    Former Nigerian Minister of Information has been arrested

    Police have reportedly arrested the former Minister of Information and the Zamfara Central senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Ikira Aliyu Bilbis, and others in Zamfara State.

     

    Bilbis was said to have been arrested in Gusau, the state capital, in the early hours of Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

     

    The state secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Zangina, confirmed the arrest pointing out that it may not be unconnected with an allegation by the ruling party, the APC, of vandalizing its billboards and other properties during the reception rally in honour of Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare.

    According to him, a team of PDP lawyers have since been at the police headquarters in Gusau, where he has been determined to know the level of the case and action to be taken.

     

    However, all efforts by newsmen to get comments from the state police spokesman, S P Mohammed Shehu, proved abortive as he did not pick up his calls.

    There was pandemonium in Cross River State as woman slaughtered 11-months-old son

     

    There was pandemonium in Yonen community ,Ugep , Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River following the slaughtering of an 11 months old baby by his mother identified as Mrs. Blessing Eno who claimed she was sent to do so by a “Spirit”.

     

    The tragic incident which occured Tuesday has left many in the community bewildered as the circumstances leading to the dastardly act has remained strange.

    Checks by Ejesgist.ng showed mother of two who may be suffering from Schizophrenia (Mental Disorder) took out a matchet and cut off the head of the baby, claiming that the child was disturbing her and a spirit instructed her to slaughter the boy.

     

    An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity disclosed that it was her eight year old son who stumbled on the gory sight of his headless brother and a blood drenched mother who raised the alarm that attracted neighbours to the scene of the crime.

     

    However, the timely intervention of the police, who immidiately took the lady into protective custody, before ferrying her out of Ugep averted an angry mob from extra judicially killing her at the station.

    Meanwhile, the Obol Lopon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr LGA, HRM. Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng, has expressed shock over the tragic incident while calling for calm.

     

    The Monarch also, assured the people that he was certain that the police will handle the matter professionally to a logical conclusion.

     

     

    He said :” I had to immediately convene a meeting with my subjects because even though what happened has desecrated the land, I had to ensure that further bloodshed was averted.

     

    “We appealed directly to young people in Ugep, to tow the path of peace and rational thought in the face of this heinous crime and they positively responded.

     

    “We are in shock but we are calm and have left this matter in the hands of the police, I can assure you that there will be no reprisal action because we must remain law abiding,” he said .

     

     

    When contacted , the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident, adding that it was a homicide case and the matter was being transferred to State CID , Homicide department for onward investigation.

     

     

     

     

    “I learned about the matter yesterday ( Tuesday) , you know it’s a homicide case, it will be transferred from Ugep to state CID, Homicide department for further investigation.

     

    ” it is quite unfortunate and devastating, already she is in protective custody , but the matter will surely be brought to Calabar,” Ugbo said.

     

    On his part , a Child rights activist and Principal Counsel Basic rights Council Initiative BCRI, James Ibor Esq said there was no doubt the lady in question was mentally unstable.

     

     

    He said when properly examined, her true state of mind would be ascertained.

    A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia has dragged the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike to Court.

    According to reports, Omehia wanted the state government to pay for damages following his derecognition.

    Omehia was de-recognised by Wike as a former governor of the State a few weeks ago for allegedly supporting Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the party.

    This was understood to be against the wish of Wike.

    Wike had in a statement said the derecognition was not political as the State Assembly only realized that recognizing Omehia was a mistake and decided to correct it.

    The student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, was taken from the campus on November 8.

    The 23-year-old is being detained without trial for his Twitter post on the President’s wife.

    “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi” (The mother has got fatter by eating masses’ money), he tweeted in June.

    The undergraduate made the comment four months into the eight-month strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

    Nigerians continue to drag Aisha, the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) over Aminu’s fate.

    Their anger grew after the revelation that her Aide-De-Camp, Usman Shugaba, allegedly coordinated the youth’s arrest and torture.

