  • It’s Insulting, Provocative To Say You Have Forgiven VP — Osinbajo Group to Tinubu

It’s Insulting, Provocative To Say You Have Forgiven VP — Osinbajo Group to Tinubu

A group loyal to the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), has said it amounted to an insult for his political godfather and presidential candidate of their party, All Progressives Congress, for the 2023 polls, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to say he has forgiven him.

Punchnewsng.com recalls that Osinbajo stood against the former Lagos State Governor for the presidential ticket of the APC.

While Tinubu came top in the primaries, Osinbajo, who served as his Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice while he was Governor for eight years between 1999 and 2007, came a distant third.

Tinubu had on Monday in Kano told an audience that included clerics, that he had forgive Osinbajo for running against him, adding that it was part of what the Quran and Bible preached.

Reacting to the position of the National Leader of the APC, an Osinbajo Support Group, Osinbajo Support Movement, said the statement credited to the National Leader of the APC amounted to an insult.

The OSM said while there is room for political realignment, any talk of forgiveness between the Vice President and Asiwaju Tinubu is both an insult and a provocation that it will not take lying low.

The OSM, which spoke through its National Coordinator, Liberty Badmus, in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, said its attention has been called to a news report in Vanguard newspaper where a fellow and his co-travellers in declaring his support for Tinubu begged for the forgiveness of the candidate for “our principal as well as members of the support groups during the primaries of the party”.

The group, in its statement noted that the representation of the support group in question does not speak for the coalition of all Support Groups that rooted for Osinbajo in the buildup to the APC presidential primaries.

It said: “While the OSM welcomes the need for the APC flagbearer and other presidential aspirants to come together, the group rejects the use of the word ‘forgiveness’ and the implications attached to it.

“We note just like the flagbearer stated that both the VP and himself have met at least twice since after the primaries, any attempt to take a revisionist perspective by insinuating that an offence had been committed because a sitting VP decided to run for the Office of President is an unmitigated insult, completely unnecessary and such narratives ought to be totally discouraged.

“We recall that a meeting of APC Elders in the Southwest ahead of the primaries where the aspirants had resolved the issue concluding that all the aspirants had the right to contest. It is the spirit of that meeting that should be maintained not a derogatory effort which undercuts the solidarity required to take both the flagbearer and the aspirants including the VP forward.”

The group said the support of everyone was appreciated and their new political choice is respected, but will not accept a situation where every group or individuals in the Vice President’s camp will be forced and classified into this self serving agenda.

“Everyone who supported the Vice President has the right to support whoever they wish after the primary, and Vice President Osinbajo has made it clear that people are free to support the party’s candidate but no one should however ridicule us and our principal by going to beg for forgiveness,” the statement added.

The group also noted: “Nigeria runs a democratic democracy, and approves anyone within the legal ambit of our laws (constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the APC constitution) to seek to be elected for President and other elective offices as so desired.

“For the umpteenth time, we state that His Excellency, the Vice President has not committed any crime or offended anyone by seeking to serve his country in the capacity of President.

“We wish to call on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to face his campaign and ignore elements who want to want to benefit from him by regularly invoking Osinbajo.

“Osinbajo has since moved on and he is vigorously facing the task of nation building for which he was elected Vice President.”

  • Assassination Attempt On Apostle Suleman: Police Finally Releases Fresh Details

Assassination Attempt On Apostle Suleman: Police Finally Releases Fresh Details

Police have released fresh details on assassination attempt on Apostle Johnson Suleman

Some security insights have been provided on the recent attempted assassination of a frontline Edo-based cleric, Apostle Johnson Suleiman of the Omega Fire Ministries

The convoy of the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM) Auchi, Apostle Suleman was last Friday attacked by unknown gunmen along the Benin Auchi Road, Edo State.

The cleric was said to be heading to Edo State after a foreign trip to Tanzania when the gunmen opened fire on his convoy.

