Buhari wants APC to lose presidential election – Ganduje Opens Up

Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has come hard on President Muhammadu Buhari for refusing to abide by the Supreme Court order and going ahead with the ban on the old Naira notes.

In an audio recording, Ganduje was quoted in vernacular asking, that, “President Buhari should remember that for several times he was trying to contest Presidency but he couldn’t make it until there was an alliance, but now after enjoying everything, he turned back against the same democratic system that saw him to office”.

He said, “the President should remember that this is a democratic setting that allows popular voice and leaders to listen to advice and adhere strictly to those advice.

“I wonder why the President is hellbent in making the same Party that helped him to win elections lose out, what did we do to him that he is this ignorant on several advice forwarded to him”.

“This same Buhari he contested again and again but he couldn’t win not until there was an alliance, now he wins and win again for the second term, but now that he is living, he wants to cripple the same Party that brought him to power why?

“This Currency Swap Policy, why didn’t the President bring it seven and a half years ago or after elections, but now one must be compelled to think that there is an ulterior motive in the whole thing.”

A week before the presidential election, the Allied Peoples Movement collapsed all of its structures in support of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, on Friday.

Yusuf Dantalle, the national chairman of APM, disclosed this at a press conference held Thursday evening in Abuja.

According to him, the decision was made after a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee to discuss crucial national issues, including the upcoming presidential election.

The adoption of Atiku would prevent the APM from supporting its presidential candidate, Princess Chichi Ojei.

Ojei, a prominent politician from Delta state, is the sole female presidential candidate in the February 25 election.

Dantalle stated that the decision was made after the party evaluated the democratic credentials of Atiku and his running mate, Okowa, and determined that it was in the national interest to nominate them for president and vice president in the upcoming election.

While describing the former vice president as the best and only presidential candidate capable of rescuing Nigeria, he stated that the country required a competent, experienced, visionary, resourceful, and dynamic leader to resolve its numerous challenges and chart a new course for the country over the next four years.

Dantalle stated, “The APM has faith in the leadership of Atiku-Okowa and will dismantle its national structures to campaign for their presidential ticket.

Ortom was listed as the plaintiff/applicant, while the PDP and INEC were listed as the first and second defendants/respondents.

Among the reliefs Ortom requested and was granted was a restraining order prohibiting the PDP from expelling, suspending, or otherwise punishing him pending the outcome of the Motion on Notice for interlocutory injunction.

The court also enjoined the PDP from seeking to disqualify the governor of Benue State from contesting or from being placed on the ballot for the February 25 National Assembly election, in which he is running on the party’s platform for the Benue North West senatorial district.

Ortom caused high-level confusion among PDP ranks when he announced Peter Obi as his preferred 2023 presidential candidate.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has ended weeks of speculation by publicly endorsing Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

Bad weather prevented Obi from flying to Makurdi for a townhall meeting organised by the Inter-Party Advisory Council in support of Obi-presidential Datti’s ambition.

But Ortom made a physical appearance at the gathering held at the Royal Choice Inn in Makurdi, where he praised the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, whom he described as one of the top three candidates and an outstanding candidate who will be able to eradicate insecurity and unite the country.

He stated that Obi’s candidature came at a time when Nigerians must set aside their emotions and save the country by looking for leaders who fear God and can provide gainful employment for the youth.

Therefore, the governor urged Nigerians not to vote along party lines, but rather to consider individuals with credentials, character, competence, and educational backgrounds who are capable of delivering and reviving the country’s socioeconomic fortunes.

Ortom also stated that the people must create a new Nigeria that provides citizens with equity, fairness, and justice, and he emphasised the need for the people to reject all partisan sentiment because the nation’s major political parties have failed.

He added that Obi was superior to other candidates, such as Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in terms of age, capacity, and others.

Old Notes: Buhari’s Aide accuses two APC governors of stealing public funds

The presidency has accused two APC governors of stealing public funds.

