G-5 Vs Atiku: They Will See More Problem, I Dare Atiku To Suspend Us — Governor Wike Blows Hot

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has dared the leaders of the PDP to sanction the G-5 governors if they believe they are capable of carrying out that action against them. Governor Wike, who had said in most of his interviews that the G-5 governors’ battle is for fairness, equity, and justice. He has reinstated that the people intending to suspend them lack the moral capacity to sanction them.

The Governor of Rivers state, speaking through his commissioner for Information and Communications, has identified that the G-5 governors are not scared of being suspended by the party. He argued that the party itself knew the consequence of that damning action, but he equally dared them to go on with it and see how things would escalate.

He said, ”Let them be the ones that will say what the outcome will be. Being afraid of suspension is not in our dictionary at all. Let those who think they want to suspend Governor Wike and others attempt it. That means they want to plant a wind. They will reap a whirlwind.”

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that Akin Osuntokun, the newly-appointed Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), remains the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) senatorial candidate for Ekiti central in Ekiti State. This comes with only 57 days left until the general election in 2023.

JUST IN: Crisis hits G5 Governors as Wike walks out Angrily on Ikpeazu, Ortom in London

The G5 Governors, also known as the disgruntled governors elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, are currently involved in a crisis over the party’s selection of a presidential candidate.

The governors of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu; Benue State, Samuel Ortom; and Enugu State, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, are the members of the G5.

Until Iyorchia Ayu steps down from his position as the PDP’s national chairman, the governors have stated that they would not officially endorse Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, the face of the G5 Governors, “angrily” left the United Kingdom (UK) for Madrid, Spain, to watch Real Madrid’s match this weekend after the lengthy strategic meetings in London with the opposition.

This online newspaper learned that Ikpeazu and Ortom advised them to remain impartial because backing a candidate other than the one of their party would spell their demise in the PDP.

Remember that the PDP is running Ikpeazu and Ortom for the senatorial seats representing the Benue North-West and Abia South districts, respectively.

Their chances of running in the 2023 election will be ruined by a suspension or expulsion for anti-party behaviour.

According to a dependable source, Makinde and Wike agreed that they should support Bola Ahmed Tinubu for president of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but Ikpeazu and Ortom had different opinions.

While Wike has no immediate political interest outside of supporting his allies in Rivers state, Ortom, Ikpeazu, and Ugwuanyi are running for senator in their respective states.

    2. Adding flavour to meat

The detrimental effects of eating processed meats on eyesight and overall health are widely recognised.

I am referring to high-sodium processed lunch meats like cooked ham, bacon, and sausages.

Despite the fact that salt has been used as a preservative for centuries, it is now routinely and excessively added to food, which is detrimental to your eyesight and overall health.

Your body will not appreciate it, despite the fact that fried foods are delicious, if you fill your plate with them on a regular basis.

BREAKING: G5 Governors Demand Tinubu support in five states, may dump PDP for APC

BREAKING: G5 Governors Demand Tinubu support in five states, may dump PDP for APC

The five aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party governors have demanded the support of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, for the PDP governorship and senatorial candidates in their respective states.

It was gathered on Thursday that this was part of the conditions presented to Tinubu during his meeting with the PDP governors in London, United Kingdom, on Tuesday.

In attendance at the meeting were Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu states.

The governors alongside Donald Duke, Jonah Jang, Olusegun Mimiko, former governors of Cross River, Ondo and Plateau states, respectively, as well as a Board of Trustees member, Chief Bode George, are defiant in their call for the removal of Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the party.

A reliable source disclosed that the five governors were concerned about their political careers and sought assurances from Tinubu.

Though Wike is not contesting for any position in the 2023 elections, he was said to be concerned about his protégé, Siminalayi Fubara, who is the Rivers State PDP governorship candidate and the PDP senatorial candidates in the state.

On the other hand, Makinde is running for a second term while Ortom will be contesting as the Benue North-West Senatorial District candidate in the polls.

Also, Ikpeazu is the PDP candidate for Abia South Senatorial District and Ugwuanyi is running for the Enugu North Senatorial District.

However, there are different accounts of the final decisions of both the governors and Tinubu on the demand.

A source close to Tinubu told Ejesgist.ng that a final agreement could not be reached as a result of the ‘complex demands’ by the governors.

According to him, the PDP governors made an overture to Tinubu to guarantee both the senatorial and governorship seats in their states, a demand the former Lagos State governor could not grant immediately as he needed to consult with his advisers and loyalists.

The APC chieftain confided in our correspondent that Tinubu may not be willing to concede to the demand with less than two months to the 2023 elections.

