Sad moment at a private birthday party in Lagos as popular Nigerian singer and actress, Onyeka Onwenu, popularly known as the ‘Elegant Stallion’, is dead minutes after she performed.
The music icon, 72, collapsed during the performance at a private birthday party in Lagos and reportedly collapsed, only to later be pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Onwenu had attended the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli, founder of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, where she mounted the stage for the last performance of her life.
According to eyewitnesses at the event, immediately after she performed, Onwenu went back to her seat and slumped.
People at the scene immediately called for emergency services, but on getting her to the hospital, she was pronounced dead. Her cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
The source close to the family, who spoke with The Guardian in confidence, expressed shock at the sudden loss.
“It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu had just performed at the birthday of Mrs Stella Okoli of Emzor Pharmaceuticals this night; after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital, but couldn’t make it,” the source said.
This very beautiful program had to be brought to a close with the tragic news of Onwenu’s demise, graced by several dignitaries like Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.