Ejes Gist News reports that the presidential aide claimed both Governor El-Rufai and Ganduje are only angry because the money they have stolen and stashed are now worthless.

Read Also Details emerge why US denied visas to 7 Supreme Court justices who declared Uzodimma 3rd runner-up winner

Bashir Ahmad, the Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital Communications, has lambasted Governors Nasir El-Rufai and Abdullahi Ganduje for their angry outbursts over the decision of the regime and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to phase out old naira notes.

In a series of social media posts on Thursday, the presidential aide claimed both Governor El-Rufai and Ganduje are only angry because the money they have stolen and stashed are now worthless due to the regime’s stance that the old notes are no longer tenderable despite Supreme Court judgment temporarily stopping the plan.

Both governors have both filed a motion for their states, Kaduna and Kano, to be joined to an open suit brought by some other states in the country before the Supreme Court suit seeking to stop the regime from going forward with the plan.

The presidential media aide also dared both governors to directly deposit the alleged stashed money they are claiming were legally gotten to CBN and Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the legality of the money.

“They have stashed money and now they’re useless,” Mr Ahmad said in the series of posts.

He added: “That’s the reason for all the fuming. Ganduje and co don’t care about the masses. If the money Ganduje and friends are shouting about is legit, why don’t they deposit it to CBN, the EFCC and NFIU will wait for them to verify.”

Mr Ahmad’s words were in response to Messrs El-Rufai and Ganduje’s constant criticism of the regime’s plan to render the old N200, N500, N1000 notes an illegal tender ahead of the February 25 presidential election, with many speculating the policy was put to punish some candidates during the poll.

They have also ordered residents in their states to continue carrying out their day-to-day transactions with the old notes and even Mr Ganduje had threatened businesses in Kano, including commercial banks, with government sanctions if they refused to accept the currency.

On Thursday, Mr Buhari ordered the CBN to begin releasing only the old N200 note into circulation with the new one for next 60 days while reaffirming that the higher notes, N500 and N1000 are now illegal tender, a move that many including House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila characterized as “disregard” for rule of law.

  • Details emerge why US denied visas to 7 Supreme Court justices who declared Uzodimma 3rd runner-up winner

The names of seven Supreme Court justices denied visas by the USA have been highlighted here.

Donald Duke, the former governor of Cross River State, stated that the seven Supreme Court Justices who rendered the ruling that made Hope Uzodinma as governor of Imo State were recently denied visas to attend a judges’ conference in the United States.

He made this claim at the launch of Justice Charles Archibong’s memoir, which was titled “A Stranger in Their Midst.”

Duke stated that the United States Embassy in Nigeria took the action in light of the miscarriage of justice in the case, and he also claimed that all the aides who applied alongside the justices were granted US visas.

Ejes Gist News recalls the apex court’s unanimous ruling, read by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, that results from 388 polling units were unlawfully excluded from the final tally of the governorship election in Imo State.

Justice Tanko Muhammad, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Justice Nwali Sylvester Ngwuta, Justice Amiru Sanusi, Justice Amina Augie, and Justice Uwanimusi Abba Aji are the other justices on the panel.

Duke, delivering the keynote address at the event, stated, “In addition to the recent cases, there is another one in which number four became number one. The justices who rendered that decision cannot travel to the United States today because their visas have been denied.

“They desire to attend a retreat. Their assistants were granted visas, but they were not. How much disgrace can we as a nation endure before we say enough?

“I am certain that this current group will also be denied visas, as it is absurd that you did not participate in a process, but they found a way to dismiss the case procedurally,” he said.

Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), described the National Judicial Council (NJC) as a toothless bulldog at the event.

The fact that the NJC is controlled by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, who appoints 50 of its 60 members, according to Agbakoba, renders the council inefficient and ineffective.

He stated that the majority of judicial officers in the country fear the executive and its agencies because they are poorly compensated and their retirement benefits are unremarkable.

The senior attorney stated, “Judicial employment conditions are appalling. It indicates that they can be managed. Those who do not wish to relax and keep their heads down are foreigners among them.