He said, “The G-5 governors do not hold the four aces. As it stands, they are actually seeking shelter. The major hitch we have is that all the members of the G-5 demanded for the governorship and senatorial seats in exchange for the big prize.

“Now, the question is, how are going to throw our people in Rivers, Plateau and Benue under the bus? I am worried about Benue, where we have low-hanging fruits. Of course, it is obvious we are set to win Benue with Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, who we are sure will sweep the governorship poll.

    Makinde’s issue

“There is also the APC governorship candidate (Teslim) Folarin who is prominent in Oyo. These are complex situations we are still grappling with and I can tell you that is where we are. The PDP governors are astute people who are very good in politics.’’

The source also noted that there were increasing pressures on the APC presidential candidate to call the bluff of the Integrity Group by not conceding any positions to them.

Except for Rivers, the party chieftain said it had been projected that Benue and Oyo would fall because of the volume of mobilisation campaigns that had been carried out in the two states.

“Whether Makinde likes it or not, Oyo will fall. Abia has never been our ground. We also lost in Enugu and Benue in 2019 where we failed to get 25 per cent. Yet, we still won the presidency.

“I can tell you without Ortom, we have a very good chance of winning Benue in 2023 with Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia. But we know Rivers State is where we are very vulnerable and may need Wike to push up. These are the five states that we lost yet won the presidential election in 2019.

“The truth, however, remains that Asiwaju knows that these five states are not the tipping points to win. It is just to make his victory double sure that we have to pitch tent with them. But as I told you, they are not in a position to stamp their feet, draw the line and impose conditions on Asiwaju. Their support is inevitable because these governors really have nowhere else to go,” he said confidently.

On whether there is a chance Tinubu might meet the group again in January before they announce their preferred candidate, the politician disclosed that the negotiation had not ended.

    Tinubu’s plan

He said, “It is an ongoing conversation. The point is that Asiwaju must carry the people (candidates) within those states along with our internal structures. Asiwaju must consider these factors before opting for a pyrrhic victory. He will talk to other leaders of our party.”

But a source in the PDP governors’ camp confirmed the demand they placed before Tinubu. He, however, said that a decision had been taken regarding the governors’ support for the APC standard bearer.

Agreements have been reached and decisions have been taken. The announcement will be made in January. The people will be informed on the decisions that have been made,” he said.

On his part, the Media Director of the Tinubu-Shettima presidential campaign council, Bayo Onanuga, declined comments on the issue.

Onanuga stated that aside from knowing that the governors were backing his principal, he had no idea about their alleged conditions.

“I don’t want to speculate on this issue. I don’t know what was discussed. But I know that the G-5 governors are backing Bola Tinubu. I can’t go further than that.

“After all, the governors said they will announce their preferred candidate in January. Why not wait for them?” he stated.

    Govs’ offer positive’

Also, a presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, in a tweet on Thursday, stated, “The offer put forward by the five governors was fantastically positive. That will definitely help us seal our victory. Let us do it together.”

The spokesman for the Tinubu-Shettima presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo, also shied away from discussing the G-5 demands.

Instead, he blamed the leadership of the PDP for the woes in the party.

Keyamo disclosed that he had always known long before now that collapsing the zoning process to accommodate the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would lead to the implosion of the party.

He stated, “The PDP has turned to a caricature that people now laugh at. We always knew the PDP implosion will come even before the primaries. We were waiting for it to happen.

“When it was very obvious to zone the presidency to the South, the PDP was too scared to take the bold step. Whereas, this same thing could have happened to us if the Northern APC governors had not risen to the challenge boldly and zoned the presidency to the South.

“Even when the ruling party was dilly-dallying on the issue, the governors took the bull by the horn and zoned it to save the APC from this kind of implosion the PDP is having. This is what they should have done. They actually met and agreed the presidency should come to the South in Asaba but (Delta State governor, Ifeanyi) Okowa stabbed them in the back.’’

Meanwhile, there are indications that the aggrieved PDP governors would arrive in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Friday (today) after their meeting with Tinubu in the UK.

Ejesgist.ng gathered that they equally met with a former Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who has been in detention in London for alleged involvement in an attempted organ harvesting since June.

A close aide of one of the governors dismissed the threat by the PDP leadership to sanction the governors, saying they did nothing wrong to warrant the invocation of relevant provisions of the party constitution on the discipline of members.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity stated, “They will brief the press tomorrow (today) as soon as they arrive in Port Harcourt. They may speak on their preferred candidate of course but their stand is that the party cannot sanction them because they have not done anything wrong.

