WAEC announces Introduction of Computer-Based Tests for Exams

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is in the advanced stages of introducing the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode for the administration of its examinations, according to the Head of National Office (HNO), Patrick Areghan.

Mr. Areghan, who is set to complete his three-year tenure on October 1, revealed this in an interview with reporters. He discussed the achievements and advancements made by the council during his tenure.

Mr. Areghan emphasized that introducing CBT examinations had been part of his vision for the council’s future. He acknowledged that while this transition was underway, certain challenges needed to be addressed.

He stated, “This is not as easy as some people will think. This is because we ask ourselves, how do we conduct CBT for practicals and essay papers? We can only readily do that in the case of objective questions.”

Mr. Areghan noted that issues such as computer literacy, access to computer facilities, and reliable electricity supply needed to be considered. He mentioned that despite these challenges, WAEC planned to introduce CBT examinations, starting with objective questions and later incorporating theory and practical papers.

He also mentioned the likelihood of having a segregated market, allowing schools that cannot afford CBT to continue using the traditional pencil and paper mode.

Additionally, Mr. Areghan expressed his desire to see all of the council’s operations fully digitized. He highlighted the digitalization of various sections of the council, including result checking and certificate verification.

WAEC Digital Certificate Officially Launched In Lagos

The outgoing WAEC boss also spoke about his aspiration to see WAEC become more visible on the international stage. He aimed to facilitate Nigerian children in the diaspora taking the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) overseas.

Furthermore, he hoped to expand the digital certificate system introduced in Nigeria to the entire sub-region, enabling candidates who have taken WASSCE to access their digital certificates worldwide.

Mr. Areghan considered the council’s Digital Security Printing Press as a milestone achievement during his tenure, along with other initiatives such as the staff bus scheme to alleviate the impact of high transportation costs.

Reflecting on his greatest achievement, Mr. Areghan emphasized the successful conduct of examinations, the timely release of results, and the issuance of certificates to deserving candidates as key accomplishments during his tenure.

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Lagos State Council, expresses its deepest condolences to the associates and family of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as we mourn his tragic passing.

We fully support the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and urge the relevant authorities to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for him.

However, we must stress the importance of professionalism in reporting and conducting this investigation. NANNM is closely monitoring the situation with keen interest. Our preliminary investigations indicate that the individual reportedly taken into custody by the police for providing care to Mohbad is not a registered Nurse.

“We emphasize the critical need to verify the qualifications and professional status of individuals before labeling them as healthcare professionals.”

This revelation raises questions about the qualifications and professional status of the individual involved in providing care to Mohbad before his untimely demise. The association calls for a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served in this case.

Vice-President Shettima Attributes Tinubu’s Presidency to Divine Ordination.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has expressed his belief that God ordained Bola Tinubu’s emergence as President of Nigeria. While acknowledging that he and his principal occupy two of the most powerful positions in the country, Shettima humbly stated that there are individuals with superior pedigree to theirs.

“We do not occupy our positions because of our physical prowess and certainly not because of our pedigree; there are people of superior pedigree than us,” remarked Mr. Shettima. It is a gift from God and a call to serve humanity for a very short span of time.

The vice-president emphasized Mr. Tinubu’s dedication to improving the livelihood of Nigerians and the fortunes of the country.

“I always believe that power is a humbling experience. We spend more of our lives outside power than in power, and, most importantly, I see it as a gift from God,” Mr. Shettima added. Asiwaju and I are occupying the prime positions in this country, not because of our intellectual acumen or political sagacity but purely by the grace of God.

Mr. Shettima made these statements while hosting the University of Ibadan Postgraduate School alumni, as reported by his media spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha. The delegation also included members of the 1989/1990 set of the National Youth Service Corps with whom he served in Calabar.

And the impact we make in the lives of our people will determine our positions here and in the hereafter. So, to me, it is a humbling experience; it is an opportunity to add value to a great nation like ours,” said the vice-president. More so, Nigeria’s anticipated demographic bulge suggests we improve the quality of governance in the bid to mitigate any looming demographic disaster.

Latest News in Nigeria on US Travel Advisory for Its Citizens.

In a recent travel advisory update, the U.S. Department of State has strongly urged its citizens to reconsider traveling to Nigeria due to various security concerns, including crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and the presence of armed gangs.

