The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed the possibility of barring Glo subscribers from making calls to MTN lines in the near future. This potential disruption arises from the unresolved issue of interconnect charges between Globacom and MTN Nigeria Communications Plc.

The NCC made this information public through a notice issued on Monday, signed by Reuben Muoka, the Director of the Public Affairs Department. According to the notice, the commission has granted partial approval for the disconnection of Globacom from MTN.

Globacom was reportedly notified about MTN’s application and given the opportunity to present its case. However, after careful examination of the application and considering the circumstances surrounding the indebtedness, the NCC determined that Globacom lacks sufficient or justifiable reasons for non-payment of the interconnect charges.

As outlined in the notice, after a period of 10 days from the date of the announcement, subscribers of Globacom may no longer be able to make calls to MTN numbers. However, they will still have the capability to receive calls. The partial disconnection will also permit in-bound calls to the Globacom network.

This development is expected to impact communication services for Glo subscribers and highlights the importance of resolving financial obligations within the telecommunications industry.

The NCC has signaled its commitment to enforcing compliance with interconnect agreements to maintain the integrity of the communication network.
