1) Fuel price skyrockets barely 24 hours after the announcement of subsidy removal

Less than twenty-four hours after President Bola Tinubu declared the end of fuel subsidies, the price of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, has skyrocketed to N600 per litre in many parts of the country, up from N195.

 

2) State Refinery ad-hoc committee reveals amount FG spent since 2010

The Ad Hoc Committee on the State of Refineries in the Country of the House of Representatives estimates that the Federal Government has spent a total of N11,349,583,186,313.40 since 2010. However, the committee chairman, Ganiyu Johnson, was unable to persuade Ahmed Wase, who chaired the Committee of the Whole, to consider the report.

3) House of Reps backs Tinubu subsidy removal plan

The House of Representatives has praised President Bola Tinubu for removing the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol. The commendation followed Tuesday’s unanimous passage of a motion of urgent public importance introduced by Jimoh Olajide (APC/Lagos) in the House’s plenary.

 

4) Vacate EFCC headquarters immediately, Tinubu orders DSS

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu instructed the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately vacate the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s office in Ikoyi, Lagos. Tuesday morning, the DSS laid siege to the office of the anti-corruption agency.

On Tuesday, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stated that he did not attend the inauguration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, also known as Abba Gida-Gida, out of concern for the possibility of violence between their supporters. Ganduje stated in an interview with BBC Hausa that he has no issues with the new state government.

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has admitted into evidence the documents submitted by Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi in support of his petition against President Bola Tinubu. The documents presented by the petitioner’s first witness, Mr. Lawrence Nwakaeti, included a judgement from the United States District Court.

 

8) Court sentences owner of Hilton Hotel, Rahmon Adedoyin, two others to death by hanging 

The Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Oyebola Ojo, has hung Dr. Rahman Adedoyin, the owner of the Hilton Hotel in Ile-Ife. Earlier, Justice Ojo ruled that Adedoyin, the owner of the Hilton Hotel in Ile-Ife, where OAU graduate student Timothy Adegoke was allegedly murdered, was guilty of murder.

 

9) Gunmen attack Rivers state, murder 4 people

On Monday night, gunmen suspected of being cultists murdered four people and severed the heads of two of the victims in Rundele community, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State. It was determined that the two murdered individuals were members of the Rundele Security and Peace Advisory Council, a local vigilante organisation.
