Senate Passes Minimum Wage Bill Within An Hour

The Nigerian Senate passed the proposed N70,000 minimum wage bill on Tuesday.

The bill was passed in an hour on Tuesday, thereby completing the three required readings.

President Bola Tinubu had forwarded the wage bill to the national assembly for legislation to increase the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.

The bill was also forwarded to the House of Representatives for a new national minimum wage of ₦70,000 to be provided for Nigerian workers.

The landmark deal is the result of months of futile negotiations between the government and the labor unions in the ongoing negotiation, and President Buhari’s intervention broke the logjam.
