Anxiety Sweeps Atiku And Obi Camps As US Visa Ban Looms

A 20-minute telephone conversation that took place last Tuesday between United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is causing concerns in the camps of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi.

According to sources close to the matter, Sentry has learned that the recent development has come as a rude shock to the two men who are currently challenging Tinubu’s victory in court. These sources have revealed that the men and their supporters had expected a different outcome after their strenuous efforts to discredit the election.

In the wake of the US government’s announcement that it may impose visa bans on certain Nigerians suspected of impeding the country’s democratic progress, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reportedly reached out to Nigerian presidential hopeful Bola Tinubu. Sources suggest that the nature of their conversation has left other presidential aspirants feeling uncertain about their own potential exposure to visa bans, rather than Tinubu or his supporters.

According to reports, there has been a surge in fear among the Nigerian populace in recent days. This fear is said to have been further intensified by the recent announcement by the United States of a high-level delegation that will be attending the inauguration of Bola Tinubu as the successor to President Muhammadu Buhari. The inauguration is scheduled to take place on Monday at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation within Obi’s camp, there has been a noticeable shift in mood since last week. This change came about when they discovered that their initial belief, which was that Tinubu had fallen out of favour with America following the election, was incorrect. In fact, Tinubu is still highly regarded as a respected democrat.

The revelation that America was not swayed by the propaganda and character assassination campaigns against Tinubu during the presidential race came as a surprise to many.

The American people have demonstrated their discernment and sophistication by not falling for the falsehoods propagated about Tinubu’s personality and character on social media and certain traditional news outlets. This is particularly noteworthy given the propaganda machine of Obi and Atiku’s supporters.

The recent murder of American envoys in Anambra, the state where LP presidential candidate Obi received 98 percent of the votes, has placed him in a precarious situation. This incident occurred on the same day that Blinken had a conversation with Tinubu. As a result, Obi’s supporters are being scrutinised, and he is facing significant challenges.

In the suit with reference number CV/6273/2023, Alison-Madueke alleges that false and defamatory reports were written and published by the EFCC and the AGF on the agency’s website and other news platforms, tarnishing her reputation as a corrupt and dishonest public officer.

According to the former minister, these publications have maliciously smeared her integrity and character, which she considers crucial to the success of her political aspirations. In a writ of summons submitted to the Federal High Court in Abuja by her legal representative, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Alison-Madueke is seeking several reliefs.

Firstly, she requests that the court orders the defendants to retract the publications and issue an unreserved apology to her in three national newspapers. This is in response to the false, injurious, malicious, and libelous nature of the reports that have been circulating for the past eight years.

Additionally, Alison-Madueke seeks a court order restraining the defendants from further distributing similar offensive and libelous materials or stories about her.

Furthermore, the former minister is pursuing substantial damages from the EFCC and the AGF. She demands the sum of N100,000,000,000.00 (100 billion naira) as compensation for the harm caused by the false and injurious publications on the EFCC’s publishing platform, allegedly orchestrated by both the agency and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

It remains to be seen how the court will respond to Alison-Madueke’s legal action and whether her demands will be granted. As the case progresses, it is expected to attract attention due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved and the serious allegations made against them

  • Strong Contenders For Ondo State Ministerial Slot Revealed

Strong Contenders For Ondo State Ministerial Slot Revealed

After the May 29 inauguration of the Nigerian President-elect, Asiwaju Bola, he is expected to announce his cabinet ministers in the month of June, all things being equal. It is, however, believed that political search lights are already being beamed on Ondo State to spot a ministerial nominee for the Sunshine State.

Read also: Breaking: Governor El-Rufai sacks Kaduna State Assembly Clerk

Although it has been gathered, several factors will be considered in determining the nominee to represent Ondo State in the next Federal Executive Council. Aside from being an active and highly committed member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), other factors to consider in choosing a ministerial nominee from Ondo State may include track records of performance, age, closeness to the President-elect, and the capacity to change the narrative in favour of the new administration.

Read also: Breaking: Former PDP Chairman is dead; see cause of death.

