Abuja, Nigeria – There is political tension in Sokoto State as Senator Ibrahim Lamido, representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, has formally resigned his membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a resignation letter dated April 22, 2026, addressed to the Ward Chairman of APC in Isa South, Isa Local Government, the distinguished Senator and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Primary Health Care Development and Disease Control cited “ongoing internal party crisis, suspicion, and unfair party leadership style” as reasons for his decision.
According to the letter, which was obtained exclusively by Ejes Gist News, Senator Lamido stated that the decision to leave the ruling party was not taken lightly. However, he noted that the persistent divisions, lack of cohesion, and unresolved disputes within the APC in Sokoto State have made it increasingly difficult for him to continue his membership in good conscience.

“The persistent divisions, lack of cohesion, and unresolved disputes have significantly hindered the progress and unity that the party once stood for,” part of the letter read.
Despite his departure, Senator Lamido expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have served and contributed to the APC during his time as a member. He also wished the party well in its efforts to overcome its present challenges and move forward in unity.
