  • EFCC Chairman Orders Arrest Of Operatives Who Broke Into Hotel Rooms In Lagos

Mr Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has directed the arrest of two Commission officers seen in a viral video assaulting a female staff member at the Regional Hotel in Ojo, Lagos.

In a video circulating online, the EFCC officials, dressed in plain clothes, are seen entering a hotel room forcefully. The video shows an unidentified woman, believed to be a hotel employee, attempting to open the door from inside when the men barged in.  read here

One of the officers is seen slapping the woman before ordering her out of the room. This incident was recorded on Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).

In his statement, an EFCC spokesperson said the incident occurred during an early morning sting operation. He mentioned that the operation resulted in the arrest of several suspects who are currently being profiled.

    He said;

“The EFCC’s boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable.”

EFCC needs reform; chairman should be sacked Immediately, says Olayinka

…it is even so shameful that the chairman is a lawyer and pastor

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Lere Olayinka, has called for a total reform of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to meet global best practices in the corrupting fight, saying that the anti-corruption agency was operating like a gathering of Motor Park touts.

Olayinka, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, reacting to the invasion of a hotel in Lagos State at about 4 a.m. by armed operatives of the EFCC in which female staff and guests in the hotel were assaulted, called for the immediate sack of the commission’s chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

Update: I Was Paid ₦50,000 To Supply Ammunition To Bandits – Woman Confesses

Describing what the EFCC operatives did at the Regional Hotel, Lagos, as shameful, Olayinka lamented that “the way EFCC is going, one day, and very soon, its operatives will be mounting road blocks to stop commercial vehicles and arrest their passengers.”

He said either the EFCC Chairman is incompetent or he is complicit, adding that “Olukoyede, who announced to Nigerians on November 1, 2023, that he had banned sting operations at night, should be asked why operatives of the agency are still carrying out sting operations at night and assaulting innocent Nigerians in the process.

Video: How EFCC Operatives Forcefully Enter Rooms, Assault Guests, Hotel Staff, and Steal ATM Cards, Money, Phones Like Criminals

“Or is it at 4 a.m. that EFCC operatives invaded regional hotels in Isashi, Ojo, and Lagos State yesterday in the afternoon? 1:00 am that armed EFCC operatives invaded clubs and lounges in Akure, Ondo State, a few weeks ago was in the afternoon?

“It is becoming obvious that those in charge of the EFCC outside Abuja do not listen to Olukoyede, and it can only be a function of incompetence on his side. He should just be shown the exit doors before we witness another #EndSARS protest.”

While describing the arrest of the two operatives seen in the CCTV footage assaulting people at the hotel in Lagos State as an afterthought, Olayinka said, “If they were able to destroy CCTV cameras as they did in Akure, they would have defended their barbarism just as they defended the one they did in Akure.

“It is even so shameful that the chairman is a lawyer and pastor.”

Speaking on the need for the EFCC to stop being emotional and sentimental in carrying out its functions, the PDP chieftain said not all cases should be taken to court.

He said, “Imagine EFCC prosecuting one case for ten years, and at the end of the day, the case is dismissed. What will happen to the millions of naira spent by the EFCC to pay lawyers? Who will bear the costs incurred by the defendants? Isn’t it punishment for defendants to pay lawyers and go in and out of court for ten years?

“The question is, must the EFCC charge everyone to court, even when it is clear that the charges can’t be sustained? Or is the EFCC just doing this to find food for lawyers and its officials?”

He said in saner climes, anti-corruption agencies do their jobs quietly, adding that “no one fights corruption by invading bars, clubs, lounges, and student hostels at odd hours and standing on the roads to carry out random arrests. It is crude and primitive to arrest people randomly and clamp them in detention before finding out their culpability.”

Popular Nigerian actress, Sharon Ooja has opened up on how she met her husband, Ugo Nwoke.

The movie star made this known in an interview with Bella Naija, shared on Thursday, amidst their ongoing traditional wedding in Abuja.

