BREAKING: Nigerian Airline Headquarters, Other Companies Sealed Over Unpaid Taxes
Max Air Limited, a major Nigerian airline, has been sealed by the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) over unpaid taxes, spanning the years 2012 to 2017.
The company’s headquarters, along with two other businesses in Kano, faced closure due to failure to settle outstanding tax liabilities.

According to reports, the Kano Internal Revenue Service took this action after repeated attempts to collect the owed taxes were ignored by the companies.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, Director of Debt Management and Enforcement at KIRS, confirmed that the agency obtained a court order to carry out the closures. The action aims to enforce tax compliance, ensuring that all taxes owed to the state are paid.
Alongside Max Air, Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company’s office, located along the Kano-Zaria road, was also sealed for failing to pay N241.2 million in Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) and withholding taxes for 2021 and 2022.
Additionally, Northern Rice and Oil Milling Nigeria Ltd, based at Gunduwawa Industrial Estate, was shut for owing N600,000 in taxes.
Abdullahi emphasized that such enforcement actions would continue until all outstanding taxes are settled, reinforcing the state’s efforts to strengthen its revenue base. The sealed companies will remain closed until their tax liabilities are paid in full.
