Npower’s Transformation to Renewed Hope RHJCP

In the latest breaking news, the Nigerian government is unveiling groundbreaking changes to its Npower program, now known as the Renewed Hope Job Creation Programme (RHJCP). These changes are set to bring fresh hope and opportunities to prospective beneficiaries.

One of the most anticipated updates is the commencement of the payment of a nine-month backlog to Npower beneficiaries in November. Akindele Egbuwalo, the National Programme Manager of N-Power, shared this exciting news. The payments will be done in installments, providing much-needed financial relief to those who have been waiting.

Higher Stipends for Beneficiaries

Additionally, there are plans to increase the monthly stipends for Npower beneficiaries. The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, has proposed raising the stipend from the current N30,000 to a unified payment of N50,000 to N60,000. This substantial increase aims to better support the beneficiaries and improve their livelihoods.

The Minister has explained that they are awaiting an agreement on the new minimum wage before implementing these changes. These enhancements are part of the broader restructuring of the Npower program, which is expected to be fully operational by January 2024.

Age Enrollment Expansion

The Nigerian government is not only focusing on stipend improvements but also expanding the age limit for Npower enrollment. Initially, the program was open to individuals aged 18-35, but this age bracket has now been extended to 18-40. This expansion is part of a restructured program aimed at involving five million youths over the next five years. Dr. Akindele Egbuwalo, the N-Power National Programme Manager, assures the public that this restructured program will encompass more beneficiaries across different age groups.

Clearing the Air on Unpaid Stipends and Nexit Package

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, addressed the issues surrounding unpaid Npower stipends and the Nexit package. She outlined the challenges faced when she assumed office, including the excessive registration of beneficiaries, delayed funds disbursement, and beneficiaries who continued to receive payments despite not actively participating in the program. To address these issues, an exit plan and payment system have been introduced.

Rebranding to Renewed Hope Skills Acquisition Programme

In light of these changes and the need for a fresh start, President Bola Tinubu’s Federal Government has rebranded the Npower program to the Renewed Hope Skills Acquisition Programme. This rebranding reflects the government’s commitment to revitalizing and enhancing the program to empower Nigerian youths.
