Troops Arrest 65-Year-Old Woman for Supplying Drugs to Terrorists in Borno.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 65-year-old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, over her alleged involvement in supplying illicit drugs to Boko Haram terrorists operating in Nigeria’s North-East region.

The suspect was apprehended in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State following an intelligence-led operation by troops of the Joint Task Force, North-East, under Operation Hadin Kai.

Ejes Gist News reports that the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics and criminal support networks across the region.

Military Confirms Arrest in Official Statement

The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Joint Task Force, North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant-Colonel Sanni Uba. According to the military, Abulazeez was identified as a key player in the supply and distribution of drugs to terrorist elements within several communities.

Operation Desert Sanity V

“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, under Operation Desert Sanity V, have recorded another significant success in efforts to degrade terrorist logistics and criminal support networks in the North-East,” the statement said.

It added that acting on credible intelligence on January 23, 2026, troops arrested the suspect in Askira Uba Local Government Area.

Source and Distribution Network

Preliminary investigations by the military indicate that the suspect allegedly sourced the illicit drugs from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State. The substances were reportedly transported through established supply routes for onward distribution to terrorist elements and other criminal actors within Borno State.

The military said the findings point to an organised supply network designed to sustain illicit activities linked to terrorism in the region.

Drugs Recovered During Operation

During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa with an estimated total weight of about 30 kilograms. The military described the seizure as a significant interception aimed at cutting off resources intended to support terrorist operations.

According to the statement, the quantity recovered underscores the scale of the alleged trafficking and its potential impact on security within affected communities.

Investigation Ongoing

Lieutenant-Colonel Uba confirmed that the suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing preliminary investigation. He added that follow-up operations are ongoing to identify, track, and dismantle the wider network involved in the trafficking and distribution of the illicit substances.

The Nigerian military has intensified operations in the North-East to weaken Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province factions by targeting their funding sources, logistics chains, and local collaborators.