Agbakoba stated, “We should not put our judges in a position where they can be tempted.”

Abdul Oroh, a former member of the House of Representatives who served on the House Judiciary Committee, shared his own perspective.

According to him, the top tier of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) are to blame for judges’ corruption.

The 228-page autobiography ‘A Stranger in Their Midst’ focuses on the judicial career of Mr. Justice Charles Archibong at the Federal High Court in multiple locations across the nation.

From 2002 to 2013, Justice Archibong sat on the bench of the Federal High Court.

The book describes the cases that Justice Archibong presided over during his time as a federal judge. His approach to adjudication was marked by a strong preference for the swift conclusion of proceedings before him.

The cases included the kidnapping of a sitting state governor, the recall of the vice president of the senate, the trial of members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), the filing of a claim against federal authorities over the publication of an air accident report, and disputes between oil magnates and communications tycoons and their creditors.

“The situation reaches its climax when Justice Archibong clashes with senior lawyers hired by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to conduct a major criminal trial, and when he is caught in the crossfire of feuding political heavyweights vying for control of party-political structures. These conflicts will result in an untimely end to his judicial career,” Duke said.

“The Jigawa State Government is concerned about the behaviour of these individuals and organisations.

“As a law-abiding government, Jigawa State is among the State Governments with cases pending before the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The court has issued an order prohibiting the Federal Government of Nigeria, either by itself or acting through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and/or commercial banks, ministries, parastatals, organisations or through any person or persons (natural and artificial) howsoever, from suspending or determining or ending on February 10, 2023 the time frame within which the now older versions of the 200, 500, and 1000 naira denominations may no longer be legal tender.

“The Jigawa State Government respects the rights of its citizens, and those who reject the now-defunct currencies are urged to cease disobeying the law and causing hardship for the Jigawa State citizens. Jigawa State Government will not hesitate to enforce the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s order using section 287(1) of the Constitution (as amended) and other existing laws.

“For clarity, the section states, “The decisions of the Supreme Court shall be enforced in any part of the Federation by all authorities and persons, as well as by subordinate courts.” People are advised to report to the nearest authorities any merchants or businesses that refuse to accept the obsolete N200, N500, and N1000 notes as legal tender in Jigawa State.”

Interesting things you didn’t know about the U.S. dollar

You know that our money is the United States dollar. Did you know…

-There are three parts to a dollar: the penny, the nickel, and the dime. There are 100 cents in a dollar.

-The first dollar was made in 1792. It was used in the colonies instead of the Spanish dollar, which was used before.

-The dollar is the currency that is traded the most around the world.

-The dollar is also the currency that is most often faked around the world.

The US Dollar: A Brief History

Did you know that the history of the US dollar is pretty interesting? It was made when the Coinage Act was passed by the US government in 1792. This law made the US dollar the official currency of the country.

Since then, there have been a few changes to the dollar. For example, in 1854, the US stopped using Spanish coins and started using American ones. And in 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt took the US off the gold standard. This meant that the dollar could no longer be traded for gold.

The US dollar is one of the most popular currencies in the world right now. Over 60% of all transactions between countries take place in US dollars. So the next time you spend your vacation dollars in a foreign country, you can be sure that you are using a currency that has been around for a while!

Who Maintains the Production of US Currency?

The United States Mint is responsible for producing US dollar paper currency. It is a government agency that falls under the Treasury Department. They are responsible for producing both paper currency and coins.

Interestingly, each bill and coin’s design is determined by the president. The Mint then creates a prototype and submits it for approval to the Treasury. It is then put into production. Therefore, each bill and coin in circulation has been authorised by the president, which is why they often bear his or her image.

What are the Facts Influencing the Dollar to Naira Black Market Exchange rate for today ?

Here are some of the reasons for the dollar-to-naira exchange rate’s decline.

Inflation Rates: It is common knowledge that inflation has a direct impact on black market exchange rates. The naira will benefit if the Nigerian economy can be stabilised and inflation is brought under control; however, if the naira continues to fall, it may indicate that food and other necessities are becoming more expensive on a daily basis.

