Another ASUU Strike Looms As Lecturers Issue Fresh Warning Over Half Salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Federal University of Technology Minna, Chapter, has issued warning to the Federal Government not to treat its members as casual workers.

The Chairman of the union, Gbolahan Bolarin, who made this known during a protest in Minna on Friday, described the payment of half salaries to university lecturers as demeaning.

“Our members were paid for the number of days they had worked and this is unfortunate and demeaning to us,” Bolarin said.

“FUT Minna has resolved to reject in totality the reduction of Nigerian scholars to casual workers and attempts by the minister of labor and employment to destroy our public universities under any guise. We will not allow Chris Ngige to ridicule us because Nigerian lecturers are among the best in the world,” he added.

Speaking further, he noted that the half salary paid to lectures was an insult to academia, and Nigeria.

Bolarin said the Federal Government was pushing lecturers to a point where the aggression would be shifted to innocent students, adding that the union would do everything to resist the plans of the government.

Also speaking, the President of the Students Union Government at the university, Shuaib Yahaya, said, “The survival of the Nigerian university system is not only the responsibility of the lecturers but the students and everyone.”

He said the SUG joined the protest to show support for the lectures and was willing to go to any extent to ensure that their lecturers were treated better.

“Whatever decision ASUU takes, we are in support and we will follow them and shut down any place. The government should get ready to kill all of us,” he added.

Meanwhile, lecturers at the Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State, have called for the immediate sack of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige.

Speaking during a demonstration, the Chairman of ASUU in the institution, Adam Abdullahi, said, “The reason for this protest is to tell the Federal Government to sack the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, for his handling of the ASUU strike and the effect of that strike on the Nigerian educational system.

“The protest is also to tell the FG to pay us our withheld salaries. The Minister of Education has also failed. They paid us pro rata and we are not casual workers. Pro rata (payment) is the casualisation of the university workforce, and we are saying no to this.

The government should listen to our demands and grant our requests. The demands that we put on the table before the strike are still on; none of them have been met.

“Anytime it was due for the government to pay, instead of paying, they create an emergency and we are saying no to this. So because of all these, academic activities in the institution will be grounded for today (Friday) and we may continue if nothing is done about our demands.”

One of the students of the university, Muhammed Musa, who spoke on behalf of others, expressed concern about the lingering crisis between the government and ASUU and appealed to the two parties to resolve the issues to enable the students to continue their studies without any hitches.

The group of five include Governors Wike, Makinde of Oyo state, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state. They have been at daggers drawn with the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of reneging on his alleged promise to ensure that if both the party’s standard bearer and National Chairman, now Iyorchia Ayu, emerged from the same region, the chairman would be forced to resign.

The quintet has refused to either endorse or support the campaigns of PDP’s Atiku, maintaining that for peace to return to the opposition party, Ayu must go.But aside backing Makinde’s membership of the group, Ariwoola, joked that Makinde was being held to ransom by Wike by threatening to withdraw his sister (Makinde’s wife), who he said is from the South-south state, from the Oyo governor

“That is why we should not be scared to have these men of the integrity group and I am happy that my own governor is among because he would try to imitate his friend and in-law because we came here to marry for my governor.“So, Governor Wike will always threaten that he will call back his sister if my governor fails to play ball. That is why you see him following his Excellency (Wike) because my governor is afraid of his wife being recalled,” he joked.

The CJN explained that Wike had said it on several occasions that he will continue to inaugurate projects until his last day in office, assuring that the governor was an example that humans can always do better if they set their hearts to do it.While lauding Wike profusely, he maintained that nobody, whether as an individual or as a group has supported the judiciary the way Wike had done since he became governor.

    ‘Jump and Shout’

Jump and Shout, another well-liked song from his “Unconditional Love” album, is partially rendered in the Ghanaian Twi language.

    ‘Naija Praise’

The song is a well-known medley that combines several praise songs from various regions of the nation.

The ninth song on his second studio album, “Addicted,” it was released in 2004.

Okposo, a native of the Delta region of Nigeria, sang in a variety of tribal languages, including Isoko, Urhobo, Edo, Efik, Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo.

    “Welu Welu.”

With this traditional song rewritten in pidgin, Okposo won over many listeners and made a historic entrance into the music business.

Even 20 years after its initial release, the gospel crowd continues to find appeal in the song’s catchy chorus, “Jesus I thank you, wellu wellu.”

His 2000 debut album, “Unconditional Love,” features this song as its opening track.

    ‘Lift Him High’

The song, which is also from his 2004 album, contains a sample of the Maranatha! Gospel group’s 1989 single “Lord I Lift Your Name on High.”

    ‘Na Only You I know’

The track’s solemn tone contrasts with the upbeat tempo of many of Okposo’s songs.

Instead, he sang alongside artists like Kefee, Essence, Ige Samsong, and Soji Israel to show off his vocal range.

The ninth track on his 2006 album, “No more Drama,” is “Na Only You I Know.”

How Nnamdi Kanu Prophesied about the Oil Well in the North

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have explained the fulfilment of a prophecy made by their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, regarding the discovery of oil in the North.

Speaking on Friday, the group claimed that a prophecy made by its beleaguered leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was confirmed by the recent flag-off of crude oil and gas production from the Kolmani Integrated Development Project in the country’s north.

Recall that on November 22, 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari oversaw the nation’s first oil field drilling at Gombe and Bauchi.

