Speaking on the ongoing legal battle in the US over Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, Omokri asserted that the president’s legal intervention is grounded in standard privacy rights rather than an attempt to suppress evidence of criminal activity.

The controversy stems from application requests filed in a US district court by applicants seeking the release of law enforcement files dating back decades. The files relate to previous civil forfeiture proceedings in the 1990s in Chicago involving bank accounts associated with Tinubu.
Lawyers representing President Tinubu filed motions in the US court to prevent unredacted documents from being made public. The legal team argued that the records contain highly confidential material, including social security numbers, medical background details, and personal identification data.
Supporters of the administration maintain that individuals retain the right to prevent the public dissemination of personal biometric information under international privacy standards. Opponents, however, have argued that full transparency is required given Tinubu’s position as head of state.