She added that their romance spanned for two-and-a-half months, before culminating in a proposal.

She said; “My love story is one that I’ll say is short of a miracle. I had just recovered from what I considered the worst heartbreak of my life, and I was filming, and my sister had said to me a friend of hers wanted to speak to me and I was like I wasn’t in the mood.

“I didn’t want to talk to anybody. Anyway, she gives this person my number and he is really smart. I was like, who is this person, and we probably didn’t speak as much as we should.

“Months passed he kept on trying to reach me, and I was like, this guy is really persistent. We kept on having really cute conversations, and one day, there was just one conversation that struck me. We spoke for about three hours. I was like I think I like this guy.

“I travelled and realised that he hadn’t called me in like two days, I was like why didn’t uou call me, and he was like you told me you were going to go out and have fun and I was like yeah, I’m single and he was like I didn’t I want you to be single no more.

“We dated for literally two-and-a-half months, and I was engaged in the third month. And we married two months after there.”

The lady, Aisha Abubakar, who was arrested for delivering ammunition to bandits in Katsina State has revealed that she receives N50,000 per trip.

The 25-year-old lady from Kubwa, Abuja, was arrested by the Kaduna State Police Command along the Zaria-Kaduna highway on her way to Katsina State on 23 June 2024.

Speaking with journalists at the Police Command headquarters, where she was paraded alongside other suspected criminals on Thursday, Aisha denied knowing the contents of the fertilizer bag back given to her, saying she never opened it.

She said, “I was arrested by the police with ammunition. It was Wawo that first brought a bag of fertilizer to give to a commercial driver to take it to Katsina. The second trip I went there myself and delivered the item but I was arrested on my third trip to Dan Musa. I was paid N50,000 per trip.”

According to Dabigi, Aisha also mentioned two other suspects who had given her the items, and they had already been arrested in Abuja by the police.

EFCC Raid on Lagos Hotels Sparks Controversy Over Alleged Assaults and Misconduct.

In a startling development, officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) conducted a raid early this morning at Annex and Regional hotels located in Isashi, Ojo, Lagos. The hotels, owned by the same individual, were targeted in what was supposed to be a sting operation but quickly turned chaotic and controversial.

Reports from the scene allege that EFCC operatives forcefully entered rooms, assaulting guests and hotel staff, and indiscriminately stealing personal belongings including ATM cards, money, and phones. Witnesses further claim that shots were fired sporadically, resulting in injuries to innocent bystanders, while numerous individuals were reportedly arrested during the operation.

The incident has sparked outrage among the public, with some labeling Nigeria as a “Banana Republic” in response to the perceived heavy-handed tactics employed during the raid. A viral video circulating on social media captured the moment EFCC officers were seen manhandling a female staff member of Regional Hotel, prompting swift condemnation.

In response to the allegations, Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, has ordered the immediate arrest of two officers allegedly involved in the assault of the hotel staff. He acknowledged the existence of the viral video and pledged a thorough investigation into the entire operation. Olukoyede assured the public that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any personnel found to have violated protocols or engaged in misconduct during the raid.

Clarifying the circumstances surrounding the video footage, it was revealed that the room depicted in the CCTV footage belonged to hotel workers and staff, including the manager who was reportedly assaulted after being startled awake around 4:00 am. Similar treatment was allegedly meted out to several guests, both male and female, causing widespread distress and concern among those affected.

The management of the hotel explained that the surveillance cameras were installed in staff quarters to ensure compliance with hotel policies and to prevent unauthorized activities. These cameras do not cover private conveniences and are intended solely for security purposes.

In a commentary on the unfolding events, investigative journalist with the handle @PIDOMNIGERIA, known as 99% OPPRESSED on the X platform, expressed skepticism over potential official denials or attempts to discredit the video evidence. The journalist highlighted ongoing concerns about the fate of those unlawfully detained and emphasized the need for transparency in any subsequent EFCC statements or actions.