Six persons, including policemen and Suleman’s drivers were said to have been killed during the attack.

The cleric, who described the incident as an assassination attempt, alluded to “certain things” happening since 2017.

This appeared to be a reference to the various sex scandals involving him.

He was quoted as saying “Since 2017, there are certain things that have been happening that I have been quiet about. There are things people don’t know, even though one or two people, along the line, took advantage of that to just come out and say one or two things.”

Suleman further explained that he is speaking up because they’ve done a lot and discovered that he is still moving on and have now decided to make an attempt on his life.

    What transpired in 2017

In 2017, Suleman may have had multiple issues ranging from controversial preaching to political issues and a host of others

But one incident that was prominent was the issue of Stephanie Otobo, a Canadian based Nigerian singer, who accused the man of God of impregnating and dumping her.

Otobo had alleged that they were in a romantic relationship and had travelled far and wide. She also alleged that the cleric promised to marry her.

She had also claimed that she had no knowledge the apostle was married because he concealed his marital status from her.

In a petition through her lawyer, Festus Keyamo, Otobo whose stage name is Kimora, alleged that the romantic affair began in Canada in the year 2015. She also accused Suleman of illegal procurement of abortion, threat to life, and attempted murder.

Otobo further released an image of Suleman in an alleged romantic chat with her, but the cleric denied and described the photograph as fake and photoshopped.

At one point, Stephanie made a u-turn and apologised to the pastor at his church, saying she was paid to defame the pastor

According to the Singer, some “very strong and powerful politicians and pastors” deceived her, and she succumbed to the manipulation because they told her it would help her career.

However, in 2022 Otobo returned with a fresh allegation that she went to apostle Suleman’s church to apologise under duress.

Otobo narrated that she was tired of the court processes and stress and also claimed that the cleric’s media aide, Phrank Shuaibu, had approached and promised her that the case would be settled if she made the open confession.

    Herdsmen Criticism

Apostle Suleman has been a fierce critic of the killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen in parts of the country.

He had also in the past instructed his security aides to kill any Fulani herdsman who comes around his church premises after he claimed that someone had informed him of the plot to attack his church.

Many have been killed in the past during clashes between the cattle-herding Fulani indigenes and some communities that practice a mix of farming and cattle rearing. The clashes are due to disputes centred around land use.

    Halima Abubakar’s sex scandal

Again, in September 2022 the self acclaimed prophet was involved in yet another sex scandal.

Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar admitted to having a sexual relationship with Apostle Suleman.

Halima opened up on her affair with the cleric after reports emerged on social media that Suleman had an affair with a host of Nigerian actresses including Georgina Onuoha, Queen Nwokoye, Shan George, and Vivian Metchie.

Suleman had in reaction to the viral post described the list as an unrealistic litany of names curated to bring him down, However in a surprising twist, Halima Abubakar took to her Instagram to call him out.

The actress who was subjected to heavy criticism claimed that she only agreed to date him at the time because he told her he had separated from his wife.

He, however, filed a suit through his lawyer, accusing the actress who is currently battling an undisclosed ailment of defamation, blackmail and publishing demeaning statements about him.

Shortly after she told the cleric that they will meet in court, the actress announced that she had quit acting to ‘rejuvenate and continue healing’.

    Killing of Suspected attacker

The Apostle’s allegation that some persons were after his life may have been justified after he raised the alarm that one of the gunmen who attacked his convoy was killed by the police to cover up some people.

Suleman, while condemning the killing, slammed the police for killing the arrested prime suspect.

According to him, the suspect who was captured alive was hurriedly killed in order to frustrate investigation and erase all evidence that could lead to the arrest of his attackers.

But, in reaction, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, directed the withdrawal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Auchi Police Station, Ayodele Suleiman.

Yaro said the decision was taken to unravel the circumstances that led to the death of one of the surviving members of the gang.

However, sources say it is difficult to pinpoint the actual source of the attack on Apostle Suleman because of the multiple crises or battles he has engaged in the recent past.

