    • Abuja-Kaduna Train Service Won’t Resume Today– Minister

The Abuja-Kaduna train service will not resume today as originally planned, according to the minister of transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo.

The comes on hours after it was revealed that the Abuja-Kaduna Train would resume operations today.

    When is Abuja-Kaduna Train resuming?

The resumption will be delayed by one week, according to the minister, who made this announcement while riding an inspection train from Abuja to Kaduna yesterday.

This will give the passengers more time to learn about the new method for buying tickets and other requirements.

The line is fully secured and prepared for operation, the minister added, but due to the new ticketing requirements, a brief extension of time may be necessary, possibly by a few days or even a few weeks.

He stated, “I want to be very clear about this: We have not stated that the train services will begin on Monday,” so it is unclear if they will or won’t.

Before you purchase a ticket, we now have a new system in place. You must profile yourself by giving a phone number and a national identification number when purchasing a ticket because that is where the security checks start.

So, whenever a train moves from one station to another, we always know who is on board.

You cannot board our train if you do not have a NIN. That is how easy it is. If you are a minor, an adult must pay for you and register you; additionally, an adult may only register up to four minors at a time.

“Now, we want to provide enough time for the Nigerian people to hear these and adapt to this new system? Because a lot of people will be upset if we start on Monday.

  • Wife of Popular Nigerian Governor Arrested In Dubai For Money Laundering

Wife of Nigerian Governor has been arrested in Dubai

A female journalist, Abimbola Olajumoke Olawumi, has said her life is in danger over a story she published on social media involving Bisi Fayemi, wife of the immediate past governor of Ekiti State.

Olawunmi had published on Facebook an alleged case of money laundering involving Fayemi in Dubai in 2018.

According to the journalist, the former first lady was allegedly arrested in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and the case was covered up.

Speaking to Ejesgist.ng, Olawunmi claimed she has been receiving calls from strange numbers and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) who were also detailed to get her arrested by all means.

READ ALSO: Tension in Osun State As Governor Ademola Adeleke Orders Security To Take Over Palaces

“I’m currently being harassed, intimidated and threatened by the former governor of my state: Dr. Kayode Fayemi, his wife; Bisi Adeleye Fayemi and their brother-in-law; Demola Obanise.

“I have been receiving calls from strange numbers and even the Department of State Services, DSS, has also been detailed to get me arrested by all means, because I recently published on social media, a case of money laundering, involving Bisi Adeleye Fayemi, the wife of the former governor, in Dubai, in 2018.

“The case was covered up after she was arrested in Dubai and because they enjoyed immunity, while in office (2018-2022) they could not be prosecuted, for all corruption, money laundering, improper handling of state’s finances, diversion of billions of Naira of public funds, human rights abuses and other criminal activities, which the duo were involved in.

“My crime was being consistent in my criticism of the former governor and his wife, on how they were running the state, since 2018. I received a phone call from one Mr. Williams from the Department of State Services (DSS) on 15th November, 2022, asking me to report to their office as regards a petition brought to their office by one Demola Obanise (Kayode Fayemi’s brother-in-law).

“Since then, my mobile line is being tracked and I’m being trailed by hoodlums and hired thugs, to which I no longer feel safe in my state and using my mobile lines has become a problem.

“Recently, former Governor Fayemi mobilised security agencies and some disgruntled members to impeach a democratically elected Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan. As a journalist, I again raised my voice against the illegality. This and a number of other human rights abuses are things I have always been speaking against; that is why I am now being hounded by agents of the former governor.

“I, therefore, call on Amnesty International to investigate these allegations, come to my aid and ensure that me and my family are protected against Kayode Fayemi, his wife, Bisi Fayemi, and Demola Obanise. Amnesty International should also ensure that they are prosecuted for their corruption, illegalities, flagrant abuse of office, human rights abuses, harassment, intimidation and threat to my life.

“This plea became necessary because the security agencies in my country, Nigeria, are compromised. They will exonerate the guilty because of their statuses and will rather punish the innocent for challenging corruption, illegalities and criminalities.”

Tinubu has been told to honourably withdraw from the presidential election

The group made the call via a statement signed by the group’s Deputy Director of Communications, Emmanuel Adesuji, in Lagos.

Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress has been told to voluntarily withdraw from the presidential race to avoid embarrassment over his alleged drug-related offences in the United States of America, and perjury case filed against him at a High Court in Abuja.

Peter Obi Support Network, POSN made the call via a statement signed by the group’s Deputy Director of Communications, Emmanuel Adesuji, in Lagos.

