she was having a romantic affair with a senator and had gone to sleep in his house with their daughter, Fife.

     Ronke Odusanya

Ronke Odusanya, the popular Nollywood actress, has spoken up about how a friend contributed to the crash of her marriage to Saheed Olarewaju, popularly known as Jago.

Ronke, in an interview with her colleague, Bimpe Akintunde, said her friend told Jago that she had an intention to quit the marriage and delve into prostitution.

According to Ronke, the friend also alleged that she was having a romantic affair with a senator and had gone to sleep in his house with their daughter, Fife.

The movie also stated she was not financially buoyant when her marriage crashed, noting that many of her personal belongings were taken away.

Ronke added that Jago later regretted listening to her friend.

She said, “When it happened that time and degenerated, my partner later realized that he shouldn’t have listened to the things he heard back then.

“A friend of mine told him that I wanted to leave him and go into prostitution. That when I left that night, I went to sleep in a Senator’s house with Fife. When he told me, my mouth was left open.

“Then I sent him a picture; God gave me grace; I didn’t know how I did it. I did a recording of the time and the date, were on my phone for the video. I recorded it when we got to where we would sleep. When we left, I didn’t have up to N10,000 in my account, but I decided this was it.

“I had nothing; all my jewelry was taken away, and I fainted with that. I was wondering where to start from. I cried so much that day because I didn’t have money to get an accommodation.”

  • EndBadGovernance Protests: Bauchi Governor Condemns Harsh Bail For Detained Minors

EndBadGovernance Protests: Bauchi Governor Condemns Harsh Bail For Detained Minors

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed anger over the hunger treatment meted out to some minors arrested on August 3, 2024, in connection with their participation in the August nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests.

The governor revealed that about 125 arrested youths, including minors, languished in police cells until Friday, November 1, 2024, when they were arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja, during which five of them collapsed in court.

DAILY POST recalls that the teenage defendants were arraigned before Justice Obiora Egwuatu on 10 charges, including terrorism, attempted government overthrow, and alleged mutiny.

Governor Mohammed condemned the inhumane treatment of the minors, particularly the use of starvation as a punishment.

According to him, the development reflects the dire conditions that many detainees suffer within police custody.

In a post on his verified Facebook page, titled “ArewaMuFarka” (Our North, Wake Up), the governor voiced concerns about the lack of unity among northern leaders, criticising their silence on the maltreatment of the young protesters.

“How can someone who struggles to afford three meals a day be expected to pay N10 million in bail?” the governor questioned, urging a reduction in the harsh bail conditions set for those accused.

After viewing footage of the detained teenagers—looking malnourished and dejected in court—Governor Mohammed called upon security agencies, the judiciary, and human rights organisations to advocate for the immediate release of the underage detainees.

He also called for a review of their bail terms, urging the need for a more humane approach to justice.

  • My Father Died In My Arms – Daughter Of Popular Nollywood Actor, Agbako Recounts His Last Moments

Agbako died on Thursday, October 31, at the age of 101, at his Oniboku residence in Atan-Ota, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State, and was buried on the same day in accordance with Islamic rites.

     Agbako

Motunrayo ‘Iwalewa’ Charles, the daughter of the late veteran Nollywood actor Abdulsalam Sanyaolu, popularly known as Charles Olumo or Agbako, has shared details of his final moments.

Recall that Agbako died on Thursday, October 31, at the age of 101, at his Oniboku residence in Atan-Ota, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State, and was buried on the same day in accordance with Islamic rites.

In an interview with Punch, Motunrayo said her father died at home in her arms, contrary to some reports that he passed away at a movie set.

She said, “He died in my arms. After I bathed him, I put him on a chair and brushed his teeth. I then gave him water to rinse his mouth and he went quiet. I took him to the bed, gave him the tea I prepared but it spilt as I was trying to feed him. I had never experienced anything like that (a person’s death) before. Then, I called for help. People are saying he died on set, but he died on his bed in my arms.”

Motunrayo also said that she had to abandon her acting career to care for her father in his old age, pleading with the government to do whatever it deems fit for the family.

She added, “The government should do whatever it deems fit for the family. But, they should understand that the person who took care of the old man, just like I did, won’t be able to do any other thing. I am also an actor but I did not go to any location for four years, because I had to take care of him. So, the family should be taken care of, and the person who cared for baba should also be well treated.”