Asked if Apostle Suleman’s public condemnation of the incessant killings by herdsmen across the country may have led to the assassination attempt on the cleric, an Abuja security expert, Dr. Abigail Uwanta, said the situation should not be completely seen that way.

According to her, “As a security monitoring expert, I will not look at it that way. Our major problem here in Nigeria is that cases are not being properly investigated to come to reasonable conclusions. Once something like this happens, we say thank God the victim survived and that’s it. Even the police and other security agencies would not take it upon themselves to get to the end of the matter. I think this is why people resort to speculation.

”In this particular case anything is possible. It could be terrorists, it could be someone who wants him out of the way. Him as an individual, it’s not everything he does that comes to public notice. Who knows where he goes and the people he meets there. He may have stepped on someone’s toes. That’s why I said anything is possible. It would be wrong but not totally out of place to link it to Fulani herdsmen.”

Ejes Gist News reports that as of the time of this report, the police are yet to make their findings public.

The leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is allegedly no longer safe in the Department of State Services’ (DSS) custody, according to an alarm raised by the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL.

Following a recent terror alert from the US, UK, and Canada that some terrorists were preparing to conduct a devastating attack in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, the coalition sounded the alarm.

In a statement issued yesterday in response, the coalition’s president general, Goodluck Ibem, claimed that the Federal government’s decision to maintain Kanu’s detention in the DSS “confirmed a plot to assassinate him (Kanu), using the terror attack as a cover-up to hide the involvement of some forces.

“We call on Britain to also evacuate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a British citizen, from Abuja at the same time that Great Britain is evacuating its citizens from Abuja due to the planned terror attack.”

The coalition emphasized that past events had demonstrated the accuracy of US intelligence gatherings and that the terror alert issued by many nations should be taken carefully.

The statement said, “Federal Government is giving people hope when most of those claiming there is no reason to be alarmed can hardly travel to their villages due to terrorists occupying their villages and their farmers.”

Before treating Rico, they demanded N4.2 million when we arrived at Evercare Hospital in Lagos.

We requested a return of the down payment we made for Rico’s medical care, but we have not yet received it.

“We gave the hospital N3.5 million. The document states that N1.5 million was intended for the patient refund, but the total amount used was N1.98 million. That money has still not been returned as of right now.

Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has responded to Professor Banji Akintoye, the movement’s organizer for Yoruba nation self-determination.

In advance of the 2023 presidential election, Akintoye has charged Tinubu with harboring a self-serving agenda. He continued by saying that Yoruba voters won’t support Tinubu since he doesn’t care about them. The APC presidential contender responded by calling Akintoye’s remark nasty and unjustified.

Bola Tinubu Will Win 2023 Presidential Election — Fitch Predicts

Speaking through the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu vowed to resist any attempt to derail his presidential campaign. According to Tinubu, Akintoye’s comment was misplaced and divisive. The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to an unfortunate, misdirected, misplaced and divisive statement credited to Prof Banji Akintoye, in which his group threatened to pull the South West out of Nigeria

“We find it quite preposterous the Professor’s sweeping outlandish accusation that Bola Ahmed Tinubu is only pursuing his PERSONA interest in running for the presidency of Nigeria. Such a statement is malicious and unwarranted.

“It is pertinent to state that Tinubu is contesting for Nigeria’s presidency because of his readiness to render unflinching service to Nigerians and because of his abiding faith in a strong, united, and prosperous Nigeria where every man and woman, regardless of their ethnicity and religious beliefs, can be proud and prosperous.” He said most of the issues raised by Akintoye had been addressed in his Action Plan.

  • Founding Member of APC Dumps Party Amidst Campaigns

Ex- commissioner, Ajumbe dumps APC, give reasons for action

Ex-Commissioner for Information and Tourism under former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, Prof. Vitalis Ajumbe, has provided the explanation for why he left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and stopped participating in active partisan politics.

