Tinubu Approves N70,000 Minimum Wage.

In a bid to cushion economic hardship, President Bola Tinubu has approved a new minimum wage structure of N70,000 for Nigerian workers. He took the decision following a very critical meeting with the leadership of the NLC and TUC at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.

This was affirmed, separately, in an announcement on X by the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Onanuga hinted that the President was bent on revising the law for the national minimum wage every three years to keep pace with economic realities.

“President Bola Tinubu has approved N70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers with a promise to review the national minimum wage law every three years. He had also promised to work out ways to assist the private sector and sub-nationals to pay the minimum wage,” the statement read.

The meeting, which was the second time the parties would meet within seven days, witnessed labour leaders commending President Buhari over his “fatherly gesture.” He again assured that he would exercise executive discretion towards the outstanding four months’ salaries owed to university unions.

Those in attendance at the Presidential Villa include persons such as Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of Labour and Employment; Comrade Joe Ajero, NLC President; and Comrade Festus Osifo, TUC President.

This will manifest in bringing succor to the leadership of Nigerian workers and further actualize the commitment of the administration in improving the living conditions for citizens.