As the situation continues to develop, the EFCC faces mounting pressure to address the allegations decisively and restore public confidence in its operations. The fallout from this incident underscores broader concerns about law enforcement practices and accountability in Nigeria.

Tinubu’s Govt Set to Buy Luxury Airbus A330 Aircraft Seized From Arab Prince

The Nigerian Federal Government plans to acquire a repossessed Airbus A330 aircraft, previously owned by an Arab prince and businessman. The aircraft, with a luxurious VIP configuration, was seized by a German bank after the owner defaulted on a loan.

This aircraft, once collateral for a troubled oil sheikh’s loan, is now in the possession of L & L International LLC, an American aviation firm. It is valued at $600 million, but Nigeria has offered to pay “a little over $100 million” for it. The government is actively seeking funding for this purchase, and officials have remained discreet about the details.

Sources indicate that part of the funding will come from the N180 billion contingency fund included in the 2023 supplementary budget, which the National Assembly has extended to December 31.

An aviation expert mentioned that if L & L International accepts the offered amount, it would be an excellent deal for Nigeria, as the aircraft could be resold for two or three times the offered price.

AMAC Aerospace AG, a Swiss aviation company with a longstanding contract with Nigeria’s Presidential Air Fleet, is coordinating the purchase.

The company has recommended the aircraft due to its affordability and reliability. The government’s decision to purchase a new aircraft comes as some planes in the presidential fleet face airworthiness issues.

An official stated that the 2024 budget does not account for this aircraft purchase, as it was unforeseen. However, the deteriorating condition of the current presidential fleet necessitates at least one replacement to resolve this emergency. The House Committee on National Security and Intelligence recommended acquiring two aircraft for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima to ensure the safe transportation of top government officials.

Nonetheless, a senior aide to President Tinubu revealed that the government could only manage to purchase one aircraft at this time, emphasizing that they are securing a good second-hand aircraft at a favorable price.

  • 2027: El-Rufai Meets Kwankwaso After Visiting Buhari

The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, paid a visit to the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Thursday, June 27, at his Abuja residence.

This meeting follows closely after El-Rufai’s visit to former President, Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, which has fueled speculations about his current political alignments and intentions.

Despite being a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), El-Rufai’s recent interactions with figures from various opposition parties have caught the attention of political analysts and the public alike.

In March, El-Rufai also made headlines with his visit to the national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja, indicating a possible reevaluation of his political affiliations.

This comes after a setback earlier in the year when El-Rufai, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was overlooked for a ministerial position in President Bola Tinubu’s government, reportedly due to a failed security clearance by the Senate.

Following his exclusion from the ministerial list, El-Rufai had briefly moved abroad and stepped away from the political spotlight.

His return to Nigeria and subsequent resumption of public appearances, including the recent visit to the SDP’s national secretariat, have reignited discussions about his future role in Nigerian politics.

Commenting on these developments, Shehu Sani, a former Senator from Kaduna Central, suggested that El-Rufai’s visits, along with those of other northern politicians to Buhari, might be part of a broader strategy aimed at repositioning for the 2027 elections, possibly hinting at challenges to President Tinubu’s administration.

  • Ethiopia, UAE, Turkey Strip Nigerians of Visa-on-Arrival, e-Visa Privileges

Ethiopia, UAE, Turkey Strip Nigerians of Visa-on-Arrival, e-Visa Privileges

In a significant policy shift, Ethiopia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have revoked the visa-on-arrival and e-visa privileges previously granted to Nigerian passport holders. This development presents a considerable obstacle for Nigerians, who once experienced relatively seamless travel to these countries.

Turkey has discontinued the issuance of e-visas to Nigerians, disrupting what was previously a straightforward process for travelers. Similarly, the UAE imposed a ban in 2022, barring Nigerians and citizens of select African nations from entering Dubai. Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts by the Nigerian government to reverse this decision, the ban remains effective. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo had earlier assured that the UAE would lift the ban by October, yet its implementation is still uncertain.

