    Ejes Gist News reports that the coalition said it is now officially established that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in coordination with the United States military, carried out precision airstrikes against identified ISIS-linked elements in Sokoto State—an operation that was only publicly confirmed by Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs nearly 24 hours after it occurred.

    According to the coalition, the confirmation has exposed what it termed a “staggering contradiction” in the posture of the Bola Tinubu-led administration on foreign military involvement in Nigeria’s internal security affairs.

    The coalition recalled that barely weeks earlier, the Presidency, through the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, publicly attacked former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for stating that he would welcome U.S. military assistance if it contributed to improving Nigeria’s security situation.

     

    At the time, Onanuga reportedly accused Obi of endorsing foreign intervention, declaring that Nigerians would “never forget nor forgive” such a position.

    However, the coalition noted that the same administration has now confirmed and defended direct foreign military action on Nigerian soil, describing the shift as evidence of hypocrisy and poor governance.

     

    “Today, the same government that vilified a citizen for expressing a conditional policy position has endorsed and confirmed actual foreign military operations within Nigeria,” the coalition said in a statement. “This is the height of inconsistency and reflects an administration that speaks without thinking, attacks without reflection, and governs without a coherent national security communication strategy.”

     

    Reacting to the development, the Director of Media and Communication of the Big Tent Coalition, Charles Odibo, said the Tinubu administration owed Peter Obi an immediate, public, and unreserved apology.

     

    “You cannot demonise a prominent Nigerian for articulating a reasonable policy option and then proceed to implement that very option in practice,” Odibo said. “This flip-flop exposes a government that lacks clarity, coordination, and credibility in its approach to national security.”

     

    Beyond the demand for an apology, the coalition raised serious concerns about what it described as the Federal Government’s disorganised and delayed communication over an issue as sensitive as foreign military operations within Nigeria’s borders.

     

    The group pointed out that while U.S. President Donald Trump publicly announced the airstrikes, Nigerians were left in the dark until fragmented confirmations emerged from different government officials almost a day later.

    According to Odibo, the delay and inconsistency raised troubling questions about leadership, transparency, and the management of Nigeria’s sovereignty.

     

    The coalition questioned why the Presidency maintained silence if Nigeria was engaged in structured security cooperation with the United States, why Nigerians were subjected to conflicting narratives from different arms of government, and why a presidential spokesperson rushed to politicise what it described as a patriotic comment made by Obi.

     

    “The security of Nigeria is too serious to be reduced to propaganda, knee-jerk attacks, and partisan posturing,” the coalition said. “Leadership demands consistency, humility, and honesty with the Nigerian people.”

     

    The Big Tent Coalition called on President Bola Tinubu to formally direct his spokesperson to apologise to Peter Obi, restore discipline and coherence in official government communication on national security matters, and personally address Nigerians on the scope, rules, and implications of foreign security cooperation in the country.

     

    The group maintained that without clarity and accountability, public trust in government handling of national security issues would continue to erode.

    In a statement issued on Friday, the House of Representatives Spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, said the leadership of both chambers directed the Clerk to the National Assembly to re-gazette the Acts and issue Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the versions “duly passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.”

     

    Ejes Gist News reports that the directive followed growing public concern surrounding the passage, presidential assent, and publication in the Federal Government’s Official Gazette of the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025; and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025.

    According to the House, the concerns relate to “the harmonisation of Bills passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives, the documentation transmitted for presidential assent, and the versions of the Acts subsequently published in the Official Gazette.”

    Rotimi said the legislature was already addressing the issue strictly within its constitutional authority.

    “The House of Representatives wishes to assure the public that these matters are being addressed strictly within the constitutional and statutory remit of the National Assembly,” he said.

    He disclosed that the House recently constituted a seven-member Ad Hoc Committee after the matter was raised on the floor through a Point of Order on Privileges.

    According to the statement, the Ad Hoc Committee, working alongside other relevant committees and the management of the National Assembly, is conducting an institutional review to establish the sequence of events and identify any factors that may have contributed to the circumstances surrounding the legislative and administrative handling of the Acts.

    Rotimi explained that the review would include “a careful examination of any lapses, irregularities, or external interference, should any be established,” adding that the process is being carried out “in full conformity with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Acts Authentication Act, the Standing Orders of both chambers, and established parliamentary practice.”

    He said that as part of the process, the leadership of the National Assembly, under Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House Abbas Tajudeen, approved the re-gazetting to eliminate any ambiguity.

    “This administrative step is intended solely to authenticate and accurately reflect the legislative decisions of the National Assembly,” the statement said.