‘’As it is, they believe they are championing a cause backed by the PDP constitution in matters of fairness and equity. So, their argument is that they are on track in demanding that after eight years of Presidency in the North; the South should be supported to have a shot at it.’’

In his reaction, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba told Newsmen that the PDP would not address the issue until the governors speak on their preferred candidate, saying, “Ours is a party of order and rules. Until we get to the bridge, we won’t cross it.”

On his part, the immediate past National Secretary of the party and member of NEC, Ibrahim Tsauri said the leadership of the party would act at the appropriate time.

Pele: 7 Ultimate Reasons The Brazil Legend “Is The Greatest Of All Time”

7 Ultimate Reason The Brazilian Legend, Pele Is The Greatest Of All Time

Pele won the World Cup three times with his country - in 1958, 1962 and 1970

Whenever there is a debate about who the greatest player of all time is, there is one name that is always mentioned: Pele.

The Brazilian won three World Cups, the first at age 17 and the last in 1970 as the talisman of arguably the greatest team ever.

He scored over 1,200 goals in his career and was the protagonist of some of the most revered and replayed moments in the history of football.

However, few will have had the pleasure of seeing him kick a ball live.

Following his death at the age of 82, BBC Sport has chosen seven of Pele’s most memorable moments to illustrate what made the Brazilian so exceptional.

A hat-trick in his first World Cup

After making his professional debut for Santos at the age of 16, Pele was chosen to represent Brazil in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden at the age of 17. He would belie his inexperience in a remarkable manner.

In the semi-finals, he scored a hat-trick in the second half to defeat France 5-2. His first goal of the tournament, a 1-0 quarter-final victory over Wales, was merely a prelude to what was to come.

    Performing on the biggest stage

But he was not yet done in Sweden.

The first was a brilliant volleyed finish following a sublime chip over a defender, and the second was a deflected header. It contributed to another 5-2 victory that gave his country its first World Cup victory.

He wrote in his autobiography about his World Cup victory: “It was indescribable, and I desired to experience it again. And again.”

Pele was the first player to score a goal from the half-way line on the grandest of stages.

In the 1970 World Cup group match against Czechoslovakia, when the score was 1-1, he spotted goalkeeper Ivo Viktor off his line and unleashed a wild shot from inside his own half that sailed inches wide.

After what would turn out to be a 4-1 victory for Brazil, he admitted that the effort was premeditated, having observed that European goalkeepers had a tendency to wander off their line. His only regret was not saving it for a more distinguished opponent.

    A stunning set-piece

Brazil faced Romania in the final group match of their 1970 World Cup campaign.

Pele would score twice in the game, with the first goal coming from a fiercely struck free kick that rendered the poor goalkeeper Stere Adamache helpless in his goalmouth.

    The dummy against Uruguay

Later in the 1970 tournament, Brazil faced Uruguay in the quarterfinals. It would be another masterclass by Pele.

He did not score in the game, but he came extremely close thanks to a shot made possible by an outrageous bit of improvisation.

Tostao’s through ball to Pele in stoppage time drew out Uruguay goalkeeper Ladislao Mazurkiewicz, but instead of taking it around him, Pele dummied, allowing the ball to run past him and his opponent.

Pele’s shot rolled agonisingly wide after he was forced to shoot first-time by a defender who had retreated.

    Pele’s outrageous dummy against Uruguay

    A tale of two leaps

Pele and his team, having reached the final of the 1970 World Cup, were not about to let the chance to win an unprecedented third World Cup slip away.

The forward opened the scoring in a one-sided final against Italy by leaping above defender Tarcisio Burgnich to head in the game’s first goal and then leaping into the arms of Jairzinho in one of the most iconic celebrations of all time…

    The greatest World Cup goal?

In the 1970 World Cup final, Pele assisted on one of the greatest goals ever scored on the international stage.

The final with Italy was already over at 3-1, but Brazil saved their best for last – a true team goal that swept across the field, culminating in Pele nonchalantly laying off the ball with perfect weight for Carlos Alberto to lash it first time into the far corner of the net…

New naira notes: Senate urges CBN to shift deadline to June 30

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was urged by the Senate yesterday to push back from January 31, 2023, to June 30, the deadline for removing old naira notes from circulation.

The CBN had previously proposed withdrawing the old notes from circulation from December 15, 2022, to January 31, 2023, when they would no longer be legal tender. The N1,000, N500, and N200 notes would be redesigned in new colours.

However, the Senate urged the apex bank to extend the deadline to June 30, 2019, in response to a motion sponsored by Senator Ali Ndume (APC – Borno South).

