    4. Tinubu once claimed in his INEC form that he attended St. Paul Aroloya Primary School in Lagos and Government College, Obadan, during the 1999 Lagos Governorship Election. 10. Tinubu also claimed that he attended Richard J. Daley College in Chicago, but a subpoena to the school also confirmed that he didn’t attend the school.

Zamfara Governor accuses FG of secret talks with bandits.

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has accused some agents of the Federal Government of engaging in secret negotiations with bandits without the knowledge and consent of the State Government and security agencies.

Lawal made this allegation in response to a statement by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, who had earlier accused the Zamfara State Government of politicising security issues in the state.

Governor Dauda Lawal has enough evidences

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on media, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Lawal said he had enough facts and evidence to expose the identities and activities of the Federal Government agents who were involved in the covert dialogue with bandits in Zamfara.

He said the Information Minister should have conducted a thorough investigation before making such a statement, adding that he was disappointed that the minister discredited his claim without verifying it first.

Lawal said he respected protocol and established authority and would not come out in the media to start exposing the names of the Federal Government agents involved in the secret talks with bandits.

He said he sought clarification from the Federal Government regarding the sneaky negotiations with bandits carried out by some of its agents without recourse to the State Government and heads of Security agencies in the State.

He said he had already exposed a few locations where such talks were held with bandits, such as Birnin Magaji, Maradun, Mun Haye, Ajah, Bawo, and Bagege.

He urged the Federal Government to take a firm stance against such activities and investigate the motives of those who engage in them.

He said negotiating with bandits in Zamfara was a grave mistake that would only encourage and embolden the criminals, adding that it was not the solution to the problem.

Cholera outbreak hits 2,860 cases, 10 deaths in 6 states (Full List)

Cholera outbreak in Nigeria claims 10 lives in four weeks.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease and Prevention Control (NCDC) has reported 210 new suspected cases of cholera and 10 deaths in the country between July 31 and August 27, 2023.

The NCDC said this in its latest monthly situation report on cholera, which covers epidemiological weeks 31 to 34. The report was published on its official website on September 25, 2023.

Read Also Erisco Foods Limited arrests customer for complaining of excessive sugar in their tomato products

Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. It can lead to severe dehydration and death if untreated. Cholera is mainly prevalent in areas with poor sanitation and limited access to clean water.

According to the NCDC, the number of suspected cases and deaths of cholera in 2023 have decreased by 63 and 67 per cent, respectively, compared to the same period in 2022. However, the case fatality ratio (CFR) of 2.9 per cent remains high and above the national target of less than one per cent.

The NCDC said that as of August 27, 2023, a total of 84 suspected deaths and 2,860 suspected cases of cholera have been recorded across 25 states in Nigeria. Six states: Cross River, Katsina, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Niger, and Abia account for 62 per cent of the suspected cases in 2023.

Read Also Reuben Abati of Arise TV Accuses Peter Obi Supporters of Setting Supreme Court on Fire

The report also revealed that Zamfara state in the North-West region recorded the highest number of new suspected cases with 190, followed by Kano and Bayelsa with seven and five, respectively. Bauchi, Niger, and Borno states reported two cases each, while Gombe and Adamawa states reported one case each.

The NCDC said that out of the 21 cholera rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) conducted in the reporting period, nine were positive for cholera. Out of the 26 stool culture tests conducted, three were positive for Vibrio cholerae O1 serotype Ogawa.

The NCDC said that it is working with the national multi-sectoral cholera technical working group (TWG) to coordinate and monitor the response activities across the affected states. The TWG comprises representatives from the Federal Ministry of Health, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Federal Ministry of Environment, World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, MSF, and other partners.

The NCDC advised the public to take preventive measures against cholera by ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water. If the water source is questionable, it should be treated by boiling, using water disinfectant tablets, or using a water filter. The public should also practice good hygiene by washing hands with soap and clean water regularly, especially before handling or consuming food. Furthermore, foods should be thoroughly cooked especially seafood and vegetables that may have been contaminated by sewage or floodwater.