It has, however, been gathered that Asiwaju is very likely to make Ondo State one of the states where he plans to strongly identify with the youths. This may then explain why age has been made one of the criteria for the would-be ministerial nominee from Ondo State. The Sunshine State, as gathered, is also seen as one that is not in the stranglehold of any politician. Although Governor Akeredolu is seen as the natural leader of APC in Ondo State, past experiences and the present face-off between Aketi and the NWC of APC on the party’s choice for National Assembly leadership may have foreclosed the chances of appointing the governor’s preferred choice.

attentionPay Attention to terrifying moments as a passenger opens the plane door midair on a flight.

Also, the robust and long-term relationship of certain Ondo State indigenes with Asiwaju Tinubu is being leveraged to give the Sunshine State the slot of a senior minister in the new political dispensation. The argument has always been that Ondo State, which has consistently been an APC state, is only considered good enough to fill the slot of a ‘junior minister’. Meanwhile, in light of factors to be considered to fill the ministerial slot in Ondo State, some individuals have been deemed qualified and suitable to represent the Sunshine State in the new Federal Executive Council.

    Olusola Alexander Oke, SAN

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria is truly desirous of the ministerial slot in Ondo State, as it is believed that he intends to use it as a springboard to actualize his unhidden governorship ambition. It is also believed that Oke intends to take after the duo of the late Dr. Olusegun Agagu and Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who both leveraged their ministerial offices to become the governors of Ondo State.

The 67-year-old Olusola Oke is indeed qualified to represent the Sunshine State as a minister in view of his political antecedents and professional accomplishments. He got elected in 1992 to represent the Ilaje/Ese-odo federal constituency of Ondo State. He was appointed as a pioneer board member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in 2000. On account of his achievements and experience as NDDC federal commissioner, he was again appointed as the Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) in 2004.

Olusola Oke was nominated in 2005, and he served in the National Political Reform Conference. He again served as a member of the Presidential Technical Committee on the Niger Delta in 2007. He had also served in 2009 as the Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic Bida before being appointed yet again as the Chairman of the National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency from 2009 to 2011.

Chief Oke contested but lost his first bid to occupy the governorship seat of Ondo State on the platform of the PDP in 2012. He again vied for the governorship position of the Sunshine State on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2016 but disputably lost the primaries, albeit narrowly, to the incumbent Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. The displeased Olusola Oke decamped to the Alliance.
for Democracy (AD) on account of his displeasure with the outcome of the APC primaries. The man has since returned to the APC, and he is hoping to pick up the ministerial slot in Ondo State.

    Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa

    The 58-year-old Lucky Aiyedatiwa
is the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, and he is unpretentious about his desire to succeed his boss, Governor Akeredolu. Before his election as Ondo State Deputy Governor, he had earlier served as a commissioner on the board of
the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

It may be surprising that the Master’s degree holder in Business Administration (MBA) from
The University of Liverpool could still nurse ministerial ambition instead of the widely believed governorship aspiration. The businessman turned politician is, after all, hoping to use the office of minister as a major springboard to realise his governorship ambition.

Judging by all parameters, Aiyedatiwa is qualified to take up the ministerial slot in Ondo State, having been in office as a Deputy Governor since February 25, 2021, when he and his boss were sworn in. The Obe-Nla-born Aiyedatiwa has been carrying himself with the candour and sense of responsibility expected from a deputy governor. The man has also not fallen short of admirable discharge of his official responsibilities in his capacity as a deputy governor or anytime he acted as the acting governor of Ondo State.

nominated asOrimisan had earlier been nominated one of the national delegates from Ondo State at the Abuja national convention of the APC in 2014. Earlier in 2015, he had contested to represent the people of Ilaje/Ese-Odo federal constituency. As a Federal Commissioner, he represented Ondo State on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from 2018 to 2019.

    Hon. Tajudeen Adeyemi Adefisoye

Tajudeen Adeyemi Adefisoye is popularly known across the country as Small Alhaji. He is a grassroots mobilizer, and he enjoys the large support of the youth in his federal constituency and the state at large. The Idanre-born politician is still very young, and he may just fit into Asiwaju’s plan to accommodate youths in his administration. The young man had surprisingly, at the age of 34, contested and won a House of Representatives seat in
2019. He did achieve this feat by defeating some political heavyweights.