Professor Ajumbe, a founding member of the ruling APC in Nigeria, hinted at the reasoning behind his decision in a letter to Senator Hope Uzodinma, the current governor of Imo, which was forwarded to newsmen on Friday.

In the letter, Professor Ajumbe accused the national leadership of the APC of giving its local leadership inadequate rewards.

He claimed that despite his enormous sacrifices, as well as his financial and emotional support for the growth of the APC, the party had relegated him to the background and that the national leadership had done nothing to recognize him.

The Southeast chieftain explained that he had only benefited from a number of ministerial and board appointments during the previous administration of former Governor Rochas Okorocha in 2015 based on merit and roles he played to ensure the ex-governor emerge victorious during his second term election.

Listing the appointive positions as chairman of the Management Committee of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, commissioner for Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and commissioner of the Imo State Development Fund.

Ajumbe further emphasized that the country’s ruling party has failed to compensate him for his enormous sacrifices on behalf of the APC with a lucrative and deserving job since the current APC-led government in Nigeria took office.

The former commissioner regretted spending over N5 million of his own money trying to keep appointments with the governor who did not honour them.

He also recalled his numerous private meetings with Senator Hope Uzodinma, the current governor of Imo state, at Owerri without actually meeting with him.

He said in the letter, which was only partially legible, that “your Excellency, you made it difficult for us to meet so that I could submit my reports for the responsibilities you gave me.

You had invited me to meet with you at Owerri on a number of occasions. Without ever meeting you, I would spend my money on travel arrangements such as hotels and plane tickets. I have spent more than N5 million of my own money attempting to keep our unreliable appointments.

“Your Excellency, I have decided to stay out of the APC and party politics rather than wasting money in this way.

I am aware that individuals who endure hardships on behalf of the APC are not ultimately rewarded.

On behalf of President Buhari, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was also the APC’s National Chairman, named and inaugurated me as a member of the party’s think tank committee on May 25, 2021.

This role is primarily consultative, serves to clean up the public image, and is unpaid.

“At 62 years old, I am quite an experienced person with little wants. For the sake of my children, the unborn, and the Imo people, I only endeavour to ensure excellent administration in the state of Imo.

Without belonging to a political party, I can accomplish my goals thanks to the number of national contacts I have built up over the years.

“For those who recognize my worth, I wish to continue serving as a political advisor. I am always willing, if requested, to lend value to your administration in any way, free of charge, to help my state (Imo) have good governance. Passengers Stranded As British Airways Cancels London-Abuja Flight Over Threats of Terrorists Attack

Passengers affected have been stranded following the decision of British Airways to cancelled its London-Abuja flight

According to information obtained by our source, British Airways has canceled the flight that was scheduled to land in Abuja in the early hours of Saturday.

Passengers affected by the cancellation and diversion lamented that there was no adequate notice, according to Daily Trust

Though BA did not provide any reason for the decision, the diversion of the flight might not be unconnected with the terror alert in Abuja, with several foreign missions issuing travel warnings to their citizens.

Despite allaying of fears by the federal government, foreigners have been reportedly leaving the country in droves, while a major mall in Nigeria’s capital shut down on Thursday.

Daily Trust learnt that after BA brought Abuja-bound passengers to Lagos on Thursday, the passengers, mostly Nigerians, refused to disembark, and insisted on the flight terminating in Abuja.

One of the passengers who wrote in a WhatsApp group said, “When they refused and insisted on the flight terminating in Abuja as contracted, the crew threatened to launch tear gas at the mostly Nigerian passengers right in the plane!

“They had been telling people on board since they boarded last night, Abuja. Why must you go to that place! After an uproarious session and an hour on ground, the plane finally took off and arrived in Abuja around 11am.

“There is a lot of mischief afoot on this terror attack warning and it smells like we need to talk less and pull out antennae to their highest gain heights. This is not just a terror warning; there is more schemes and actions of enemies within and without.”