The NCDC urged anyone who experiences symptoms of cholera such as watery diarrhoea, vomiting, dehydration, and weakness to seek medical attention immediately at the nearest health facility. The NCDC also appealed to health workers to report any suspected case of cholera to the local government area or state disease surveillance and notification officers for prompt investigation and response.

Arrest of Consumer by Erisco Foods Limited Sparks Concerns Over Consumer Rights and Police Misuse”

In a shocking incident, a Nigerian consumer’s critical review of a product on social media has ignited a debate about consumer rights and the misuse of law enforcement in civil disputes.

On September 17, 2023, Chioma Blessing Edoka, a Nigerian consumer, purchased a tin of Nagiko Tomato Mix and posted on her Facebook page to express her concerns and opinions about the product.

Chioma wrote “I went to buy Tin tomatoes yesterday that i will use to make stew, i didn’t see Gino and Sonia, so i decided to buy this one. When i opened it, i decided to taste it omo! Sugar is just too much! Haaa biko let me know if you have used this Tin tomato before because this is an ike gwuru situation (a waste of money)”.

Erisco Foods Limited and Chioma Blessing Edoka

    Erisco Foods Limited Arrested Her

Erisco Foods Limited, the manufacturer of Nagiko Tomato Mix, took an unexpected and extreme action against Chioma for her review. Ignoring her concerns and dialogue, the company called the Nigerian Police Force on her. The Nigerian Police Force arrested Chioma on September 24, 2023.

This drastic measure was taken against a consumer who had committed no crime other than sharing an honest review. It has raised significant questions about several issues. These include consumer rights, the legal implications of such actions, and the use of law enforcement as a tool of intimidation and harassment in civil disputes.

Erisco Foods Limited vs Consumer rights

Consumer rights are guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution and laws. They deserve fair treatment and respect for their opinions and feedback. They have the right to express their concerns and grievances openly without fear of retaliation or persecution.

It is deeply troubling that Erisco Foods Limited involved the Nigerian Police Force in response to a product review. The arrest of a consumer who exercised her right to free speech and provided an honest review potentially violates her constitutional right to freedom of expression.

The misuse of the Nigerian Police Force to intimidate and harass citizens over civil disputes undermines the rule of law and democracy. Law enforcement agencies have a duty to uphold the law impartially. Citizens lose trust and confidence in the law enforcement system when the police are involved in civil matters unrelated to criminal activity.

We also urge the Nigeria Police to investigate their officers’ conduct and ensure the protection of citizens’ rights. We call upon the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPCN) to investigate this violation. This agency is responsible for safeguarding consumer rights across Nigeria.

This incident shows how consumer rights are violated and law enforcement is corrupted in civil matters. It highlights the need for consumer rights protection and law enforcement reform in civil matters.

  • Reuben Abati of Arise TV Accuses Peter Obi Supporters of Setting Supreme Court on Fire

Reuben Abati of Arise TV Accuses Peter Obi Supporters of Setting Supreme Court on Fire

Reuben Abati, a co-host of Arise TV’s The Morning Show, has accused supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate for the 2023 presidential election, of setting a section of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on fire.

He made this statement in a live 18-second video during the show, according to him, Peter Obi supporters, who are known for advocating for “all eyes on the judiciary”, have moved from “all eyes on the judiciary” to “attack on the Supreme Court. His statement has however generated lots of negative reactions towards him.

Ejes Gist Newspaper has previously reported that the Supreme Court was on fire on Monday, September 25, 2023. The fire reportedly started from the roof of the building and spread to other parts. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but some eyewitnesses claimed that they saw some people throwing petrol bombs at the building.

The Supreme Court was scheduled to hear the appeal of Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, the People’s Democratic Party candidate, against Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election. Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress candidate, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after a controversial election that was marred by allegations of rigging, violence and intimidation.

Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar have challenged Tinubu’s victory at the tribunal and the Court of Appeal, but both courts dismissed their petitions for lack of merit. They have appealed to the Supreme Court, hoping to overturn Tinubu’s victory and claim the presidency.

However, with the fire incident at the Supreme Court, it is unclear if and when the appeal will be heard. Some political analysts have suggested that the fire was a deliberate attempt to sabotage the judicial process and prevent Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar from getting justice. Others have argued that the fire was an accident and that it should not affect the hearing of the appeal.

