Jigawa State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido, has presented a detailed flood prevention and control plan to the state government at no cost. This initiative is aimed at addressing the persistent flood crises that affect the state each year.

Lamido revealed his plan during a press conference held after he visited the district heads and families who have suffered from recent floods in Miga, Jahun, Kiyawa, and Buji local government areas. His visit came in the wake of severe flooding that resulted in over 30 deaths, the destruction of approximately 10,000 homes, and significant damage to farmland.

He expressed deep sympathy for the flood victims, criticizing the state government for its inaction despite prior warnings from the National Meteorological Agency (NiMet). Lamido expressed his disappointment, noting that the government’s failure to act on the predictions had led to the current devastation.

Lamido also highlighted the inadequate conditions in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, criticizing the government for its poor response to the disaster. He described the lack of essential services and amenities in the camps as unacceptable and expressed his personal commitment to providing additional aid.

 

He urged Governor Malam Umar Namadi to visit the affected areas personally to assess the situation and better understand the needs of the flood victims.
