Protesting Nursing Mother Accuses Police of Shooting Tear Gas at Eagle Square, Abuja
FCT, Abuja – A nursing mother has accused operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command of shooting tear gas at protesters at Eagle Square, Abuja.
The widow, who joined the protest over hunger and hardship, said her husband was killed by bandits in Katsina State. She expressed frustration over the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians, which prompted her to join the demonstration.
“People cannot eat due to hardship,” she said. “I came to protest the hardship in Nigeria, and the police are shooting tear gas at us. Do they also want to kill my baby?”

The widow’s sentiments were echoed by many at the protest, highlighting the widespread suffering and inability to afford basic necessities. The protest aimed to draw attention to the economic hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians.

Legal Perspective
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa advised the protesters to limit their demonstration to one to three days. He accused the federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of sponsoring hooligans to disrupt protests in Lagos. Adegboruwa urged the protesters to articulate their demands clearly and allow the administration time to address their concerns.
Other Protests
In Kano, police dispersed youths attempting to break into Sadaraki Stores during similar hunger and hardship protests. The Kano state police command swiftly intervened to prevent the angry youths from gaining entrance, although they managed to damage the gate.