    Watch Video Here

Reuben Abati’s accusation against Peter Obi supporters has added more fuel to the already tense political situation in Nigeria. Many Nigerians have condemned his statement as baseless and irresponsible, while others have supported his claim as plausible and courageous. Some have called for his arrest and prosecution for spreading false information and inciting violence, while others have defended his right to freedom of expression and opinion.

The Nigerian government has not yet issued any official statement on the fire incident or Reuben Abati’s accusation. The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, has also not commented on the matter. The police and fire service are still investigating the cause and extent of the fire.

Release only my certificate to Atiku; block CSU from revealing gender, other admission records, Tinubu begs US Judge

President Bola Tinubu has reluctantly allowed a federal judge in the United States to give his university certificate to his political opponent Atiku Abubakar.

But the Nigerian leader pleaded with Judge Nancy Maldonado to block all other details, especially the gender and admission records, among others, of the person who owns the certificate from being disclosed.

Mr Tinubu’s prayers on Monday morning came as part of the ongoing legal battle unfolding at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago.

The case was brought by Mr Abubakar, who has been on a judicial quest to establish that Mr Tinubu was not eligible to be Nigerian president despite his election in February 2023.

He won the election by 36 per cent of the vote after Mr Abubakar and Peter Obi, who was his running mate in the 2019 election, fell out, subsequently dividing their potential votes into at least two parts, paving the way for Mr Tinubu’s victory with the slimmest margin in Nigerian presidential election history.

Mr Tinubu’s acceptance that his certificate could be released came after he narrowly escaped full disclosure on September 21 by pleading severe harm to his life in order to obtain a stay of a magistrate judge’s order on September 19.

“There is harm in allowing discovery on issues and documents outside the diploma,” Mr Tinubu’s lawyers said in their full briefing to the court seeking a review of Judge Jeffrey Gilbert’s order by Ms Maldonado, a district judge.

The identity of who was admitted into Chicago State University in the 1970s has been a hot issue after college transcripts emerged that indicated the school admitted a female Bola Tinubu from Southwest College Chicago in 1977.

Whereas Mr Tinubu’s lawyers, led by Victor Henderson and Christopher Carmichael, insisted that the documents Mr Abubakar sought wouldn’t be admissible at the Supreme Court, they nonetheless appeared to anticipate the potential for an unfavourable ruling and consequently gave the judge an alternative direction of giving only an order for the school to certify strictly the certificate the president tendered to run for election.

Mr Gilbert’s ruling last week required CSU administrators to confirm under oath whether or not the certificate Mr Tinubu tendered in Nigeria was genuine. Additionally, the officials were mandated to show a certificate issued to a CSU graduate in 1979, with the person’s identification redacted, and to also turn over communications relating to a letter the school issued to Mr Tinubu in 2022.

Mr Tinubu feared that allowing the deposition of CSU officials to go forward could inflict severe, irreparable damage to his life, saying Mr Abubakar was only on a fishing expedition to fuel online conspiracy theories.

In today’s filing, a man, who identified himself as Olajide Adeniji, submitted an affidavit saying he attended school with Mr Tinubu from 1977 to 1979.

Breaking: Tribunal dismisses PDP, LP’s petition against APC, Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governorship Election Tribunal Upholds Sanwo-Olu’s Victory

The Lagos State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has delivered a unanimous judgment upholding the election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the duly elected governor of the state.

In a ruling read by Justice Mikail Abdullahi on behalf of the three-member panel, the tribunal deemed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, lacking in merit and subsequently dismissed it.

Before reaching its verdict, the tribunal addressed preliminary objections raised by the parties involved, carefully considering the issues at hand.

The first issue addressed was whether the tribunal had the competence and jurisdiction to hear the petition. Justice Abdullahi affirmed that it did, as this matter had already been resolved during the preliminary objection stage.

The second matter for determination by the tribunal was whether Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, were validly nominated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest the polls. The tribunal cited relevant provisions of the Constitution and the Electoral Act, as well as previous legal precedents, stating that this was a pre-election issue unrelated to the conduct of the contested polls.

