Esien Ita Itam Trust Fund Awards Scholarships to 74 Students Across 11 Schools in Calabar
The Teacher Esien Ita Itam Education Trust Fund has announced 74 scholarship beneficiaries across 11 schools in Calabar and surrounding communities for the 2026/2027 academic year, reaffirming its commitment to supporting education and creating opportunities for young people.
The Trust Fund released its official list of approved beneficiaries, covering students in junior and senior secondary schools as well as technical education programmes.
The initiative is designed to provide educational support to selected students and encourage them to pursue academic excellence. By extending assistance to learners across multiple institutions, the programme also highlights the importance of investing in education as a means of developing individuals and strengthening communities.
74 Students Selected From 11 Schools
The approved list features students from a range of educational institutions, including Edgerley Memorial Girls’ Secondary School, Saint Patrick’s College, Government Secondary School, Odukpani Qua Town, and Hope Waddell Training Institution.
Other beneficiary schools are Mary Slessor Academy, Government Secondary School, Creek Town, Government Technical College, Efut-Ibonda, Government Secondary School, Adiabo-Tinapa, Duke Town Secondary School, West African Peoples’ Institute, and Holy Child Secondary School, Marian Hill.
The selection covers students at different stages of their education, with beneficiaries drawn from Junior Secondary School (JSS), Senior Secondary School (SS), and technical training levels.
This broad coverage provides support to students pursuing both conventional secondary education and vocational or technical programmes.
Government and Private Schools Benefit
The distribution of beneficiaries across the 11 institutions demonstrates the reach of the scholarship programme.
Government Secondary School, Creek Town, has 10 students on the approved list, while Duke Town Secondary School and West African Peoples’ Institute each have nine beneficiaries.
Edgerley Memorial Girls’ Secondary School, Saint Patrick’s College, Government Secondary School, Odukpani Qua Town, Government Secondary School, Adiabo-Tinapa, and Government Technical College, Efut-Ibonda, also feature among the participating institutions.
The list further includes students from Hope Waddell Training Institution, Mary Slessor Academy, and Holy Child Secondary School, Marian Hill.
By supporting learners across different schools, the Trust Fund is extending its educational intervention beyond a single institution and reaching students from varied academic environments.
Technical Education Also Included
The inclusion of Government Technical College, Efut-Ibonda, highlights the programme’s coverage of technical and vocational education.
Six students from the institution were named beneficiaries, including Alice Okon Mbiabong, Dorcas Martin Effiong, Patricia Effiong Okon, Kingsley Edet Etim, Godwin Ani Oku, and Godwin Asuquo Eyo.
Their inclusion reflects the importance of supporting students who are developing practical and technical skills alongside those pursuing traditional secondary school qualifications.
Technical education remains an important pathway for young people seeking specialised skills that can prepare them for further training, employment, and entrepreneurship.
Scholarship Comes With a Responsibility
Beyond the announcement of the beneficiaries, the Trust Fund has emphasised the importance of making good use of the educational opportunity.
The scholarship is intended to support students in their academic journey, but its long-term value will depend partly on the commitment of the recipients to their studies.
Beneficiaries are therefore expected to approach the opportunity with discipline, determination, and a strong sense of responsibility.
For the students, the support represents an opportunity to focus on their education and work towards their individual ambitions. For their families, it may also provide encouragement as they continue to invest in the children’s future.
The initiative also serves as a reminder that educational support can have a lasting impact when it is matched with the dedication of students, the guidance of teachers, and the encouragement of families.