Read Also Outrage Trails Demotion of 3 Police Officers Who Survived Unknown Gunmen’s Attack

The advisory, issued on Wednesday, highlighted specific areas within Nigeria that pose an increased risk to travelers. It strongly discouraged travel to certain states, citing specific reasons:

    • Borno, Yobe, Kogi, and Northern Adamawa States: Travel to these areas is not advised due to the heightened risk of terrorism and kidnapping.
    • Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, and Zamfara States: These states should be avoided due to the threat of kidnapping.
    • Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers States (except Port Harcourt): Travelers should exercise caution when visiting these states due to high levels of crime, kidnapping, and the presence of armed gangs.

The advisory also noted that violent crimes such as armed robbery, assault, carjacking, kidnapping, hostage-taking, roadside banditry, and rape are common throughout Nigeria. Kidnappings for ransom occur frequently, targeting both dual national citizens and U.S. citizens perceived to have wealth. Kidnapping gangs have also been known to stop victims on interstate roads.

The U.S. government cautioned about the ongoing threat of terrorist attacks in Nigeria. Terrorists may strike with little or no warning, targeting areas where crowds gather, including shopping centers, malls, markets, hotels, places of worship, restaurants, bars, schools, government installations, and transportation hubs. These terrorist groups sometimes collaborate with local gangs, expanding their reach.

In addition, the advisory highlighted civil unrest and the presence of armed gangs in parts of Southern Nigeria, particularly in the Niger Delta and Southeast regions. Armed criminality, kidnappings, and assaults on Nigerian security services are prevalent in this area. Tensions between farming and herder communities in rural areas can also lead to violence.

The U.S. government emphasized its limited ability to provide emergency services to its citizens in many parts of Nigeria due to security conditions.

Despite these warnings, the advisory provided some guidance for U.S. citizens who still choose to travel to Nigeria, including carrying proper identification, using caution when moving at night, staying alert in areas frequented by Westerners, and avoiding demonstrations and large political gatherings. Travelers were also advised to review their personal security plans and establish protocols with loved ones for proof of life in the event of a hostage situation.

Regarding the high-risk states, the advisory described the security situation as fluid and unpredictable, with widespread terrorist activity, inter-communal violence, and kidnapping. Security operations to counter these threats may occur without warning.

The U.S. Department of State’s travel advisory serves as a reminder of the challenging security landscape in parts of Nigeria and the need for caution when considering travel plans to these areas

Outrage Trails Demotion of 3 Police Officers Who Survived Unknown Gunmen’s Attack

Naija News on Demotion of 3 Police Officers Who Survived Unknown Gunmen’s Attack.

A storm of controversy and outrage has swept through Enugu State following the demotion of three courageous police officers who narrowly escaped an attack by unknown gunmen several months ago. The incident, which occurred in the Nsukka Division, has ignited fervent debate over the treatment of these officers.

Inspectors Ernest Ogbonna, Aboh Justin, and Kingsley Ugwuja, were on duty along the Nsukka-Ibagwa Ani Road in June when they encountered more than 10 heavily armed assailants traveling in a white Hilux and Siena bus. The armed criminals initiated a brutal assault on the officers, who retaliated valiantly, engaging in a firefight that persisted for approximately an hour.

Despite the intense exchange of gunfire, the police officers managed to repel the attackers, some of whom sustained injuries. Regrettably, during the confrontation, the criminals managed to set fire to the police van. Fortunately, no lives were lost, police weapons remained intact, and none of the officers sustained injuries.

Subsequently, an internal investigation was conducted, and an orderly room trial took place. Shockingly, the outcome of the trial led to the demotion of the gallant officers. This decision was further upheld by the Assistant Inspector General at Zone 13, Ukpo, Anambra state, responsible for overseeing police operations in Enugu and Anambra.

    Demotion of 3 Police Officers

This punitive measure has sent shockwaves throughout both commands, as they have been subjected to relentless attacks by criminals posing as unknown gunmen for an extended period. Several police officers, speaking anonymously, expressed their disappointment and frustration at the perceived injustice.

One officer questioned, “Does it mean that the authorities expected them to die and be decorated in death after they performed so gallantly? There were only three ill-equipped officers, but they were able to confront a heavily armed gang of criminals numbering over 10. They emerged unscathed, yet the police’s response was to demote them. This is outrageous, and we cry to high heavens for justice.”

Reports indicate that the affected officers have appealed the decision and are eagerly awaiting a response from the Inspector General of Police.