Furthermore, the tribunal ruled that the petitioners were not members of the APC, the 4th respondent, and therefore lacked the standing to challenge the party’s primaries that produced both candidates.

Regarding the alleged forged certificate presented by Governor Sanwo-Olu, the tribunal noted that the petitioner, Jandor, testified that Sanwo-Olu did not attend Community Grammar School, Ijebu-Ife, where the certificate originated. Jandor also stated that the school’s principal was still alive. The tribunal questioned why Jandor did not call the principal or any staff as witnesses to testify about the certificate.

In its final analysis, the tribunal declared, “that the petition lacks merit and is accordingly dismissed. I affirm the election and return of Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu as the duly elected governor of Lagos state. Parties are to bear their cost.”

The Lagos Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal’s ruling also dismissed the petitions brought by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and the Labour Party,  who had challenged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 18 governorship election.

Justice Mikhail Abdullah announced this decision while delivering judgment on the objections raised by the respondents in the case.

Cement Producers Warn of Price Surge as Government Plans Concrete Roads.

Nigeria – The Cement Producers Association of Nigeria has issued a stark warning that the federal government’s plans to introduce concrete roads could lead to a significant increase in the price of cement, raising it from the current rate of N5,000 per bag to as high as N9,000 per bag.

In a joint statement signed by the National Chairman, Prince David Iweta, and National Secretary, Chief Reagan Ufomba, the association called on the government to tackle the recurrent issue of rising cement prices by encouraging broader participation in the cement industry. They emphasized that Nigerians should not have to pay more than N5,600 per bag for cement.

While commending the Minister of Works’ support for cement-made roads, the association cautioned that neglecting the supply side of the cement market could have dire consequences. They urged the government to focus on road designs that allow for both cement technology and asphalt pavement simultaneously. This approach would offer contractors the necessary time and resources for a smooth transition, including investments in appropriate equipment and retooling.

The statement issued by the association stated, “Our findings from various parts of the country show that cement sells for as high as N6,000 per bag in the rainy season. Our prediction is that it will sell for over N9,000 per bag in the dry season, especially with the pronouncement of the Honourable Minister of Works on cement technology and the marching order on housing by Mr. President if the government does not take proactive steps.

The association called for the introduction of weighbridges at access points on highways to regulate static and dynamic load traffic. They also urged collaboration with relevant government ministries on crafting realistic policies regarding cement pricing.

The association further requested the government to conclude the backward integration policy initiated during the late Yar’adua administration. This policy aimed to enhance the availability and affordability of cement in Nigeria.

In conclusion, the statement called for comprehensive policy harmonization between fiscal and monetary policies, intervention in the foreign exchange market, restructuring of bad loans for manufacturers, and a review of palliative modules. The association stressed the importance of decisive government action to revive manufacturing concerns and reduce the dependency on foreign direct investment.

The warning from the Cement Producers Association serves as a reminder of the challenges and complexities involved in introducing new infrastructure projects and technologies in Nigeria, with a focus on the potential impacts on key industries like cement production.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced an urgent National Executive Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 26, in response to its impending indefinite industrial action.

This critical development was conveyed in a concise statement released on Sunday by NLC General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, directed to Presidents, General Secretaries, and Treasurers of affiliate unions.

The statement clarified that the meeting, slated for Tuesday, would be conducted virtually, ensuring the participation of key stakeholders without the need for physical presence.

While the precise agenda of the meeting was not explicitly outlined, it is widely believed to be linked to the NLC’s intended strike action, following the lapse of a 21-working day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government.

Previously, the organized labour movement embarked on a two-day warning strike to underscore their demands and concerns. Subsequently, the NLC granted the government a 21-day grace period to address their grievances.

In a press statement, Yazid Abubakar, spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, assured the public that every effort would be made to rescue all the kidnapped students. The command had deployed an additional tactical team for search-and-rescue operations.

Tinubu assured the families of the kidnapped students that no effort would be spared to ensure their safe return and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to safeguarding educational institutions from the menace of terrorists.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) also condemned the abduction, describing it as “one abduction too many” with grave implications for girl-child education in the region. The ACF urged the Federal Government to urgently revamp the nation’s security architecture to address insecurity and related threats comprehensively.