Ndume pointed out that the timing of the Naira redesign policy was incorrect and that since the beginning of the implementation of the policy, the new notes are not in circulation even in cities, let alone villages, in his lead debate on the motion, entitled: “Urgent need to extend the withdrawal of old currency from circulation.”

“Senate notes that many Nigerian banks will open their vaults to customers and depositors on Thursday, December 15, 2022, so they can exchange their old naira notes for the newly redesigned currency, which has a deadline of January 31, 2023,” Ndume said.

We are aware that some Nigerians are already anticipating a rush and lengthy lines in banking facilities across the nation as a result of people attempting to obtain the new naira notes, which President Muhammadu Buhari unveiled last month at a brief ceremony at the State House in Abuja.

It is anticipated that many Nigerian businesses will begin to reject the old notes as soon as the banks begin dispensing the redesigned notes to customers, despite the fact that the old notes are anticipated to coexist in circulation with the new ones until January 31, 2023, when they are anticipated to be phased out.

New naira notes scarcity looms in banks

Despite Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) assurances that the new Naira notes would flood the banks, a cross-section of Enugu residents has complained about the rationalisation of new Naira notes.

Recall that while announcing the policy of the redesigned Naira note, the apex bank promised that the newly redesigned Naira notes would be available in large quantities in commercial banks by December 15.

A correspondent for the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who visited several commercial banks in Enugu on Thursday observed that the majority of customers were only given two pieces of the new Naira note when withdrawing cash.

NAN observed that instead of issuing the new Naira notes, banks continue to issue bundles of “so worn out” and “some even sellotaped” old notes.

Mr Cyril Madueke, a customer of a new generation bank along Zik Avenue, said that he came to the bank to drop his old notes and make some fresh withdrawals, “but to my surprise, I was still given the old notes”.

“This is not what the apex bank initially stated, as I was under the impression that I would be saying goodbye to the old naira notes today.”

“However, I am returning home with the same old banknote,” said Madueke.

Mr. Jude Nweke, an additional customer of an old generation bank in Enugu, stated that for the two times he withdrew money since December 15, “only two new Naira Currency were issued to me.”

“It is regrettable that only two pieces of the new naira notes were given to each customer to ‘top and garnish’ the bundle of old N1,000 notes that the bank had issued to them.

Nweke stated, “I was informed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that people will begin receiving the newly redesigned Naira notes on December 15 and that this date will mark the end of the issuance of old notes by banks.”

Mr. Mike Onyeka, a trader from Enugu, urged the central bank and commercial banks to be “certain and specific” about their intentions and consistent with the information they share with the public.

Onyeka stated, “We enthusiastically welcomed the new Naira redesign policy of the CBN.”

We wish policymakers and implementers would adhere to the original plans and information disseminated to the public based on those plans.

In recent years, he had been suffering from kidney and prostate issues.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele, became a global icon in 1958 when, at the age of 17, he helped Brazil win the World Cup in Sweden by forcing his way into the starting lineup in the knockout rounds.

He scored the only goal in a 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Wales, a hat-trick against France in the semi-final, and two goals in a 5-2 final victory over the hosts.

    What made Pele great
Scored a reported 1,281 goals in 1,363 games Made 14 appearances at World Cup finals, scoring 12 goals
Racked up 126 goals in 1959 alone Only player to win three World Cups

Two years earlier, at the age of 15, Pele made his debut for Santos, scoring seven goals in a 7-1 victory over Corinthians de Santo Andre.

It was the first of 643 goals he would score for the club in official competitions over the course of 19 years, although Santos claim the total is over 1,000 when exhibition matches – often against high-profile European opponents – are included.

Pele, then 21 years old, opened the 1962 World Cup with a brilliant individual goal in a 2-0 victory over Mexico. However, he was injured in the next match and was forced to watch his team defend their title from the sidelines.

The last of his three World Cup victories was the most iconic. After being disqualified from the 1966 tournament in England due to a foul, he was the pivot of an exciting attacking team that won the championship in 1970, scoring the opening goal in a 4-1 victory over Italy in the final.

Endorse ‘The Devil‘ You Know — Senator Shehu Sani Tells G-5 Governors

Former senator Shehu Sani has offered a recommendation as Nigerians wait for the G5 governors, led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, to make a decision on which presidential candidate to endorse.

Sani stated that the governors of the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, should support the “devil” they are familiar with.

The Wike-led faction opposes Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential nominee, due to the party’s zoning structure.

The group, which has refused to campaign for Atiku, said the North can’t produce the presidential flagbearer and the national chairman.