Demotion of 3 Police Officers : Human rights group intervene

In response to the controversy, the Alliance for Justice, a human rights group in Enugu, decried the low morale among officers in the state due to the unjust treatment of these officers. Dr. Okwui Eze, the group’s spokesman, said, “This is the greatest height of injustice I have seen in this century. Just a few days ago, gallant police officers and soldiers were gruesomely killed by these criminals in Imo state. See the incessant kidnappings now going on in Enugu state, and at the end of the day, the police will wickedly treat their gallant officers that survived such an attack in this heart-rending manner. Where then lies justice? How do you expect our long-suffering and ill-equipped officers and men to continue to fight criminals?”

The group appealed to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to address this “callous and inhuman treatment” and reward the concerned officers appropriately to boost the morale of the police force in Enugu and Anambra states.

Official Update on Demotion of 3 Police Officers

Efforts to obtain comments from the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu, Daniel Ndukwe, and Force Public Relations Officer, CP Muyiwa Adejobi in Abuja, have so far been unsuccessful. Ndukwe emphasized that the orderly trial was an internal administrative or disciplinary matter of the NPF and suggested that aggrieved police personnel should follow proper channels for appealing judgments.

From pastor to monarch: What Pastor Adeboye told me — Soun of Ogbomoso

The historical city of Ogbomoso was on Thursday, September 14, 2023, agog as the newly installed Soun of Ogbomoso land, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Laoye Orumogege III, moved to the main palace to receive members of the community and dignitaries who converged to rejoice with him on his coronation. His coronation as the 28th Soun of Ogbomosoland, followed the approval of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

On the day of his installation, prayers were said by the Bishop of Ogbomoso Diocese of Methodist Church Nigeria, Right Rev’d Ademola Moradeyo; the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, Sheikh Talihat Oluwashina Ayilara; and the Araba Oluawo of Ogbomosoland, Chief Opeyemi Ifamakinde.

Before his installation, a serious controversy had trailed his selection from his own Laoye Royal Family.

    Soun of Ogbomoso interview

In a short interview, the new monarch of Ogbomoso spoke on why he chose to become Soun after being a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) for 30 years in Washington, United States of America. He spoke to his congregation in March 2022 in Washington revealing that he received a divine call to become the Soun of Ogbomoso Kingdom which was why he left the pulpit for the palace

Oba Laoye said: “I was born into the royal family. But one way or the other, the Lord took me on a completely different path. He made me a pastor. In December 2021, I was on vacation in Nigeria, like I normally do every August and December. If I was not in Nigeria, I would be in other parts of the world.

“So, I was in Nigeria when the king of our town joined his ancestors. We have five royal families in Ogbomoso. After the Ajagungbades, we know that it is my royal family – Olaoye, that is the next to produce the king. Everybody in Ogbomoso who knows about the tradition knows that. Of course, I knew about it but I was not interested in it at all because I believe that I have gone on a completely different path. My father never sat me down to say, Ghandi, if you want to become Soun of Ogbomoso, you can be. He never told me and I never bothered. My dad tried to be Soun of Ogbomoso in 1940 but it was not what God wanted for him as the people rejected him.

“But in December 2021, people started calling me, saying: ‘Ghandi, why can’t you do this? -especially people who were close to me and knew that the Laoye Royal Family would produce the Soun after the Ajagungbades. I insisted I did not have interest because I believed I had a different path. Sometime in 2021, I said in the church that I was going to retire. I said that at the age of 60, I was going to retire. People asked me what I would retire into and I said I have done 30 years as a pastor, I felt there are other expressions of ministry.

“I planned that I was still going to do other things in the ministry. It was that time that I appointed Pastor Chinyere as the Executive Pastor and Pastor Olumide as the Lead Pastor of the Church. When I was doing all that, I did not have a plan of what I was going to do. All I knew was that I have had 30 years of pastoring, and Pastor Olumide has been my assistant pastor for 21 years; that is a long time to be somebody’s assistant. Twenty one years! That is nearly a generation, since a generation is about 25 years.

“When I was being told to come and be Soun of Ogbomoso, I told them the life I wanted to live after 60 years is very simple. I wanted to travel the world because I like travelling. I tell people that I was born in a car, and maybe that is why I am just restless as a person; that is my nature. It has been a little difficult to change that. Today, I am just restless, I just want things to happen, I just want to be on the move. I know that is the way God created me. So, that was my plan for 60.

