President Buhari appoints Awolowo as AFCTA Secretary

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Olusegun Awolowo as Secretary of the National Action Committee on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for a term of four (4) years, commencing on 19th December, 2022.

Mr. Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, made the announcement in a statement.

“As Secretary, Mr. Awolowo is expected to provide guidance to the National Action Committee on the AfCFTA for the effective coordination of relevant stakeholders toward the achievement of Nigeria’s strategic national interest.

Mr. Awolowo, a law graduate of Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), Ago Iwoye, served as Special Assistant to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

From 2007 to 2011, he also served as Secretary for Social Development and Transport for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Abuja.

Between 2013 and 2022, Mr. Awolowo served as the Executive Director/CEO of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council for two terms.
