Anti-Tinubu Passenger, Obiajulu Ujah, who caused stir at Abuja airport sent to prison for medical observation
Obiajulu Ujah, Anti-Tinubu Passenger, has been ordered to be detained at the Kuje Correctional Facility by an Abuja magistrate court.
The citizen will be under observation for a month so that medical professionals can assess his mental health.
Ujah made a scene at the Abuja airport on March 31. He issued a cautionary statement about the inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu while aboard an Ibom Air flight headed for Lagos.
In the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, the Commissioner of Police filed a case with the case number CR/08/23 against Ujah.
According to reports, Zuba Magisterial District received a decision on Thursday from Magistrate Abdulazeel Ismail Muhammed of the FCT Magistrate Court.
He declared, “Having carefully examined the medical report dated April 17, 2023 and signed by consultant psychiatrist Dr. Olusegun Shoyombo, I am of the opinion that the defendant cannot defend himself.”
Muhammad referred to Section 278(3) & (4) ACJA, 2015, because he needed immediate medical attention.
The section states that the trial must be postponed and the defendant remanded for a maximum of one month if the court is not confident in the defendant’s ability to present a defence.

The section also specifies that a medical officer must keep an eye on the detained defendant throughout his remand.
The medical officer must provide the court with his written assessment of the person’s mental state prior to the end of that time period.
When the officer cannot come to a firm conclusion, he must certify this to the court and request an extension of remand for up to three months.
“I hereby order that the defendant be remanded for medical observation for one month,” Muhammed said, citing all of the above, the need to prevent the risk of jumping treatment, and the discovery that Kuje Correctional Facility has the necessary medical staff.
The defendant will receive the necessary medical care from the medical staff at the expense of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the magistrate continued.