Ethiopia ceased visa-on-arrival services for Nigerians two years ago and has not reinstated them since. Airlines have advised passengers since 2022 to obtain visas from the Ethiopian embassy in Abuja prior to traveling.

Bolanle Olukanni, daughter of former Nigerian Ambassador Ayoola Olukanni, recently took to social media to express her frustration over the visa denial her parents faced, highlighting the broader challenges encountered by Nigerians. Despite her father’s 30-year service in the Foreign Service, including a tenure in Austria, his visa application alongside his wife’s was rejected due to concerns about their return.

This visa issue extends beyond these three countries. Many Nigerians seeking entry to South Africa have reported delays and denials. According to data from the US Department of State, the number of study visas issued to Nigerians in 2023 dropped for the first time in three years, with South Africa issuing 7,466 nonimmigrant (F-1) visas, down from 7,547 in 2022.

Oritseweyinmi Oritsejafor of Henley & Partners underscored the broader implications of these restrictions. Nigerian passport holders can access only 45 destinations visa-free, limiting their global mobility to just 1.5 percent of the world’s economic landscape. This restriction significantly impacts the 8,200 millionaires residing in Nigeria, who must navigate complex foreign policy barriers to access global economic opportunities.

The Henley Passport Index, which ranks passports based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Henley & Partners’ research, placed Nigeria among the 20 worst passports to hold in 2023, with visa-free access to only 46 countries. In contrast, countries like Singapore, which now holds the world’s most powerful passport, offer much broader access.

Bankole Bernard, Group Managing Director of Finchglow Holdings, attributes the high visa rejection rates to inadequate documentation by applicants, emphasizing the importance of proper documentation. Former National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) president Susan Akporaiye added that while Nigerian passports are weak, many Nigerians still thrive abroad. She called for more robust engagement by the foreign affairs ministry to reduce visa denials, stressing the need for applicants to follow proper procedures.

    Factors Influencing Black Market Rates

Understanding the factors that influence the dollar to naira exchange rate in the black market can help anticipate changes and make better financial decisions.

    Economic Policies

Government policies significantly impact exchange rates. Decisions on interest rates, inflation control, and foreign exchange regulations by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directly affect the naira’s value. For instance, when the CBN adjusts policies to manage inflation or stabilize the naira, it impacts the exchange rate.

    Supply and Demand

The availability of foreign currency versus the demand for it plays a crucial role. When foreign currency is scarce or demand is high, the naira depreciates, leading to higher exchange rates. Conversely, an abundant supply of dollars can lead to lower rates.

    Political Stability

Geopolitical events and internal political stability affect investor confidence. Political unrest or uncertainty can cause the naira to depreciate as investors move towards safer assets. Stability and positive political developments, on the other hand, can strengthen the naira.

    Global Economic Conditions

Global market conditions, such as shifts in oil prices (a major export for Nigeria), international economic trends, and global inflation rates, influence the naira’s value. For example, a significant drop in oil prices can negatively impact Nigeria’s economy and the naira.

Comparing Official and Black Market Rates

There is a significant disparity between official and black market rates. The black market offers higher rates, but with substantial risks such as fraud and legal issues. The CBN advises using official channels to avoid these risks. Official rates are stable and reliable, making them suitable for the majority of transactions.

These platforms have gained popularity due to their ease of use, transparency, and security, making them viable alternatives to traditional methods.

Why the Disparity Between Official and Black Market Rates?

The disparity between the official CBN rates and the black market rates is influenced by several factors:

    1. Supply and Demand: The availability of foreign currency in the official market is often limited, leading individuals and businesses to seek forex in the black market where demand drives up prices.
    2. Regulatory Restrictions: The CBN imposes restrictions on the amount of forex available for personal and business use, making it difficult for many to meet their needs through official channels.
    3. Economic Instability: Fluctuations in oil prices, inflation, and economic policies can create uncertainty, prompting people to turn to the parallel market for more favorable rates.