Small Alhaji is the outgoing member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the House of Representatives. Although he lost his bid to become a ranking member of the House of Representatives due to conspiratorial gang-ups against him by certain leaders in his political party, the APC, It was rumoured that some leaders in the Idanre chapter of the APC became uncomfortable with his meteoric rise in politics and chose to work against him in the last election so as to curtail his speedy and steady political rise.

He is the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Army. It is on record, however, that he, along with the Chairman of the House Committee on Army, achieved marked improvement in the welfare of Nigerian Army personnel. Transformative measures have also been put in place in the Nigerian Army through the ingenious efforts of the Army Committee, which has Tajudeen Adefisoye as deputy chairman. Impacts of the
Excellent legislative oversight duties by Small Alhaji in the Army can be directly linked to the obviously improved and clinically professional output by Nigerian soldiers in the last four years.

The 38-year-old graduate of business administration from the University of Ekiti State is also known to have performed excellently as a federal legislator. A number of his constituents also give him deserved credit for his transformative representation as well as his numerous projects and welfare intervention programmes. However, it is still very much unknown whether the young legislator enjoys a good relationship with the new set of power brokers.

    Hon. Prince Ademola Adegoroye

The Akure Prince is a member of the recently dissolved Federal Executive Council. Adegoroye served as the Minister of State for Transport. He was able to make his mark within 10 months of being in office.

Prince Ademola is believed to be highly instrumental in the approval of the licence for Ondo Multipurpose Port. He is definitely still very popular amongst the people of Akure and Ondo State at large for his undeniable landmark impact while in office as a minister.

The lawyer and former member of the Ondo State House of Assembly is also believed to have played a crucial role in the award of the Akure-Ikere federal road that has become impassable. Recently, the minister deemed it necessary to pay a ‘thank you’ visit to the Minister of Work and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, over the award of the Akure-Ikere road.

Moreso, Adegoroye, who only last year contested and lost the APC primary election in his bid to secure the party’s ticket for Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency,
He, however, quickly rose above the defeat and positioned himself for a higher responsibility. He has also done well with the facilitation of federal employment for some of his constituents. It is not in any way hidden that Ademola Adegoroye is very much desirous of returning to the Federal Executive Council, and he is largely banking on Governor Akeredolu to once again pull the strings for him.

Meanwhile, it has also been gathered that a former Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Ifedayo Abegunde, popularly known as Abena, is equally interested in the ministerial slot in Ondo State. Also, the Ondo State Commissioner for Finance and a front-line governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC are equally interested in the slot. The same thing goes for the member of the House of Representatives who has won re-election to represent Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. He is definitely a super-performing legislator and the Chairman of the House Committee on NDDC. The young and cerebral Tunji-Ojo is also keenly watching, monitoring, and gauging the situation in the Ondo State ministerial slot.

Asiana Airlines: passenger opens plane door midair on flight

On Friday afternoon, as an Asiana Airlines flight was preparing to land in Daegu, South Korea, the plane’s door opened, sending a gust of wind through the cabin as terrified passengers clutched their armrests.

A representative of the airline stated that a man in his 30s sitting in the emergency seat appeared to have opened the door when the plane was approximately 700 feet (213 metres) above the ground and two to three minutes away from landing in a city 150 miles (240 kilometres) south of Seoul.

However, company representatives informed reporters that the plane had landed safely.

The local police reported an arrest. They reported that he admitted to opening the door but refused to explain why.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of South Korea issued a statement on Friday stating that police and the ministry were investigating a person for violating aviation law.

The statement said that anyone who violates the Aviation Security Act, which prohibits passengers from operating aircraft doors, exits, or equipment, could be prosecuted and sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.

The ministry also stated that it had dispatched an aviation safety supervisor to the site to determine if aircraft maintenance was abnormal.

Asiana Airlines reports that there were 200 people on board, 194 of whom were passengers.

According to the Daegu Fire Department, twelve individuals sustained minor injuries due to hyperventilation, and nine of them were transported to Daegu hospitals.

The aircraft was identified as an Airbus 321 on the Flightradar 24 tracking website.

The aircraft was en route from Jeju island, off the southern coast of South Korea, to Daegu.

Geoffrey Thomas of Airline Ratings, an expert in aviation, described the incident as “very bizarre.”

