‘Nigerian Youth Are Hungry Because They Are Lazy’ — Tinubu’s Campaign DG, Yari
Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has sparked widespread public reactions after declaring that laziness is partly responsible for the hunger currently being experienced across the country.
The former Zamfara State governor made the controversial statement on Saturday while addressing supporters at an APC presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Addressing the crowd, Yari argued that citizens should not place the blame for their economic struggles solely on the government, emphasizing that personal effort plays a critical role in an individual’s ability to provide for themselves.
“You are hungry because you are lazy. If you work hard, you will not be hungry,” Yari said.
He contended that a significant number of Nigerians, particularly young people, are unwilling to engage in productive labor and instead prefer to remain at home expecting financial handouts.
Reflecting on past generations, Yari noted that Nigerians were previously more inclined toward farming and manual labor, explaining that people could work their farms during the day and have food to eat by evening.
He expressed regret over what he described as a shift in attitude, claiming that many young Nigerians today are reluctant to take up agriculture or learn vocational skills, opting instead to spend time on their phones while blaming the government for their economic difficulties.