Impact of Black Market Rates on the Economy

The high exchange rates in the black market can have various implications for the Nigerian economy:

    • Inflation: Higher costs for imported goods can drive up prices locally, contributing to inflation.
    • Investment: Unfavorable exchange rates can deter foreign investment as investors seek more stable economic environments.
    • Trade: Exporters may benefit from higher naira values per dollar, while importers face increased costs, potentially leading to trade imbalances.

How to use the parallel market

For those needing to engage in forex transactions through the black market, safety and caution are paramount. Here are some tips:

    1. Verify Rates: Always check the latest rates from reliable sources like Aboki FX to ensure you get the best deal.
    2. Deal with Reputable Dealers: Engage with well-known and trusted Bureau De Change operators to avoid scams.
    3. Stay Informed: Keep abreast of economic news and CBN policies that could affect exchange rates.

  • CSP Egbeyemi Removed As RRS Commander

Yinka Egbeyemi, the Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), has been removed as Commander of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

Egbeyemi, who assumed the role of RRS Commander in December 2020, is now attached to the force command.

The former head of the Lagos Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, has been assigned to lead the RRS in place of Egbeyemi.

It was revealed that Egbeyemi is now attached to the administrative department of the Lagos State Police Command.

This repositioning followed his tenure of over three years as the head of RRS.

Egbeyemi is scheduled to formally hand over to Jejeloye on Friday, who will take on the role of the new RRS boss.

In addition to the latest reshuffling, CSP Adetayo Akerele has been designated as the new Chairman of the Lagos Environmental and Special Offenses Unit (Taskforce), having previously served as the BRT Lane Monitoring and Enforcement Commander.

Under Egbeyemi’s stewardship, the unit has been consistently engaged in the enforcement of traffic laws, particularly in the impounding of vehicles that contravene traffic regulations, a duty that is squarely within the purview of the Taskforce.

Also the unit confiscated motorcycles (okadas) and took them to the RRS office, activities that are not explicitly outlined in their mandate.

Jejeloye’s tenure as Chairman of the Taskforce saw a notable increase in the number of okada riders apprehended, with a significant number of their motorcycles being destroyed.

  • FG Spent N1 Billion On Tinubu’s Trip To Ethiopia, N650 Million On Honorarium

A new report has revealed that President Bola Tinubu’s trip to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the African Union summit came with a hefty price tag of N1.041 billion.

The report by Sahara Reporters frowned at the excessive spending by the Tinubu government.

The trip was made in February 2024.

Records show that on February 9, 2024, $692,265 was purchased with over N1.041 billion “for Mr President’s trip to Ethiopia”.

This development comes amid calls for a reduction in the cost of governance.

In a related development, between February 24 and March 15, 2024, the Presidency recorded N650 million for “presidential honorarium and transportation”.

This means that in 21 days, the Presidential honorarium cost the country N650 million.

An honorarium is a payment made as a gesture of appreciation for services rendered, where no fee is legally or customarily expected. It’s a voluntary expression of gratitude, rather than a mandatory compensation.

In January 2024, it was reported that the President cut his travel delegations by 60 percent to reduce the cost of governance, so it remains unclear how much the country would have incurred for the Ethiopian trip assuming that the delegation had not been reduced by 40 percent.

SaharaReporters earlier noted how the administration of Tinubu spent N473 million on the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s to Mozambique, United Kingdom and Ethiopia.

The country’s low revenue generation has sparked widespread concern and scrutiny, with many calling for improved fiscal management and strategies to boost economic growth.

The organised labour recently demanded an increase in the minimum wage, a development that has continued to trigger disagreements in the country with the government saying it is unable to pay due to paucity of funds.

SaharaReporters has exposed the Tinubu administration’s non-compliance with legal requirements by failing to publish quarterly budget performance reports, thereby denying citizens the right to access crucial information on government expenditures and undermining transparency and accountability in public financial management.

Court Delivers Landmark Judgment in Labour Party vs INEC Ahead of Edo 2024

The Court Has Handed Down a Landmark Ruling in the Labour Party’s Case Against INEC.