    The House stressed that the review does not amount to an admission of wrongdoing.

    “This review is strictly confined to institutional processes and procedures. It does not constitute, imply, or concede any defect in the exercise of legislative authority by the House of Representatives or the Senate,” the statement read.

    It further clarified that the action was taken “without prejudice to the powers, functions, or actions of any other arm or agency of government” and would not affect “any rights, obligations, or legal processes arising under the Constitution or any other applicable law.”

    Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the House said it remains “firmly committed to constitutionalism, separation of powers, due process, and the supremacy of the rule of law.”

    Rotimi added that where procedural or administrative refinements are identified, appropriate corrective measures would be taken in line with the law and established parliamentary conventions.

    The House also appealed to the public to exercise restraint.

    “Members of the public are respectfully urged to allow the National Assembly’s institutional processes to proceed without speculation or conjecture,” the statement said, assuring that the leadership remains committed to “transparency, accountability, and the faithful discharge of its constitutional responsibility as custodian of the legislative authority of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

    According to court filings unsealed after the arraignment, HSI agents had been monitoring Bamigboye from an unmarked law enforcement vehicle near his residence in Plymouth, Minnesota. Although unmarked, the vehicle was equipped with emergency lights and sirens.

     

     

    Investigators said agents were tracking a Kia Optima associated with Bamigboye when a Jeep SUV pulled up and parked beside the surveillance vehicle. Bamigboye was identified as the front-seat passenger, while Rekeya Frazier, described in court documents as his girlfriend, was behind the wheel.

    Suspect Allegedly Attempts to Evade Arrest

    Federal authorities alleged that Bamigboye became aware of the surveillance and attempted to conceal his identity by wearing a face mask and shifting items from the front seat to the rear of the Jeep. Frazier reportedly exited the vehicle briefly but remained close by.

    When agents approached the Jeep, displayed their badges, and identified themselves as law enforcement officers, Bamigboye—who had moved to the back seat—allegedly became confrontational after learning the officers intended to question him about his immigration status.

    FBI Alleges Federal Agent Was Taken Hostage

    An affidavit sworn by FBI Special Agent Terry Getsch stated that Bamigboye grabbed the headrest and instructed Frazier to flee the scene.

    “He shouted, ‘Drive! Drive! Drive! Get in the car and drive now,’ or words to that effect,” Agent Getsch told U.S. Magistrate Judge David Schultz.

    Prosecutors said one agent entered the Jeep’s front passenger seat to prevent it from moving, while another struggled with Bamigboye in the back seat. Despite the struggle, Frazier allegedly managed to start the vehicle, forcing one agent to jump clear to avoid being struck.

    Another agent remained inside the Jeep as it sped away.

    “Agent 1 was involuntarily transported in the Jeep as it drove away,” the FBI stated in court records.

    Chase and Armed Standoff

    While the Jeep was in motion, the agent repeatedly ordered Frazier to stop, warning that her actions would worsen the situation. Investigators said she pushed the agent’s hand away when he attempted to place the vehicle in park and threatened to crash the Jeep, claiming she would instead drive to a police station.

    Court documents said the agent, unfamiliar with the area and in Minnesota on a temporary assignment, feared he was being kidnapped.

    Meanwhile, the original surveillance vehicle pursued the Jeep with emergency lights and sirens activated. Bamigboye reportedly placed a 911 call during the pursuit, while the agent inside the Jeep identified himself as a federal officer and contacted HSI operations for immediate assistance.

    Authorities said the agent later drew his service firearm and again ordered Frazier to stop, but she refused.

    Arrest Near Police Station

    The pursuit ended when Frazier parked the Jeep outside the New Hope Police Department, approximately two miles from Bamigboye’s residence.

    As the vehicle slowed, Bamigboye allegedly jumped out and fled into a nearby Hy-Vee grocery store, where he was later apprehended by law enforcement officers.

    Frazier initially refused to exit the vehicle and was taken into custody after uniformed police officers arrived at the scene.

    Suspect Cites Past Trauma

    After initially declining to speak with investigators, Bamigboye later waived his Miranda rights, according to the FBI.

    Investigators said he admitted to struggling with a federal agent and instructing Frazier to drive away but denied that the officers properly identified themselves as law enforcement.

    Bamigboye reportedly told investigators that his actions were influenced by post-traumatic stress disorder linked to a previous kidnapping experience in Nigeria.

    “The defendant claimed his conduct was influenced by PTSD resulting from a past kidnapping while living in Nigeria,” Agent Getsch stated in the affidavit.

