Emir Sanusi makes first appointment amid emirate crisis
Sanusi Appoints New Ward Head Amid Emirate Dispute.
Kano, Nigeria— Amid the ongoing dispute over the rightful Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, appointed Hamisu Sani as the new Ward Head of Kofar Mazugal in Dala Local Government Area on Thursday.
This marks Sanusi’s first appointment since his reinstatement, despite resistance from the dethroned 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero.
During the appointment ceremony, Emir Sanusi urged the new Ward Head to promote peaceful coexistence and contribute to the overall development of the state.
As Sanusi consolidates his position, numerous district heads and delegations from religious and market groups have visited the palace to pledge their allegiance.

These delegations include the Ansarulddeen Tijjanniya sect and traders from Kano’s popular textile (Kantin Kwari) and commodities (Singer) markets.
Sanusi was reinstalled as the 16th Emir of Kano last Thursday after the State Assembly and Governor Abba Yusuf repealed the Kano State Emirates Councils (Repealed) Bill 2024 and enacted it into law.
Shortly after Sanusi’s reinstatement, dethroned Emir Bayero returned to Kano, resulting in a legal stalemate that will be resolved in court.