    Ejesgist.ng reported that Aisha allegedly supervised the beating of Aminu and Zainab Kassim (her former social media aide).

    Meanwhile, the injury the First Lady suffered when she allegedly attempted to throw a kick at either of the duo has worsened.

    She was taken to Cedercrest Hospital last week for medical attention after her leg and hand were fractured after a slip.

    The whereabouts of Aminu and Zainab remain unknown as citizens demand information on their well-being. Some have threatened legal action.

    CBN Speaks on Plan to print N5000 Note

    The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has addressed rumours that it will issue banknotes worth N5000.

    Ahmed Umar, the CBN’s Director of Currency Operations, reportedly clarified that the central bank has no such plans.

    He made this statement during a three-day workshop for business editors and members of the Financial Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN) that was organised by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

    The workshop, which began on Monday in Port Harcourt, has as its theme “Building Depositors Confidence Amidst Emerging Issues and Challenges in the Banking Industry”.

    Umar claimed that the apex bank was not restructuring notes in his speech on “Redesign of the Naira: Benefits to the Financial System and the Nigerian Economy.”

    Because of the commotion, “We are not introducing any new note,” he said. “Some people have seen one N5000 note that we are not aware of.”

    Amina Halidu-Giwa, the head of the bank’s currency operations department’s policy development division, served as Umar’s representative.

    He clarified that the lower denomination notes, such as the N100 note, would need to be coined if the apex bank wanted to implement note restructuring.

    Additionally, he claimed that the apex bank had only printed new notes to replace the currencies that had been withdrawn and had not included any provisions for exchange in the redesigned note.

    “What we print will be extremely constrained because we want to use other methods of transaction settlement.

    “There seems to be an issue because of Nigerians and money. Additionally, it will improve our ability to see and manage the currency.

    We will be able to manage how many banknotes are outside, he added.

    Reports Making rounds claims that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s name is clearly printed on videos of some bundles of the new N5,000 notes that were circulated on WhatsApp shortly after the apex bank announced plans to redesign the N200, N500, and N1,000 notes in October.

    The examination body’s action against the southwest state was deemed unacceptable by the ruling party.

    WAEC delisting of schools for malpractice

    Sadare stated that the party does not agree with the delisting of the schools for their involvement in malpractice during the 2022 WASSCE, noting that the current situation is concerning.

    He continued by stating that the development was unprecedented and a blatant example of the state’s governance system being corrupt.

    He added that this is proof of the bleak future the state faces if something is not done quickly to stop the situation.

    Governor Udom Emmanuel Reveals What PDP Will Do To Wike

    Udom Emmanuel, governor of Akwa Ibom, said “small men” in the PDP will go and prostrate before the big men who are unhappy in the party in order for PDP to win the 2023 elections.

     

    Emmanuel, the chairman of the PDP presidential campaign council, spoke in a recent interview with Ejesgist newspaper.

     

    He admitted that PDP made some mistakes but expressed optimism that the internal wrangling will soon be over.

     

    Emmanual said every vote is important if the PDP must win the 2023 elections.

     

    The governor said: “We are trying to take the right step. That’s why you are asking about a few issues in our party, and I said, of course, we are making progress. We’ll resolve all issues. You can’t let anybody go in an election; every vote matters.

     

    “Every single person is important in politics, not to talk of when you’re talking about very big men. Small men like us will go and prostrate ourselves before them: please oh, big men, don’t let us down. I’m into this game to win. I don’t think anybody will get to this point and be doing permutation. What kind of permutation?

     

    “But they are not unhappy with me as Udom Emmanuel. Did they tell you they were unhappy with the party? Four of them are candidates of the party. They hold tickets of the party. They’re members of the party; you are getting it wrong.

     

    “Even spoons and plates hit themselves and create a lot of noise; that doesn’t mean they’ve broken. It doesn’t mean they’ve broken. I think that is the situation here. For the fact that people are unhappy, it is inevitable, definitely inevitable, with a large party like PDP. It is the largest party in the whole of Africa.