Interest Rates: Interest rates are another tool to keep an eye on. If the interest rate at which banks lend money rises, the economy will contract, and the value of the naira will fall as a result.

Government debt has the potential to affect investor confidence and, as a result, the flow of funds into the economy. If inflows are high, the naira exchange rate will rise in its favour.

Speculators: Speculators have a significant impact on the Dollar to Naira Black Market Exchange rate for today . They hoard money in anticipation of a profit, causing the naira to fall even further.

Trade Conditions: Although Nigeria is currently running a trade deficit, favourable trade terms will lead to an increase in the value of the Nigerian currency to the dollar. China, India, and the majority of Asian countries supply everything.

Naira crisis: Bank workers peg losses at N5bn, threaten to withdraw services over attacks.

Oluwole Olusoji, the president of the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance, and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI), estimated on Thursday that banks lost N5 billion due to attacks by naira scarcity protesters.

At a news conference in Lagos, Olusoji stated that several buildings and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) were destroyed by the protesters.

Many bank employees suffered personal losses as a result of the attacks, he added.

If the attacks persist in the coming days, the workers may be compelled to withdraw their services, he said.

Since last week, seventeen bank branches across Nigeria have been attacked, according to the president of ASSBIFI, who urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to make more naira notes available to the lenders.

Olusoji stated, “Despite the insecurity caused by the destruction of business premises in the banking industry and its effect on insurance companies, we remain committed to going above and beyond to provide service to our customers in safe and secure environments.

“However, we value the lives of our members and coworkers and will not place them in any additional danger. We have therefore placed them on high alert and will instruct them without further notice to immediately stay away from their branches if these attacks on our members and facilities continue until the relevant authorities can guarantee their safety and the security of their workplaces.

“We implore the general public to refrain from threatening or attacking our members or destroying our property, as they would be cutting off their noses to spite their faces.” We cannot give more than what we have received.”

New naira notes: Buhari not interested in what is going on at the Supreme Court, has overruled Supreme Court ruling, says Ubani

Dr. Monday Ubani, a human rights attorney, claims that President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to reinstate the old N200 notes into circulation in Nigeria is a rejection of the Supreme Court’s determination that the old notes continue to be accepted as lawful cash.

In a speech on Thursday, the President commanded the CBN to continue printing the old N200 notes till April 10 while discontinuing the acceptance of the old N500 and N1000 notes by deposit money banks.

Ubani, who spoke with our correspondent, argued that the action set a dangerous precedent and revealed how little respect the present administration had for court judgments.

    He said,

“There was an interim order which says there should be a stay of action until all grievances are looked at because unfortunately many other states are joining the suit, and the Supreme Court saw the wisdom in giving room for other parties to join so that there will proper parties before it before going ahead to look at the issues on its merit, that was why there was an adjournment yesterday.

“When you say you will only allow old N200 to be in circulation, it means old N500 and N1000 are no longer legal tenders.

“My own understanding of what has taken place is that he has overruled the Supreme Court. He’s clearly not mindful of what is going on at the Supreme Court with what he has just done.

“I am not too happy with what has happened this morning in terms of the president overruling the Supreme Court. We are not telling the world that we are practicing democracy. It is not a proper precedent.

Currency Redesign: El-Rufai has dropped another shocking revelation

The Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has revealed the offers made to States Governors by some officials of the Federal Government over the dispute on the currency redesign of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

He also said contrary to reports, there was no meeting between the Governors and officials of the Federal Government.

These were revealed in a statement issued on Wednesday night by Muyiwa Adekeye, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communications.

The statement reads: “A few hours after the Supreme Court adjourned the ‘currency redesign’ case today, The Cable, a respected publication, published what it described as an exclusive story regarding the intentions of the Federal Government on the matter.