“Then, people started calling me a lot. I insisted I was not interested. Of course, as a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, I didn’t want Daddy G.O (Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the church) to hear. Of course, he is my spiritual father. So, I called him and told him what was going on. I said: ‘I don’t want you to hear. My people wanted me to come and become Soun of Ogbomoso. But I just want you to hear what people are saying. It is not because I am interested, but I don’t want you to hear it from other people.

“The next I asked him was if he knew of any pastor, who left pastoring and went to become an oba. He said of course, he could tell me four. He told me two among them. He then said: ‘You can go ahead, that is all I have to say.’ He also told me that he never wanted to become General Overseer and I can see what General Overseer is today. He told me: ‘Go ahead and do whatever you have to do.’

“To cut the long story short, I had planned that on January 2nd, 2022, which was first Sunday of 2022, I would tell the people calling me to become Soun of my final stance. I was going to tell them to

Dangote Refinery to Sell Petrol to Nigeria in Dollars, Not Naira: Executive Director Gives Reasons

Dangote Refinery to Sell Petrol to Nigeria in Dollars.

LAGOS, NIGERIA – Dangote Refinery, one of Africa’s largest petroleum refining facilities, is poised to commence production after encountering several delays since its commissioning in May 2023. Devakumar Edwin, the Group Executive of Dangote Refinery, has revealed that the facility will begin refining diesel and jet fuel by October 2023, with petrol production to follow in November 2023.

17 New Facts You Need To Know About The Dangote Refinery

Speaking in an interview with S&P Global Commodity Insights, Edwin expressed the refinery’s readiness to receive its first crude shipment, marking a significant milestone in its operational timeline. The initial production is set at 370,000 barrels per day of diesel and jet fuel in October 2023, with gradual scaling to reach 650,000 barrels per day by November 30.

Edwin: Dangote Refinery to Sell Petrol to Nigeria in Dollars

Edwin emphasized the refinery’s pivotal role in addressing Nigeria’s persistent petrol importation challenges. However, it’s worth noting that there’s a distinctive aspect to Dangote Refinery’s approach – the refined oil products will be sold in US dollars, not the Nigerian naira.

Explaining this decision, Edwin cited the refinery’s location within a free trade zone on the outskirts of Lagos. He clarified, “That Nigerian oil will be purchased in US dollars, not naira as some reports had suggested because it is located in a free zone.”

Furthermore, Edwin stressed the importance of diversifying the sources of crude oil processed at the facility. While the refinery will refine Nigerian crude, it will also process crude from other countries. This strategy aims to reduce dependency on Nigerian crude, thereby enhancing operational flexibility.

Edwin highlighted the refinery’s capability to process various African crudes, with the exception of heavy Angolan grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, and US light tight oil. He stated, “We can even take some of the Russian grades… if the global system opens up to allow us to receive [them].”

In a related development, a Nigerian company recently achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first independent marketer to successfully import petrol into the country. This marks a shift away from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) historical monopoly as the sole importer of petroleum products. With the end of the subsidy regime, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has begun issuing licenses to oil marketing companies, ushering in new possibilities for the Nigerian petroleum industry.

As Dangote Refinery’s production gears up and the industry evolves, Nigeria’s energy landscape is poised for significant transformations with implications for both domestic and international markets.

Police arrest five with human skull in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended five individuals found in possession of a human skull. The suspects have reportedly confessed to the police that they were sent on this macabre mission by an Alfa for money ritual purposes. The whereabouts of the Alfa, however, remain unknown at this time.

The announcement of this disturbing discovery was made by the Spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement released on Friday. According to Abiodun, the initial arrests involved two suspects, Isah Mohammed, aged 26, and Idris Mohammed, aged 28, both hailing from Sakpe village in Edati Local Government Area.

The chain of events leading to the arrests began on the 11th of this month when operatives of a sister security agency, conducting routine patrols along the Bida-Minna road, intercepted a Mitsubishi Lancer vehicle. During a search of the passengers, the two aforementioned suspects were found in possession of a human skull wrapped in a Bagco bag. Subsequently, they were transferred to the Police Area Command in Bida for further investigation.

During police interrogation, Isah and Idris confessed that they obtained the human skull from their village and implicated three more individuals who were allegedly involved in exhuming the skull from a grave. The additional suspects, Ibrahim Jiya (aged 18), Suleiman Usman (aged 22), and Abdullahi Usman (aged 24), all hail from the same address in Sakpe village.