     

     

     

    “So, certainly, we all make mistakes. I must also confess as a party, we’ve made mistakes, and as individuals, we’ve made mistakes. But these mistakes, I can assure you, will not break us. We are trying to come back, review and then reappraise and see how we can move forward, and I can assure you, we’ll do that.”

     

    Emmanuel added that the PDP will win the 2023 elections and that he wouldn’t have been the chairman of the party’s presidential campaign council if he wasn’t sure of victory.

     

    “I say I’m not looking at any permutation. I’m going into this (election) with optimism because if I’m going with permutation, it means I shouldn’t be the chairman of the campaign council. I’m going with optimism. I would not have accepted being the chairman if I was not optimistic that I’m going to win. So, we are in the race to win. There’s no permutation in this case at all,” he said.

     

    Five governors of the PDP led by Nyesom Wike of Rivers have been at the forefront of calls for Iyorchia Ayu to step down as national chairman of the PDP, on the grounds that the presidential candidate and chairman cannot be from the same region.

    Governor Wike has informed that the decision on the presidential candidate to vote in the 2023 general election in the State will soon be made known.

    He said when the decision will be taken, Rivers electorate, who have enjoyed good governance under his watch and already desirous to reciprocate the gesture, will be told which presidential candidate to vote.

    Governor Wike made the position known while inaugurating the Rukpokwu-Rumuapu-Izo-Ogbodo Igwuruta Link Road, which took place in Rumuapu community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area on Tuesday.

    The governor said, for what his administration has done in terms of performance and provision of critical infrastructure, Rivers people are already home with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He then charged the electorate to cast their votes only for PDP gubernatorial candidate as well National Assembly to State Assembly candidates.

    “Then the other one (presidential), I will come and tell you where we will vote. These ones (governorship, Senatorial, Reps and State Assembly candidates) I mentioned now, make sure you come and vote for them. Very soon, we’ll meet in our houses and a take decision where we are going to.”

    Governor Wike mocked governorship candidates of other parties in the State, who he said are not in touch with the people at the grassroot. According to him, these candidates, he stated, do not also have any follower, no traditional or political opinion leaders who can help galvanise the support of the electorate for them.

    Such candidates, governor Wike noted, are only desperately going about collecting money from people in the guise of preparing for election when they know that they are not in the race to win the election.

    Governor Wike said Rivers electorate will vote the party that has come to their aid, supported and made them happy while also sustaining the peace in the State.

    “You will work for a party that has come to your aid, a party that has brought dividends of democracy. If the people of Rukpokwu are not happy, will they be here. Governance is all about the happiness of the people. When the people are happy, we are happy. So, if I come here to address you everybody will listen to me.”

    The Rivers State governor boasted that his administration has attended to every area of development concern in Apara kingdom, particularly on the provision of roads.

    He has therefore, challenged any person within the kingdom in Obio Akpor Local Government Area to dare mention any that has been left unattended.

    On the issue of security, the governor said with the inauguration of the Police Intelligence and Surveillance Centre in Port Harcourt by the Inspector General of Police on Monday, criminals involved in kidnapping will be easily arrested for prosecution.

    “Yesterday (Monday), the Inspector General of Police came and we commissioned the Intelligence and Surveillance Centre. I want to tell all of you who may be thinking of kidnapping. The time is over. As it is now, in that Intelligence Centre, we will be watching you on screen. Anywhere you are on the road we are seeing you. That period is over when you think you will commit a crime and runaway.”

    In his address, Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Dr George-Kelly Dakorinima Alabo stated that the Rukpokwu-Rumuapu-Izo-Ogbodo Igwuruta Link Road connects the Obio-Akpor and Ikwerre Local Government Areas.

    The road, he said, is 7.6km in length, 7.3 meters in width with 7km of drains, which has been delivered in the best quality specified. It has already enhanced the ease of doing business in the area.

    The Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, George Ariolu, who commended the governor for his aggressive infrastructure development, assured him that the people of the council will be fully mobilised to vote for the State PDP candidates in the 2023 general election.

