Dan Orbih Biography: PDP Chieftain Dies at 64

Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, popularly known as Dan Orbih, was a prominent Nigerian politician and a leading figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly in Edo State and the South-South geopolitical zone.

Orbih was born on October 27, 1961, in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State. He became deeply involved in Nigerian politics and rose through the ranks of the PDP to become one of the party’s influential figures in the South-South region.

Ejes Gist News reports that Orbih died on August 31, 2026, at the age of 64. His death was announced by his family in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, who said the family received the news with profound sadness.

Dan Orbih’s political career

Orbih served as Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, where he became an important figure in the party’s political structure in the state.

He later served as the PDP National Vice-Chairman for the South-South zone, a position that placed him among the party’s senior political leaders at the national level. Former Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki described Orbih as an influential voice in Edo politics and said his years of leadership contributed to the development of the PDP in the state and Nigeria.

Orbih was also associated with the PDP‘s Legacy Group and became a prominent political ally of Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. His political influence extended beyond Edo State into the wider South-South political bloc.

Dan Orbih and Ambrose Alli University

Beyond party politics, Orbih served as Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, an institution owned by the Edo State Government.

His public career therefore included both political leadership within the PDP and involvement in the administration of a state-owned tertiary institution.

Dan Orbih’s family

Orbih was married to Mrs Florence Orbih. According to the family statement announcing his death, he was survived by his children, Ms Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih, as well as his brothers, sisters and other members of his extended family.

The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they mourned his death.