“Technically, it’s not possible to open those doors while in flight,” he told newsmen.

Thomas observed that the landing speed of an A321 is approximately 150 knots (172 mph), indicating that the aircraft is passing through winds of that speed. He stated that the door behind the wing of the aircraft opened into the airflow.

“It seems implausible that the door could have been opened in the first place, and then against the airstream, which is technically impossible, but somehow or another it has happened,” Thomas said.

“The cabin pressure is adjusted automatically based on the aircraft’s altitude.” When the aircraft is at a high altitude, the door cannot be opened, but when the altitude is low and the aircraft is close to landing, the door can be opened.

Edo High Court quashes suspension of Abure from Labour Party

Court affirms Abure as LP chairman, restrains Apapa-faction

On Friday, a State High Court sitting in Edo dismissed the notice of suspension issued against the embattled Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, by some ward-level party members.

The judge, Justice Emmanuel Aihamoje, dismissed the case for lack of merit.

Read Also: BREAKING: Another Win as court dismisses another suit against Tinubu’s inauguration

This was stated in a statement released in Abuja on Friday by the party’s acting national publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, who also confirmed that Abure and the LP Ward 3 executives in Esan North East, Edo State, filed the lawsuit.

In his nearly two-hour-long ruling, Aihamoje determined that the party ward executive in Uromi, ward 3, lacked the authority under the Labour Party Constitution, specifically Act 13 & 17 and the Electoral Act 2022, as amended, to remove the party’s national chairman.

Until a new national convention of the party is convened, the judge in Case No. HUC/21/2023 enjoined Lamidi Apapa and his faction from removing or suspending Abure as national chairman.

Aihamoje added that the alleged wards 3 executive that suspended the national chairman of the party acted outside the authority granted to it by the Labour Party Constitution.

Thompson Ehiguese, chairman of the Labour Party in Ward 3, stated to reporters at the courthouse that the ruling has put an end to impostors posing as Labour Party members in Ward 3.

He stated, “These charlatans claiming to be members of our party are APC members from Edo North. I would like to take this opportunity to commend the Labour Party and the Obedient Movement for their staunch support of Comrade Julius Abure during the sponsored crisis in our great party.

“The ruling makes it abundantly clear that Julius Abure will remain national chairman until the party’s convention next year. Nothing can alter our collective resolve to reclaim the mandate freely granted to Mr. Peter Obi and the party in the last presidential election by the Nigerian populace.

Kelly Ogbaloi, chairman of the Edo State Labour Party, stated that the Labour Party has been vindicated and that the court has confirmed that Apapa and his faction are ‘tragic power seekers.’

“Apapa, who was a deputy national chairman and keeper of the party’s constitution at the time, knew that those who came to Abuja to announce the suspension of the national chairman were acting illegally, as the action was contrary to the provisions of the party’s constitution. As a result, he ran to court, seeking an ex-parte motion to halt the national chairman.

“Today they have been informed that the court will no longer tolerate the charade,” he said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the faction led by Lamidi Apapa, Abayomi Arabambi, disclosed that he planned to address the ruling at a press conference.

As of the time the report was filed, he had not been contacted.

Children’s Day: Government Cancels May 2023 Sanitation Exercise

The Anambra State Government has made the decision to cancel the monthly sanitation exercise for May 2023, according to a statement released by Mr. Mike Ozoemena, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA). The cancellation comes as an effort to allow the children of Anambra State to participate in the annual Children’s Day celebration, which coincides with the scheduled date of the sanitation exercise.

Traditionally held on the last Saturday of every month, the sanitation exercise aims to promote cleanliness and ensure the proper disposal of waste in the state. However, in a bid to prioritize the involvement of children in the nationwide Children’s Day celebration, the state government has decided to forgo the sanitation exercise for May.

Children’s Day, celebrated across Nigeria on May 27th each year, provides an opportunity to honor and appreciate the nation’s younger generation. By canceling the sanitation exercise, the government aims to create an inclusive environment where children can actively participate in the festivities alongside their peers from other states.

While the official sanitation exercise will not take place, residents of Anambra State are encouraged to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings. They are advised to engage in personal efforts such as cleaning their immediate environment, clearing water channels, and properly packaging their waste for collection by the state’s waste management contractors. This approach ensures that despite the cancellation of the formal exercise, the state remains clean and well-managed.