    Adeleke denies sacking 12,000 workers, 3 monarchs

    Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke denied firing 12,000 employees and removing three monarchs from power.

    Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, stated during a talk show programme in Osogbo that Adeleke has neither fired 12,000 employees nor overthrown any monarchs.

    Rasheed states that the hiring decisions made by the Oyetola administration will be examined to ensure due process.

    He claims that no worker or traditional leader was ever fired. We merely established a review panel. It is impossible to fire someone and install a review panel.

    “Among other things, the review panel will consider the qualifications, the number of people who were employed, and the employment’s legal requirements”.

    Prior to us taking over, there were problems with employment that went back as far as last year. Order 6, which consists of the panels, will thus operationalize orders 1 through 5.

    “Those still working today who were employed from July 17 until our takeover; they have not been fired. The employment will be examined by the staff audit.

    Adeleke dismantled all the bobby traps in 4 hours, ending the illegality that had been going on for 4 months.

    Recall that from July 17 until the day of his inauguration on Monday, all employment and appointments made by Adeleke’s predecessor Gboyega Oyetola were void.

    In a subsequent Executive Order, he removed three of the monarchs that Oyetola had installed.

    According to him, executive orders one through five indicate the administration’s intentions to review, invalidate, and set aside them, and order six, which establishes the makeup of the panel, serves as the instrument by which the orders are put into effect.

    The order states: “After July 17, 2022, all employments made in the Osun State Government’s service in any capacity into any capacity in all Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions, Boards, and Parastatals shall be and hereby are void.

    “After July 17, 2022, all appointments made by the Osun State Government in any capacity into any positions at all Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions, Boards, and Parastatals shall be and hereby are reversed.

    The fifth Executive Order on Chieftaincy Affairs and the Appointment of Traditional Leaders.

    The Osun State Government is hereby ordered to review all appointments of traditional rulers made after July 17, 2022, to ensure that all chieftaincy declarations, native law, custom, and tradition pertaining to such chieftaincies were strictly followed.

    “In the case of Ikirun, Iree, and Igbajo, the appointments of Akinrun of Ikinrun, Aree of Ire, and Owa of Igbajo are hereby suspended pending review to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

    Security agencies are hereby instructed to assume control, and the palaces of Akinrun of Ikirun, Aree of Iree, and Owa of Igbajo should be left empty.

    IGP reacts to three-month prison sentence

    The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has given his response to the order that was handed down by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, which sentenced him to three months in prison for disobeying a court order that was issued in 2011.

    The committal of the IGP came as a result of a lawsuit that was submitted by a police officer named Patrick Okoli.

    Okoli was a member of the Nigerian Police Force but was forced out of the force against his will.

    In response to the decision made by the court, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement claiming that the Inspector General of Police did not disobey the court order or the rule of law.

    According to the statement, “the office is not aware of any Court Order, during the tenure of the current IGP, with respect to a matter making the round in the media that the IGP disobeyed a Court Order for the reinstatement of a dismissed officer

    “The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state unequivocally that the office of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+),NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, did not disregard Court Order or rule of law as the office is not aware of any Court Order, during the current IGP’s tenure, with respect to a matter making the rounds in the media that the IGP disobeyed

    According to the available facts that were gleaned from the reports, “It is instructive to note that the case in point concerns an officer who was dismissed as far back as 1992, which is a few years after the current IGP joined the Nigeria Police Force.

    This is based on the information. The most recent judgement on the matter was handed down in 2011, and it is not something that should normally fall under the direct purview of the administration that is currently in place within the Force.

    As a result, this information is peculiar and astonishing.

    “However, the IGP has given instructions to the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Force Legal Unit to investigate the allegation in order to ascertain the position of the court and to provide informed legal advice for the IGP’s prompt and necessary action,” the statement reads.

    “The Inspector-General of Police reaffirms his dedication to preserving the rule of law and collaborating with the judicial branch to expeditiously administer justice in the interest of enhancing the nation’s criminal justice system,”
