President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Dr Betta Edu, Director of Women Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, and other party women leaders to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.

Tinubu gave the directive on Wednesday at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he acknowledged the contributions of Nigerian women to the party’s electoral successes.

The President expressed confidence in the ability of women to play a decisive role in the forthcoming election, describing them as key mobilisers whose influence extends across families, communities and grassroots political structures.

He urged the Women Mobilisation Directorate, led by Edu, to translate the support of women into a coordinated nationwide campaign capable of helping the APC achieve its electoral objectives.

The directive places the women’s mobilisation structure at the centre of the party’s strategy for securing another term for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.

The campaign is expected to focus on strengthening existing political networks, engaging voters at the ward level and expanding the party’s presence in communities across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

APC Targets 40 Million Women’s Votes

The APC Women Mobilisation Directorate has set a target of securing 40 million votes from women for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in the 2027 presidential election.

According to the mobilisation framework outlined by the directorate, the initiative will cover 176,846 communities nationwide, alongside political structures across the states and the FCT.

The strategy is designed to extend the campaign beyond major rallies and public gatherings through household engagement, community outreach, ward-level organisation and polling-unit mobilisation.

Under the plan, Edu and her team are expected to engage women in markets, rural communities, professional associations, cooperative societies, faith-based organisations and other social networks.

The campaign will also seek to communicate the administration’s policies and programmes to prospective voters while strengthening the party’s grassroots structures.

However, the 40-million-vote figure remains a campaign target rather than a verified projection of votes the party will receive.

Tinubu Recognises Women’s Political Influence

Tinubu’s directive highlights the importance the APC attaches to women’s participation in its preparations for the 2027 elections.

Women play significant roles in household economic management, agriculture, small businesses, education and community development, giving them substantial influence within local communities.

The President’s charge is expected to place additional responsibilities on APC women leaders and grassroots organisers to sustain engagement with voters and communicate the administration’s policies.

For Edu and the Women Mobilisation Directorate, the challenge will be to convert the party’s mobilisation plans into measurable grassroots participation across the country.

Edu has repeatedly expressed confidence in the ability of APC women to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, calling for unity, discipline and sustained engagement with voters.

She has also emphasised the need for women to operate as a coordinated political network rather than depend exclusively on high-profile campaign events.

Remi Tinubu’s Empowerment Initiatives Feature in Campaign Preparations

The mobilisation drive is also expected to build on the activities of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, whose engagements with women and support for empowerment initiatives have featured in the administration’s outreach efforts.

At the October 5 pre-inaugural Women’s Summit and Empowerment Programme in Abuja, the First Lady brought together women stakeholders from different parts of the country.

The programme also featured the distribution of livelihood-support items, including motorbikes and farm trucks, to beneficiaries.

The initiative underscored the administration’s efforts to connect women’s economic participation with its broader political engagement ahead of the next general election.

APC Intensifies Preparations for 2027

The inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council marks another stage in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general election, bringing its campaign leadership and mobilisation structures into focus.

With Tinubu’s latest directive, the party’s women leaders are expected to intensify community-level engagement, strengthen grassroots networks and sustain communication with voters ahead of the polls.

The campaign will need to move beyond public endorsements and political declarations to establish effective channels of engagement with communities across the federation.

For Edu and other officials of the Women Mobilisation Directorate, the immediate task is to translate the President’s directive and the party’s 40-million-vote target into an organised mobilisation effort ahead of the 2027 election.
