NGX Ends Christmas Eve in Bearish Territory with 0.36% Dip in All-Share Index

NGX Ends Christmas Eve in Bearish Territory with 0.36% Dip in All-Share Index

The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) closed today’s trading session in the bearish territory, marking the first time this week. The All-Share Index (ASI) experienced a dip of 0.36%, settling at 74,023.27 points—a decrease from yesterday’s remarkable all-time high of 74,289.02.

The equities market witnessed a substantial loss of N145 billion, resulting in a decline in market capitalization to N40.507 trillion. Trading volume saw a notable decrease to 423.30 million units, compared to the previous day’s 760.93 million units. However, there was an uptick in trading value, rising to N16.585 billion from yesterday’s N13.03 billion.

Top Traded Stocks:

In terms of volume, UNIVINSURE (-3.85%) led with 41.94 million units, followed closely by TRANSCORP (+3.90%) with 41.93 million units. MBENEFIT (+1.96%), JAIZBANK (+1.91%), and ZENITHBANK (-1.94%) rounded up the list with significant trading volumes.

Concerning value, GEREGU (0.00%) took the lead with N6.62 billion, followed by SEPLAT (0.00%) with N2.77 billion. ZENITHBANK (-1.94%), GTCO (+0.13%), and MTNN (-3.77%) also featured prominently in terms of trading value.

SWOOT and FUGAZ Update:

In the SWOOT category, ZENITHBANK (-1.94%) and MTNN (-3.77%) recorded losses, while GTCO (+0.13%) managed a marginal gain. Other category members—AIRTELAFRI, BUACEMENT, BUAFOODS, DANGCEM, and SEPLAT—experienced no price changes.

For tier-1 banks, trading sentiment leaned towards the negative, with ACCESSCORP (-0.43%), UBA (-1.54%), and ZENITHBANK (-1.94%) registering losses. GTCO (+0.13%) recorded a slight gain, and FBNH remained unchanged.

As the NGX closes for Christmas, investors remain vigilant amid the market’s dynamic movements.