“Malam Nasir El-Rufai would like to clarify that The Cable has been misled by its sources on this issue. There has been no meeting this week between the FG and either the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) or the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), not to talk of one lasting till the wee hours of today, Wednesday, 15 February 2023.

Cabal in the presidency planning interim government — El-Rufai raises fresh alarm

“Rather, senior officials of the FG reached some governors, including Malam Nasir El-Rufai, on phone to initiate discussions on a possible out of court settlement. The terms they proposed were to allow only the old N200 note to remain legal tender and be circulated by the CBN till 10 April 2023. They claimed that the CBN had already destroyed the old N500 and N1000 notes that had been deposited, but that those persons who still held the old notes could redeem them up to 10 April 2023.

“These were not considered as serious proposals, for obvious reasons. Circulating the old N200 notes alone would not be sufficient to relieve widespread human suffering in Kaduna State, and indeed in Nigeria today. They knew that and that is why they falsely claimed that the CBN had already destroyed the old N500 and N1000 notes. This is contrary to the fact available to the governors to the effect that the old notes were in the custody of commercial bank branches throughout Nigeria until the evening of Monday, February 13, and not a single N500 or N1000 had been destroyed.

“It is also a non-starter to insist on a new cut off date without first assuring that sufficient new notes would have been printed and circulated. Information available to the governors also indicate that the Mint will need at least 12 months to print the minimum amount of N1 trillion needed to ensure a functioning trade and exchange environment in Nigeria.

“The tabling of false facts, inadequate solutions to the sufferings of our people, and the bad faith that some of the FG negotiators displayed in our phone conversations and chats have now been taken further in leaking a false account and context to a respected medium. The plaintiff governors rejected the draft proposal as insincere, and invested our hopes in the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

“Malam Nasir El-Rufai will be addressing the people of Kaduna State on this currency redesign mess, the consequences of the extension of the injunction of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and related matters tomorrow. But the Kaduna State Government feels it is important tonight not to allow an exclusive falsehood to stand, or even gain the slightest traction. This statement is therefore issued to put the records straight.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to intensify collaboration with anti-corruption agencies in checking the activities of those bent on frustrating the smooth implementation of the currency redesign policy.

He gave the directive while addressing Nigerians on the CBN currency swap policy and State of the Nation.

Buhari, who spoke on Thursday in Abuja, called on the apex bank to ensure that any institution or person(s) found to have impeded or sabotaged the implementation should be made to bear the full weight of the law.

The President said: “I am not unaware of the obstacles placed on the path of innocent Nigerians by unscrupulous officials in the banking industry, entrusted with the process of implementation of the new monetary policy.

I am deeply pained and sincerely sympathise with you all over these unintended outcomes.

“To stem this tide, I have directed the CBN to deploy all legitimate resources and legal means to ensure that our citizens are adequately educated on the policy; enjoy easy access to cash withdrawal through availability of appropriate amount of currency; and ability to make deposits.

“I have similarly directed that the CBN should intensify collaboration with anti-corruption agencies, so as to ensure that any institution or person(s) found to have impeded or sabotaged the implementation should be made to bear the full weight of the law.”

The Nigerian leader maintained that during the extended phase of the deadline for currency swap, he listened to invaluable pieces of advice from well-meaning citizens and institutions across the nation.

Buhari said: “Considering the health of our economy and the legacy we must bequeath to the next administration and future generations of Nigerians, I admonish every citizen to strive harder to make their deposits by taking advantage of the platforms and windows being provided by the CBN.

Let me assure Nigerians that our administration will continue to assess the implementation with a view to ensuring that Nigerians are not unnecessarily burdened.

“In this regard, the CBN shall ensure that new notes become more available and accessible to our citizens through the banks.

“I wish to once more appeal for your understanding till we overcome this difficult transient phase within the shortest possible time.”

On the forthcoming February 25 presidential election, the President affirmed that the new monetary policy had also contributed immensely to the minimisation of the influence of money in politics.

According to Buhari, this is a positive departure from the past and represents a bold legacy step by this administration towards laying a strong foundation for free and fair elections.
