His comments come as Israeli troops prepared for a possible ground invasion of the territory in response to the recent brutal rampage by Hamas across southern Israel, resulting in numerous casualties and the taking of hostages.
President Biden expressed his confidence that Israeli forces would take measures to minimize civilian casualties and prevent a dire humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. He stressed the need to go after Hamas and “take out the extremists,” describing it as a necessary requirement.
When asked if Hamas should be entirely eliminated, President Biden replied, “Yes, I do.” However, he cautioned against Israeli occupation of Gaza, stating, “I think it’d be a big mistake.
President Biden acknowledged that not all Palestinian people are represented by Hamas and that Israel’s occupation of Gaza would be ill-advised.