The Upper Benue Trough’s Gongola Basin, which is shared by the two northern states, is where the Kolmani Oil Prospecting Licences 809 and 810 are located.

However, in a statement released on Friday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB claimed that Kanu’s prophecy had been validated by the discovery and launch of the oil exploration.

The group that was outlawed claimed that with the discovery of oil in the North, the Nigerian government should authorize the actualization of Biafra.

He declared: “We, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) global movement and family, under the command and leadership of our great leader and prophet Mazi Nnamdi KANU, confirm the fulfilment of our leader’s prayers regarding oil discovery in the North.

He prayed for God Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama to grant crude oil to the Northern Region of Nigeria in one of his historic broadcasts on Radio Biafra.

Large deposits of numerous solid minerals, many of which are more profitable than crude oil, are found in northern Nigeria.

But because of the oil in Biafraland, they are willing to do unthinkable things due to their thirst for it and their avaricious nature to conquer others. God Almighty Eze Chukwu Okike has resolved the age-old issue of unity that was brought on by crude oil in his infinite wisdom.

If they are sincere in resolving Nigeria’s issue, the discovery of crude oil in the North will undoubtedly end this forced unity. Biafrans have no interest in oil, either.

Powerful continued to argue that all they required was a favourable environment so they could conduct their business without worry about terrorists guarding the nation’s borders.

The IPOB spokesman said, “Can we all go our separate ways and mind our own businesses now that every component part of Nigeria has oil?”

How Sammie Okposo Narrowly Escaped Death Two Years Ago

Sammie Okposo: Fans were shocked and saddened by Sammie Okposo’s recent death, a well-known gospel singer.

However, the well-known gospel performer who collapsed and passed away on Friday, November 25, after having a heart attack, seemed to be on the verge of dying.

The music star from Delta State nearly perished two years ago when his car’s propeller shaft detached while it was moving across Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge.

Okposo assured his followers that everything was fine and that the evil ones’ plot had failed yet again.

This is something to brag about and testify of the miracle-working power of God; I have a very BIG God who is always by my side to deliver me, he wrote.

“I was not going to post this because I had already thanked, praised, and worshipped God for delivering me from death Saturday, May 16th, 2020,” he wrote.

The propeller shaft of my car pulled off while I was driving, he continued. “The image you see is my car propeller shaft that pulled off while I was in motion just before it happened.

I was doing 100/120 kph on the third mainland bridge connecting to cms and then to surulere my destination as I was driving suddenly I heard a voice “SLOW DOWN” so immediately I reduced my speed to 60kph 10 seconds later from 120kph to 60kph the propeller.

Just consider what might have happened had the voice of God not prompted me to slow down; consider what might have happened if I had been travelling at 120 kph when my car’s propeller shaft disconnected.

“Oh, Jesus, oh, Jesus, oh, Jesus thank you for being my saviour, my deliverer, my protector, my shield, and the reason I am alive and well is because of you.”

The devil and his minions have failed and will continue to fail despite the fact that there is not a scratch, anything missing, or anything broken.

After entering the nation, the multi-award-winning musician passed away in an undisclosed hospital.

One of the most talented ministers in the Nigerian gospel music industry, Okposo recently had a concert at the Logic Church in Lagos and London.

In addition, he runs Zamar Entertainment as CEO and is a music producer.

8 May his days be few; may another take his office.

9 May his children be fatherless, his wife, a widow.

10 May his children wander and beg, driven from their hovels.

11 May the usurer snare all he owns, strangers plunder all he earns.

12 May no one treat him with mercy or pity his fatherless children.

13 May his posterity be destroyed, their name rooted out in the next generation.

14 May his fathers’ guilt be mentioned to the Lord; his mother’s sin not rooted out.

15 May their guilt be always before the Lord, till their memory is banished from the earth,

Crisis Rocks Labour Party as Members seek Dissolution of Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council, Pass vote of no Confidence on National chairman

Labour Party demands dissolution of Peter Obi’s campaign council

The Labour Party (LP) in Ogun State has called for the party’s presidential campaign council to be immediately dissolved, claiming that party leaders from the southern region of Nigeria dominate the council.

The party also adopted a resolution of disapproval for Julius Abure, the Labour Party’s national chairman.

The State Secretary of the LP, Mr. Feyisola Michael, claimed during a press conference in Abeokuta that the PCC was being “southernized” against the interests of the north.

Michael contends that since the National Chairman, Obi, and the LP presidential candidate are both from the South, the North East and the North Central regions should have been granted the director general and general secretary positions currently held by Doyin Okupe and Clement Ojukwu, respectively.

According to him, doing so would reflect fairness and the constitution’s definition of the federal character.

The Ogun State LP’s lawsuit seeking a court order on INEC’s relisting of candidates was also illegally terminated, according to the state chapter of LP, which also accused Abure of this.

According to him, Abure planned to take over the current Federal High Court case from Bar Mawah Monday, the legal adviser for the state of Ogun.

“Accordingly, we have passed a vote of no confidence on Barr. Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the LP, and Chief Clement Ojukwu, the National Organizing Secretary who also serves as the General Secretary of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council rather than the National Secretary.

“We also demand that the National Executive Council meeting be called right away in order to prevent further political unrest because PDP dissidents Clement Ojukwu and Bar Julius Abure have hijacked the party.

In order for the North East, North Central, National Secretary, and Deputy National Chairman South to be able to openly carry out their constitutional roles, he urged the immediate dissolution of the entire Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council.