The startling revelation continued as the trio confessed that the skull belonged to one Ndako Daniyan, who had passed away three years ago in the same village. They went on to detail that they had been instructed by an Alfa named Suleiman, originally from Kwara State, whom they encountered in Bida three weeks prior.

This Alfa had allegedly directed them to procure a human skull for money ritual purposes and instructed them to deliver it, along with thirty thousand naira, to an unknown recipient in Minna. The unidentified recipient had further instructed them to contact him upon reaching Kpakungu.

The five suspects are currently in custody and have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and legal proceedings. The police are diligently working to unravel the full extent of this disturbing case and locate the Alfa who allegedly masterminded the sinister plan.

NLC Commences Nationwide Indefinite Strike as Government Fails to Meet Demands.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commenced an indefinite nationwide strike today, September 22, 2023. This decision comes after a two-day warning strike earlier this month, which apparently did not yield the desired response from the government.

The primary reason behind this industrial action is the federal government’s perceived failure to address the demands of the labor union. The NLC’s demands include the provision of palliatives to mitigate the adverse effects of fuel subsidy removal.

NLC Commences Nationwide Indefinite Strike: Why?

This escalation follows a 14-day ultimatum given by the NLC to the government, which expired without the desired resolution. According to Benson Upah, the Head of the Department for Information and Public Affairs at NLC, the government has not met any of the union’s demands, paving the way for the indefinite strike.

Upah, in a statement released on Friday, emphasized the seriousness of the situation. He stated, “Do you know of any good general who puts out his plans in the public before he strikes? We are fully ready to strike.” This suggests a determination on the part of the NLC to enforce the strike rigorously, unlike the previous warning strike where compliance was not uniform.

President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for a salary increment, marking a significant development aimed at improving the welfare of academic and non-academic staff in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. This welcomed news serves as a testament to the federal government’s commitment to enhancing the remuneration packages of university employees

According to a circular obtained by Ejes Gist Newspaper, the salary increment has been approved and implemented, marking a positive step towards addressing the longstanding concerns of university staff regarding their remuneration.

The circular, which was addressed to the Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, indicates that the salary increment represents a notable increase from the previous rates. While the circular doesn’t specify the exact percentage of the salary increment, it highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing the financial well-being of university employees.

The circular reads in part: “The 23.5% earlier reflected in our letter SWC/S/04/S.149/T/59 of 28th July 2022 and stated in paragraph 2 of your letter, has been increased to 25% which accounted for the increased cost implications.

Federal Government Faces Potential N1.68tn Fuel Subsidy Bill as Petrol Price Nears N900/Litre.

As the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, approaches the N900 per litre mark, data provided by oil marketers and industry insiders suggest that the Federal Government of Nigeria may be on track to spend a substantial sum of N1.68 trillion as a fuel subsidy between September and December this year.

Read Also Breaking: Bandits Abduct Many Students at Federal University Gusau

PMS dealers have indicated that the current pump price of petrol, which varies between N598 and N617 per litre depending on the location of purchase, raises suspicions that the commodity is being subsidized by the Federal Government. This suspicion arises due to the fall of the Naira against the United States dollar and the surge in crude oil prices on the international market.

Despite the lack of an official announcement regarding the reintroduction of fuel subsidy by the government, oil marketers insist that it is the only viable explanation for maintaining the current petrol price in the face of unfavorable economic conditions.

Operators in the downstream oil sector have attributed over 80 percent of the cost of PMS to the price of crude oil and the exchange rate of the Naira against the US dollar. Brent crude, the global benchmark for oil, surged to approximately $95 per barrel, the highest figure in 2023. This, coupled with the Naira’s decline, has intensified pressure on the cost of PMS.

While the Naira’s official exchange rate remains relatively stable, the parallel market has seen the Naira exchanging at an alarming rate of N980 to the US dollar, further affecting the cost dynamics of imported fuel.

Oil marketers argue that with the current exchange rate and international crude oil prices, the retail price of PMS should ideally be between N890 and N900 per litre. They emphasize that this subsidy is crucial to assist the masses, as comparative prices for petrol in other countries far exceed what is observed in Nigeria.

Although some level of deregulation was previously implemented, leading to a significant increase in the pump price of petrol, it appears that the government is considering the re-implementation of fuel subsidies to ease the financial burden on consumers.