The decision by the Anambra State Government reflects its commitment to prioritizing the well-being and participation of its young residents. By allowing children to fully engage in Children’s Day celebrations, the government sends a message of inclusivity and recognition of the importance of youth in the community.

As the cancellation takes effect, residents are reminded of their individual responsibilities to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards. By actively contributing to the cleanliness of their surroundings, residents can support the government’s efforts to create a healthier and more sustainable environment for all.

As Anambra State prepares to celebrate Children’s Day, the cancellation of the May 2023 sanitation exercise serves as a reminder of the government’s dedication to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community, where the well-being and happiness of its youngest members are valued and celebrated.

Okpe Oil-Producing Communities Demand Equity and Inclusion in DESOPADEC Leadership and Urge the Government to Act Now

    By  Sanco Ese

The Okpe Oil-Producing Communities, known for their rich oil and gas reserves in Delta Central, have been vocal about the need for fair representation and equitable distribution of resources. Despite being the largest oil and gas producer in the region, Okpe communities have faced marginalisation and exclusion when it comes to leadership positions within the Delta State Oil-Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC). This situation has ignited fervent agitation from the Okpe people, who argue that their demands for justice and equal opportunities should not be seen as confrontational but rather as a quest for a more inclusive society.

Okpe Language must Not be allowed to go into Extinction ; Okpe Union NEC

Why Okpe People will Continue To Kick Against The Oppressive Implementation of Laws Governing DESOPADEC and Other Multinational Oil Companies

Okpe, Ndokwa, and Ika communities are prominent oil-producing areas within Delta State. The Okpe Oil-Producing Communities firmly believe that they contribute significantly more to oil and gas production in Delta Central compared to their counterparts in Delta North. While they acknowledge the importance of providing multiple commissioners, executive directors, and board members to other oil-producing ethnic groups, the Okpe people are disheartened by their exclusion from key positions of authority within DESOPADEC.

Read Also Supreme Court dismisses PDP’s suit against Tinubu, Shettima’s ticket

One of the major grievances expressed by the Okpe Oil-Producing Communities is the absence of a managing director, chairman, or executive director from their ranks since the establishment of DESOPADEC. Despite their undeniable contributions to the economic growth of the region, the Okpe people feel overlooked, marginalised, and deprived of their fair share of leadership positions. This perception has bred discontent and a sense of injustice within the community.

Regrettably, the Okpe Oil-Producing Communities’ pursuit of fairness and representation has been met with resistance and criticism from some quarters. Those opposed to their demands accuse them of attempting to disrupt the existing peace and unity in the region. This accusation has only fueled the determination of the Okpe people to fight for their rights and reject subjugation, oppression, and tyranny.

To the Okpe Oil-Producing Communities, the struggle for justice is an essential aspect of their identity and collective consciousness. They firmly believe that peace is not merely the absence of war but also the presence of justice. Their demands for equal rights and privileges in the distribution of resources are an expression of their longing for a society where all individuals, regardless of their background, have an equal stake in the socio-political and economic fabric of the community.

The Okpe people maintain that their quest for fairness and inclusion is not a direct challenge to the political class or an attempt to undermine the existing order. Rather, it is an assertion of their fundamental rights and a call for the establishment of a just and equitable society. They refuse to be silenced and are determined to voice their dissent until their demands are met.

It is evident that the Okpe Oil-Producing Communities’ struggle for justice and equality resonates deeply with its members. They draw inspiration from historical narratives of deliverance and hope for a future where their voices will be heard and their rights acknowledged.

As the agitation for justice continues, only time will reveal the outcome of this struggle. The Okpe people firmly believe that, just as the children of Israel were delivered from the tyranny of Pharaoh, their own deliverance will come, guided by divine intervention and steadfast determination.

The Okpe Oil-Producing Communities’ demands for equal opportunities and representation in DESOPADEC highlight their unwavering commitment to justice and inclusivity. Their struggle symbolises the resilience of a people who refuse to accept subjugation and marginalisation. The path to a harmonious society lies in addressing these grievances and creating a platform for dialogue and meaningful change. I therefore call on the Delta state government to act now.
