The Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has taken a decisive step by summoning 57 teachers from various government primary and junior secondary schools over allegations of gross misconduct and absenteeism.

The affected educators, hailing from schools including GJSS Miri, Gumli, Haka Yafi, Tsohon Kamfani, and Guru Junior Secondary School, are required to present themselves before the Board to provide explanations for their actions.

This initiative follows a directive from SUBEB’s Executive Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri, who is committed to tackling absenteeism and enhancing the quality of education in the state. Duguri voiced his concerns regarding the ongoing absenteeism among some teachers, noting that many have failed to provide valid justifications for their absences.

Reaffirming his dedication to reforming the basic education system, Duguri emphasised the necessity of ensuring that teachers meet their responsibilities. He pointed out that this is essential for delivering quality education to students.

Additionally, the chairman highlighted the need for rigorous monitoring of schools, especially in rural areas, to identify the underlying causes of absenteeism and improve the overall learning environment across Bauchi State.