The pool agent takes on several key responsibilities:

    1. Collecting Bets: At the heart of the operation, a pool agent collects the wagers from participants. This includes managing financial transactions and keeping meticulous records of each person’s contribution to the pool.

    2. Structuring the Pool: Defining the rules and structure of the football pool falls within the realm of the pool agent’s duties. This entails establishing how the pool operates, the scoring system, and any specific conditions relevant to the pool.

    3. Distributing Winnings: One of the most exhilarating aspects of any football pool is the opportunity to win. Here, the pool agent plays a vital role in ensuring that those who correctly predict game outcomes receive their winnings promptly and accurately.

    2. Upholding Fair Play: The integrity of the pool relies on the pool agent’s commitment to maintaining a level playing field. This means applying the rules consistently to all participants and ensuring there’s no room for favoritism or bias.

    5. Record-Keeping: Accurate and comprehensive record-keeping is a hallmark of a reliable pool agent. Every bet, every result, and every payout is meticulously documented. These records serve as the bedrock for transparency and conflict resolution.

A proficient pool agent comprehends the significance of their role in enhancing the overall experience for football pool enthusiasts. They bear the responsibility of ensuring that the pool functions seamlessly, transparently, and fairly. • CNG Price Skyrockets by Over 100% as Nigerians Struggle with Fuel Alternative

CNG Price Skyrockets by Over 100% as Nigerians Struggle with Fuel Alternative

In a significant development that has further strained Nigeria’s economic landscape, the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has soared to ₦455 per liter, up from its previous rate of ₦200 per liter.

This sharp rise comes amidst the Federal Government’s push for Nigerians to convert their vehicles to CNG as an alternative to petrol, which has also seen skyrocketing costs since the full removal of fuel subsidies earlier this year.

The price increase has sparked concerns among Nigerians, who are grappling with an already high cost of living.

Where to Convert Your Car to CNG in Nigeria: Full List of Nine Locations

Many are questioning the viability of CNG as a sustainable solution to the nation’s fuel crisis, as the recent surge challenges the government’s goal of reducing fuel costs by promoting alternatives to petrol.

What Economist and Analysts are Saying?

Economists and energy analysts have raised alarms, arguing that the price hike contradicts the government’s promise of affordability in switching to CNG. The intent was to create a cheaper fuel option for Nigerians, yet we are seeing prices soar,” commented energy analyst Ibrahim Adeyemi. “This trend could make it difficult for Nigerians to bear the cost of fuel conversions and negate the intended financial relief.”

The Federal Government had introduced incentives to encourage the use of CNG in a bid to lessen the impact of fuel subsidy removal, which caused a drastic spike in petrol prices and inflation. A government official emphasized that the transition to CNG was supposed to ease the economic pressure on citizens, but acknowledged that fluctuating CNG prices present a “new challenge.”

Many Nigerians have already expressed frustration at the high conversion costs, which range between ₦200,000 and ₦500,000 per vehicle. For commercial drivers, who rely on daily earnings, these conversion costs are almost unaffordable, and the additional burden of higher CNG prices has only intensified their financial woes.

Amid the backlash, some are calling for government intervention to stabilize CNG prices, arguing that without substantial support or regulation, the promise of affordable energy alternatives remains out of reach for most Nigerians.

Ejes Gist News understands that as the situation unfolds, the government faces pressure to reassess its energy strategy and provide clear solutions to ensure that the intended benefits of the CNG transition reach ordinary Nigerians without further compromising their economic well-being.

  • Again, DSS Denies Nnamdi Kanu Access To Legal Team

     Nnamdi Kanu

On Friday, November 1, the Department of State Services, DSS, stopped Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, from his legal team.

This was disclosed by Kanu’s Lead Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor via a post on X.

Ejimakor disclosed that DSS’s latest action was in continued disobedience to a court ruling ordering Kanu access to his legal team.

He vowed to continue all suspended legal processes with much vigour following the latest action.

Ejimakor wrote: “Today, in a blatant & continuing disobedience of extant court order, the DSS barred the Legal Team of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from conducting a visitation with him.

“For this reason, all suspended legal actions to enforce compliance will proceed apace and with much vigour.”

In October, the DSS had denied Kanu access to his lawyers.

Kanu has been locked up by the DSS since he was rearrested and subjected to extraordinary rendition in 2021.

Following this action, the Abuja Federal High Court threatened to jail DSS Director General, Adeola Ajayi for contempt.