In a pivotal judgment handed down by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, June 27, 2024, Alhaji Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri SAN was confirmed as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party for the forthcoming Edo State gubernatorial election, set for September 21, 2024.

The case, identified as Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/556/2024, was filed by the Labour Party alongside three others against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court ruled that the nomination process for Alhaji Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri SAN complied meticulously with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, and subsidiary guidelines, as well as the Labour Party’s constitution.

The judge highlighted that the Labour Party had “over-complied” with all pertinent legal and regulatory frameworks in nominating Alhaji Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri SAN.

As a result, the court directed INEC to accept and process the substitution of Kadiri as the Labour Party’s Deputy Governorship candidate and to publish his name on the list of candidates for the upcoming election.

This ruling marks a crucial development in the preparations for the Edo State gubernatorial election, ensuring the Labour Party’s candidates are duly recognized and can actively participate in the electoral process.

Fubara Govt Reveals the Identity of Wike Supporter Behind Port Harcourt Explosion

Rivers Government Reveals Identity of Suspect Behind Port Harcourt Explosion

The Rivers State Government has identified the suspect responsible for the explosion in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. Josiah Preye, a university graduate and resident of Port Harcourt, has been named as the individual behind the incident, Ejes Gist Naija News reports.

In a statement by Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sim Fubara, Preye is described as a supporter of Minister Nyesom Wike. Preye participated in a solidarity walk on Tuesday in support of the minister.

The statement further alleges that Preye was part of a broader scheme to incite chaos and anarchy in the state, orchestrated by loyalists of Nyesom Wike.

Fubara Speaks on Dumping PDP as APC Senator Visits Rivers Govt House

The government released a 50-second video showing Preye participating in the walk and another video of him in the intensive care unit of a medical facility. Preye, a graduate of Imo State University, Owerri, and an employee of Sky Packing Materials Trd: LLC, is currently recovering from injuries sustained during the failed bombing attempt, the statement added.

    The full statement reads:

BUSTED: ASSOCIATES OF RIVERS FAILED BOMBER, JOSIAH PREYE

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, ardent loyalists of the former Governor of Rivers State and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, entered Day 2 of their so-called pro-police protest to press home a smokescreen of the veiled narrative that they support the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) decision to barricade and deny staff and officials of the third tier of government in the 23 local government areas access to their offices to perform their constitutional duties and advance democracy in the state and country.

FCCPC Urges Retailers To Promote Fair Business Practices, Price Transparency

The narrative was anchored on their agitation for tenure elongation by six months for the former elected local government chairmen and councillors, whose statutory three-year term had expired at midnight of June 17, 2024, and therefore, constitutionally barred from continuing to serve in that capacity, except their mandates are renewed through a fresh election, and are sworn-in again after taking a new oath of office administered by appropriate judicial officer.

But for a group, which claimed that they were on the side of the law, and embarking on ‘peaceful’ protest in support of law enforcement agents, to hire, empower and embolden thugs, suicide bombers, cultists, anarchists, and all manner of criminals, does not add up.

This is Josiah Preye, hired together with other thugs, cultists, anarchists, and violent extremists, all sponsored by the likes of former Speaker, state House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; member representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, former Obio/Akpor Local Government Council chairman, Barrister George Ariolu; Chief of Staff to FCT Minister, Chidi Amadi; President General of GDI, Bright Amaewhule; Timothy alias General Whosky; among others; who are all core unrepentant loyalists of Nyesom Wike.

Josiah Preye was part of the protest on Monday – Day 1 of the protest – and on Day 2, he is seen in this video carrying improvised explosive device, with specific instructions on how to use, where and when to detonate the device.

He is one, among others, in the crowd paid by the sponsors of the evil protest to cause anarchy and chaos in the state with the major aim of justifying their call for a state of emergency in Rivers State, so that they can usurp power from the back door, since they know that Rivers people have rejected them in their various positions.