The G-5 group comprising governors from Benue, Oyo, Enugu, Abia, and Rivers State demanded the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as PDP National Chairman.

Wike, who became aggrieved after losing to Atiku, said the G-5 wants the position of the party’s National Chairman zoned to the Southern part of the country.

However, Sani, in a tweet, wrote: “G-5 Governors should endorse ‘the devil’ they know and not…

“The nation is blessed with presidential candidates with democratic credentials and history of tolerance to political criticism, political opposition and political dissent. We don’t need an autocrat allergic and hostile to different opinions.”

We’re in London to see Ekweremadu — G-5 Governors Deny Having Meeting With Tinubu

Contrary to rumors regarding the purpose of the trip taken by Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, and his four disgruntled colleagues, the group is primarily in London to meet with Ike Ekwerenmadu, a former deputy president of the Senate.

PDP moves to expel G-5 Governors, dissolve party structures in their States

Late on Wednesday, a source with knowledge of the situation informed Ejesgist.ng that the G-5 Governors were fully aware of the concern in the political community regarding what they were doing.

The typically trustworthy source added, “The G-5 are not inexperienced political administrations or politicians.

“They read what is currently trending on twitter speculating on the reason for their latest trip to London and just had a laugh.

“The trip is mainly to reach out to the Ekwerenmadu’s in their hour of need.

“The Enugu State Governor for one is personally concerned about the wellbeing of the former DSP so are his colleagues.

“On the issue of the stand of the governors on their preferred candidate for the 2023 Presidential election, the word is just like our leader, Governor Wike has said ‘wait.’

“Nigerians should give a little time consultations are ongoing the governors are on the same page, they will soon speak with one voice.”

Speculations have been rife that the G-5 governors were in London to take a final decision on who to support for the 2023 presidential race after announcing there will be no deal with the PDP unless the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu resigns.

Wike and his counterparts: Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), have stuck to their guns despite entreaties by party elders and leaders including the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar urging them to sheath their swords.

PDP moves to expel G-5 Governors, dissolve party structures in their States

PDP moves to expel G-5 Governors, dissolve party structures in their States

If members of the G-5 Governors, which includes Mr. Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers State, Seyi Makinde, Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, governor of Enugu, and Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia, decide to publicly support a candidate other than Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may decide to expel them. Atiku is the PDP presidential candidate.

The dissolution of the party structures in the respective states of the G-5 governors, also known as the “Integrity Group,” and the establishment of caretaker committees to manage the party’s affairs in the five states are other measures being considered by the leadership of the main opposition party, according to a reliable source who is a member of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council and who made this disclosure to Ejesgist.ng yesterday.

The source, who begged to remain anonymous, claimed that taking such action would also have an impact on Makinde’s political ambitions, as well as those of Okezie, Ortom, and Ikpeazu, who are all running for senatorial seats in their respective states and Makinde, who is seeking reelection as governor.

“Dissolving the party structure will also affect their loyalists who are contesting for different positions under the PDP in Abia, Rivers, Oyo, Benue and Enugu,” the source added.

The governors elected on the platform of the PDP had in what many had described as another jamboree, and on Monday, they travelled to the United Kingdom for another strategic meeting.

The governors led by Wike have been calling for the resignation of the PDP’s National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, as their minimum condition for peace in the party and to join the presidential campaign council of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku. Wike has refused to accept his defeat at the party’s presidential primary in good faith.

Since he lost the primary and even the vice presidential slot, Wike has utilised the enormous resources at his disposal to mobilise four other governors to fabricate crisis in the party.

The aggrieved governors have been working against their party for months since Wike failed to clinch the vice presidential running mate to Atiku Abubakar. They have been insisting that Iyorcha Ayu, the national chairman of their party, must quit for a Southerner to take his place, stating that it was the irreducible minimum for peace to reign in the party.

Wike had specifically boasted that Atiku would not win the election if he and his allies do not support his presidential ambition. Top on the agenda for their meeting in London is who they would support for president in the 2023 election.

Ejesgist.ng had earlier reported that by any last-minute change in political permutations, the group may have concluded plans to endorse Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

Obi, with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, and four of the G5 governors met in London last August.

Last week, Wike said he would reveal the presidential candidate to mobilise votes for in the forthcoming 2023 general elections in January.

Many have urged the party to move against Wike and his group by expelling them for unpardonable anti party activities, but the party has reframed from taking such actions. But the more the party tolerated the excesses of the governors, the more emboldened they have become. Governor Wike, in particular, has been boastful about his his capacity to do damage to the party. Just recently, he shorted down Atiku’s campaign office in Port Harcourt.