But findings by our correspondent showed that the Abuja-bound flight which was supposed to depart London by 10 p.m and arrive by 4:40 a.m on Saturday has been cancelled.

This was also shown on the flight radar, which indicated that the Abuja-bound flights for Friday and Saturday had been cancelled.

But the return flight from Abuja to London departed normally, it was learnt.

There was no official statement from the British Airways at the time of filing this report.

  • Naira Redesign: Trouble in Paradise as CBN Insists it Followed Due Process Amidst FG claims

Naira Redesign: CBN Insists on following law, due process for Naira redesign

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) insists that it followed the law and proper procedure to carry out the exercise, which has been overdue for 12 years, in response to claims made by the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmad, that her ministry was not carried along by the CBN in the ongoing process of redesigning three series of the Naira.

The CBN’s spokesman, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, expressed surprise at the minister’s assertion in a Friday night interview with a group of journalists in Abuja.

He emphasised that the CBN is still a very meticulous organisation that adheres to due process when making policy decisions.

Nwanisobi claims that in accordance with section 2(b), section 18(a), and section 19(a)(b) of the CBN Act 2007, the Management of the CBN properly requested and received President Muhammadu Buhari’s written consent to redesign, produce, release, and circulate new series of N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes.

He reiterated that some people were hoarding substantial amounts of banknotes outside the vaults of commercial banks, but urged Nigerians to support the currency reform effort, saying it was in their general interest.

Osita argued that no one who cares about the country should support this trend.

He added that the integrity of the currency, the CBN, and the nation were all at risk due to a number of escalating challenges facing currency management in the nation.

He concluded by saying that every top-notch Central Bank was dedicated to preserving the credibility of the country’s legal tender, the effectiveness of its supply, and its ability to carry out monetary policy.

Regarding the timeline of the redesign project, Nwanisobi said that the CBN had even waited too long, taking 20 years to complete it in contrast to the worldwide standard, which calls for central banks to redesign, create, and circulate new local legal tender every five to eight years.

The CBN spokesman expressed optimism that the effort will, among other goals, deepen Nigeria’s push to entrench a cashless economy in the face of increased minting of the eNaira while assuring Nigerians that the currency redesign exercise was strictly a central banking exercise and not targeted at any group.

The ability of people to access the significant amount of money kept outside of the banking system and utilized as a source of funds for ransom payments, he claimed, also contributes to reducing the number of terrorist attacks and kidnappings.

Nwanisobi asked all Nigerians to embrace the redesign of the naira since it will benefit the country’s economy overall.

The redesign of some new naira notes was unveiled by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Wednesday.

According to CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, the new design and issues would take effect in the middle of December 2022.

According to Emefiele, the new notes include N200, N500 and N1000.

He advised Nigerians to take old notes to banks to enable them withdraw the new banknotes once circulation begins.

Speaking on the motivation for the change, the CBN governor explained that the decision was reached due to persisting concerns with the management of the current series of banknotes, and currency in circulation — particularly those outside the banking system in Nigeria.

He also ordered all banks to “keep open their currency processing centers from Monday to Saturday so as to accommodate all the cash that will be returned by their customers”.

  • Bola Tinubu Will Win 2023 Presidential Election — Fitch Predicts

Fitch has predicted that Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will win the 2023 presidential election

Third-party candidate has never reached more than 7.5% of votes in Nigeria. However, due to his frugal reputation and large social media following, we expect Obi to get a higher share of the vote than previous third-party candidates.

“As such, we believe that Obi’s popularity will most likely split the opposition vote, at the expense of the PDP. The PDP’s candidate (Atiku Abubakar) is a Northerner and we believe that the party’s only route to victory is expanding its vote in the South West and North Central states, while retaining large majorities in the South South and South East.

“However, given Obi’s popularity in the south – especially the South South and South East – we believe it is unlikely the main opposition party will be able to gain more votes in these parts of the country.