Again, their ploy was to create pandemonium with the explosive device while they matched the streets to demand for tenure elongation for local government chairmen who had served out their statutory three-year tenure.

They chose near Hotel Presidential on the very busy Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway, where some Senators and House of Representatives committee members on oversight functions in the State were lodging, to detonate the device but it failed. Nemesis rather caught up with Josiah Preye, and the explosive devise caused severe harm and injuries to the hunter – Josiah Preye. The hunter is now the hunted, Josiah Preye is now battling with karma, and the God who sees the hearts of the wicked and unleashes vengeance against their evil plots, is fighting for the innocents and real law-abiding citizens and liberated residents of the state.

Their plan to get reason to support their call for a state of emergency and scuttle the God-ordained administration currently providing good governance and dividends of democracy to the people of the State, failed woefully.

And by the special grace of God, they will continue to fail and falter.

Security agencies should act now, and bring all those involved in the failed bombing in Port Harcourt to face justice.

Josiah Preye is a graduate of Imo State University, Owerri; works at Sky Packing Materials Trd: LLC, and lives in Port Harcourt.

Senate Won’t Let Tinubu Die Like Malawian, Iranian Presidents – Akpabio Speaks on Presidential Jet

Abuja: In an urgent Senate session on Thursday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio assured that the Upper Chamber would not allow President Bola Tinubu to meet the same tragic fate as the late presidents of Malawi and Iran, who perished in aircraft crashes. Akpabio emphasised that the Senate is ready to ensure the safety of the Nigerian President at all costs.

The session was called to address the extension of the implementation period for the N21.83 trillion 2023 budget’s capital component and the N2.17 trillion 2023 supplementary budget.

Toyin Kolade Biography, Net Worth, Husband, Age, Wiki, Parents, Instagram,

Akpabio clarified that the Senate had not yet received any request to approve the purchase of a new presidential jet but promised that any future request would be carefully considered.

He said, “The necessity for a new presidential jet has become urgent due to the deteriorating condition of the current aircraft in the Presidential Air Fleet.”

President Tinubu has resorted to using chartered aircraft for official duties. He used chartered aircraft for his trip to South Africa for President Cyril Ramaphosa’s inauguration.

Vice President Kashim Shettima had to cancel a trip to the United States at the last minute due to issues with his official aircraft.

The Senate’s discussion reflects growing concerns over the safety and reliability of the nation’s presidential transport, highlighting the importance of safeguarding the lives of Nigeria’s top leaders.

  • FCCPC Urges Retailers To Promote Fair Business Practices, Price Transparency

FCCPC Urges Retailers To Promote Fair Business Practices, Price Transparency

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, has urged organisations dedicated to consumer welfare and business-to-customer relationships to promote fair business practices.

The Executive Secretary of FCCPC, Dr Adamu Abdullahi, made the appeal during an engagement between the commission and the National Association of Supermarket Operators of Nigeria and Retail Council of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos.

Abdullahi noted that the commission had identified concerns in the retail sector, especially regarding the inconsistent display of prices, which had led to discrepancies between shelf prices and the final amount charged at the till.

To address this, the executive vice chairman urged supermarkets to maintain price transparency and consistency, recognising that trust and market integrity hinge on this critical aspect.

He explained that, while the FCCPC does not regulate prices, it has a mandate to promote fair competition and discourage price gouging and unfair pricing practices.

Abdullahi said: “We don’t control prices. But we ensure that there is a level playing field so that the market is open and people can come in, display their wares, and sell at their own prices.

“The price dictates whether you sell your products or not, as far as we’re concerned.

“We feel that it’s only fair that if the government is trying its very best to bring down the Naira exchange value, then those efforts should also be rewarded by retailers by bringing down the cost of items.”

By upholding consumer rights and fostering a competitive marketplace, the FCCPC boss added that the commission aimed to create a conducive environment for both businesses and consumers to thrive.

According to him, the commission is dedicated to enforcing compliance with the law, particularly the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Act, to eradicate deceptive and misleading marketing practices that undermine competition.