READ ALSO:Again, Tinubu goofs, says Omo-Agege will be ‘Niger Delta State’ Governor

The statement said that Tinubu’s alleged drug dealing, which was extensively explained in a report titled, “Bola Ahmed Tinubu: From Drug Lord to Presidential Candidate,” published in the West Africa Weekly, was a result of months of collaboration between a legal practitioner, Mike Enahoro-Ebah, and the Chicago law firm, Leahy, Eisenberg & Fraenkel Ltd.

The group further said that there were established discrepancies in some of the information the APC’s presidential candidate supplied to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in his Form EC9.

According to POSN, different dates of birth, failure to provide evidence of attendance of a school that appears on his academic record, failure to disclose secondary citizenship, alleged forgery of a university degree certificate, a potential instance of identity theft and others, were the basis for the legal action filed by Enahoro-Ebah.

“Therefore, we are calling on the APC candidate to honourably withdraw from the election, as there is damning evidence to show his ineligibility to contest the election. He should not wait for any candidate or party to approach the court, because if that happens, it is most likely that the court will order INEC to disqualify him, and that will not be too good. So, he should just step down and go home with his honours,” the group submitted.

Emefiele reveals why Naira will continue to Fall , says one ATM card scheme to start January 16.

    • Godwin Emefiele, CBN governor, blames the naira’s fall on the number of Nigerians studying abroad.
    • He predicted a huge UK visa increase for Nigerians in 2023.
    • Emefiele said the move has greatly strained Nigeria’s foreign reserves and the naira.

Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), attributes the depletion of foreign reserves to the number of Nigerian students seeking education abroad.

According to Emefiele, the official foreign exchange received from crude oil sales into Nigeria’s reserves has steadily decreased from over $3 billion per month in 2014 to zero dollars in 2022.

Nigerian students seeking visas oversees increase

This was something that he discussed during the 57th annual bankers’ dinner that was held in Lagos on November 26, 2022 and was hosted by the Chattered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).

The head of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) stated that the Nigerian foreign exchange market is currently in the midst of a severe crisis, which is placing strain on the reserves and lowering the value of the naira.

According to a report by BusinessDay, market demands for various goods and services have continued to rise despite falling supplies of foreign currency. These demands are being driven by a variety of uses.

The head of Nigeria’s central bank pointed out that the number of student visas issued by the United Kingdom to Nigerians has increased from an annual average of about 8,000 visas in 2020 to almost 66,000 visas in 2022, indicating an eight-fold increase that amounts to $2.5 billion annually in study-related forex outflow to the UK alone. The number of student visas issued to Nigerians by the United Kingdom has increased from an annual average of about 8,000 visas in 2020 to almost 66,000 visas

The RT200, a boost to foreign exchange inflow

According to Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers’ Committee initiated the RT200 scheme in February 2022 due to this issue and the necessity to raise foreign exchange earnings.

He stated that the primary goal of the scheme was to devise an inventive solution to the problem of repatriating the proceeds from exports of goods other than oil.

Emefiele pointed out that the programme brought in approximately $1.6 billion in 2022, which is expected to rise above $2.5 billion by the time this year comes to a close.

    He said:

“Under the rebate scheme of the program, the Bank has reimbursed a total of N78.4 billion naira,” Emefiele said. “I consider this to be a fair price to incur in order to stabilise our foreign exchange market.”

Prior to the launch of the RT200, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) undertook a number of different initiatives to increase the amount of foreign currency that entered Nigeria.

One of these initiatives was the Naira-for-Dollar program, which reflected the efforts of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to increase the amount of money that migrants sent back to their home countries.

    Emefiele said:

“I am happy to note that, so far, the Naira-for-Dollar scheme has been successful in increasing remittance inflows through our registered International Money Transfer Organizations (IMTOs),” the president said. “This brings me great joy.”

National Domestic Card Scheme to start January 2023

According to Emefiele, the National Domestic Card Scheme is anticipated to reduce operating costs for banks that currently bear enormous charges for participating in foreign card schemes. Additionally, it would reduce the huge currency commitments that are associated with initiatives involving foreign credit cards.

The plan is scheduled to get underway on January 16, 2023. In addition, Emefiele mentioned that Nigeria would be joining a growing list of emerging markets and developing economies, such as India, Turkey, China, and Brazil, that have launched the domestic card scheme.

It has been reported that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which is the most powerful bank in Nigeria, along with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), which includes the Bankers Committee, will float a national card scheme to improve the payment system in Nigeria.

Cristiano has always had his attention on the World Cup, as we all know. He chose not to share his choice with me.

This is a personal choice that affects him and his family. We have not discussed it. The World Cup, the national team, and the goal are the only things on everyone’s mind here.