Official statements regarding the reintroduction of subsidies are awaited, but industry experts and analysts assert that it is essential for the government to provide clear and transparent communication on its policies and intentions to ensure public trust.

The potential reintroduction of fuel subsidies carries economic implications, and the government’s ability to balance affordability for consumers with the fiscal responsibilities of the state remains a critical challenge. As the government grapples with these challenges, Nigerians anxiously await further developments in the fuel pricing landscape and seek clarity on the nation’s energy policy.

Abubakar Sani, an indigene of Sabon Gida village, provided chilling details of the attack. According to Sani, the bandits struck the area at approximately 4:00 am on Friday, catching the students off guard as they stormed three separate student hostels.

Tragically, many of the kidnapped students were females, while some fortunate students managed to escape into the nearby bush to evade capture. The bandits exhibited a ruthless modus operandi, only focusing on abducting university students and sparing the village residents.

Sani recounted the harrowing ordeal, stating, “When they arrived in the village, they went straight to the students’ off-campus residences and started shooting sporadically. They later broke into the campuses and forcibly took away a number of students, most of whom were females.”

This shocking incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent security challenges faced by communities in Zamfara State and other parts of Nigeria. The safety and well-being of the abducted students are of paramount concern, and efforts to secure their release and bring the perpetrators to justice must be swift and resolute.

As the nation grapples with this latest act of criminality, questions regarding security measures around educational institutions and the broader issue of insecurity in Zamfara State loom large. The incident underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive and coordinated response to address the escalating security crisis in the region, ensuring that educational institutions can operate in an environment where the safety of students and staff is guaranteed.

Pyrrhic victory for Tinubu as Senior U.S. judge delays release of Chicago university records to Atiku after he pleads life damage

Chicago, Illinois – In a dramatic legal development, Judge Nancy Maldonado of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has issued an immediate stay on the release of President Bola Tinubu’s university records, following a plea by Tinubu himself, who expressed concerns about severe and irreparable damage to his life.

Mohbad’s Candlelight Turns Bloody as Police Shoot and Tear Gas Mourners (Video)

The high-stakes legal battle unfolded after Mr. Tinubu, through his legal representatives, implored Judge Maldonado to postpone the implementation of a September 6 order issued by Judge Jeffrey Gilbert, a magistrate. In a move that signifies the gravity of the situation, Judge Maldonado granted the stay, acknowledging the potential life-altering consequences for Mr. Tinubu.

“This needs to be handled with care,” Judge Maldonado emphasized during the proceedings.

Naira Hits New Low as Dollar Exchange Rate Reaches ₦990 at Black Market

Under this new development, Mr. Tinubu’s legal team has been granted until Monday to submit a comprehensive brief to the court. Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar’s legal representatives have pledged to respond by 11:00 p.m. on the same day.

“I may ultimately adopt the magistrate’s recommendation and allow the discovery to go forward, or I can ask all parties to file briefs afresh,” Judge Maldonado stated, underscoring the complexity of the case.

At the heart of this legal clash lies a subpoena application filed by Mr. Abubakar, who is seeking access to Mr. Tinubu’s records at Chicago State University. This request comes in the wake of widespread discrepancies concerning the Nigerian president’s academic records that are already in the public domain.

Severe and Irreparable Damage Will Be Done to Me If Chicago University Releases My Records,” Tinubu Pleads with U.S. Senior Judge

Bola Tinubu files emergency appeal to block Chicago State university from releasing records, testifying under oath

Judge Gilbert had previously granted Mr. Abubakar’s application in a judgment issued on Tuesday. This ruling not only ordered the production of the documents but also called for the deposition of the school’s administrators. Mr. Abubakar intends to employ these records to establish Mr. Tinubu’s ineligibility for the presidency, invoking the constitutional section that disqualifies a candidate who submits a forged certificate to the electoral office, INEC.

However, officials at Chicago State University have maintained that Mr. Tinubu did attend the institution. They have also noted their inability to authenticate his certificate under oath due to uncertainty surrounding its origin.

Initially, Mr. Tinubu argued against the release of the documents to Mr. Abubakar, contending that they would not hold up in the Nigerian Supreme Court. He intends to file them as part of his appeal against a tribunal verdict certifying his election on September 6.

As this legal battle unfolds, it continues to captivate attention, both in Nigeria and beyond, due to its potential implications for the highest office in the country.