    Federal Charges Filed

    The FBI said there is probable cause to believe that Bamigboye and Frazier intentionally abducted a federal officer and engaged in physical contact with law enforcement while attempting to commit an additional felony.

    Prosecutors are pursuing charges under Title 18, Section 111 of the United States Code, which covers assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal officers.

    Bamigboye has since been formally charged following his arraignment before Magistrate Judge David Schultz in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Frazier is being prosecuted as an alleged accomplice, according to court records.

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who assumed office in May, embarked on an ambitious reform agenda to attract investment and address the prevailing cost-of-living crisis.     APC Senator Urges Tinubu to Suspend Tax Act Implementation Over Forgery Allegations

    Abuja – Former Senate Leader and All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, Ali Ndume, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to suspend the implementation of the newly passed Tax Act, citing allegations of forgery and discrepancies in the version signed into law

     

     

    Ejes Gist News reports that the controversy erupted after a member of the House of Representatives claimed that the version of the Tax Act passed by the National Assembly differs from the one subsequently gazetted by President Tinubu.

    In response, the House of Representatives established a committee to investigate the claims, even as plans to commence implementation on January 1 remain in place.

     

    In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, Ndume appealed to the President to halt the planned January rollout, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into the alleged alterations to the tax laws.

    “The President should verify whether the version of the law he signed was altered. Proceeding with implementation without addressing these concerns risks undermining the legitimacy of Nigeria’s tax system,” Ndume said.

     

     

    Ejes Gist News gathered that Ndume’s call aligns with growing demands from politicians, civil society organisations, and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to suspend the Act. Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), President of the NBA, warned that the ongoing controversy threatens the integrity, transparency, and credibility of Nigeria’s legislative process and urged a comprehensive inquiry.

     

     

    Ndume further recommended that President Tinubu constitute an ad hoc committee to probe the alleged forgery, alongside the House of Representatives’ ongoing investigation. He stressed that failing to resolve the matter could prolong the controversy and render the law difficult to implement effectively.

     

     

    He added that several stakeholders, including civil society groups, the Arewa community, and the NBA, have consistently called for the withdrawal of the Tax Act pending a proper investigation. “A small investigative committee should be established to examine the alleged forgery while the legislative inquiry continues,” Ndume noted.

     

     

    The Senator’s appeal intensifies the debate surrounding the Tax Act as the January implementation deadline approaches, raising questions about the law’s legitimacy and the need for urgent resolution.

    The Federal Government has raised fresh concerns over evolving methods being used by terrorist groups to collect ransom payments in Nigeria, warning that criminal networks are increasingly exploiting Point of Sale (PoS) operators to receive and move illicit funds.

     

    Security authorities say the development has complicated efforts to trace ransom payments and dismantle terrorism financing networks, as funds are quickly withdrawn and dispersed outside conventional banking channels.

     

    Ejes Gist News reports that the warning was issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Director-General of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Major General Adamu Laka, during the Centre’s 2025 end-of-year press briefing.

    Terrorists Shift to PoS Channels for Ransom Payments

    Major General Laka disclosed that ransom payments remain a major source of funding for terrorist and kidnapping groups operating across the country.

    According to him, criminals now provide victims’ families with PoS-linked account details rather than personal bank accounts. Once funds are transferred, PoS operators release the cash directly to the criminals.

     

    “You see a transfer made by terrorists, and when you investigate the account, it belongs to a PoS operator. The kidnappers give out the PoS operator’s number, the money is transferred, and they go to collect it,” Laka said.

    He explained that this method enables criminals to avoid direct interaction with formal banking systems, thereby reducing the chances of detection by financial intelligence units.

    Challenges for Security and Financial Investigations

    The NCTC Director-General noted that the rapid withdrawal of funds by PoS operators poses a significant challenge to law enforcement agencies.

    He said security agencies often discover that money has already been converted to cash before investigators can trace its movement or identify the final beneficiaries.

    Beyond financial channels, the Federal Government also expressed concern over the increasing use of social media platforms by terrorist groups.

    He said these platforms are used to promote attacks, display looted items, intimidate communities, and communicate with supporters.

    According to him, such online activities contribute to radicalisation, propaganda dissemination, and recruitment efforts.

    Laka disclosed that Nigerian security agencies are engaging directly with social media companies to identify and remove accounts linked to terrorism.

    He explained that while social media platforms are primarily driven by business and user growth, authorities continue to highlight the national security risks posed by certain content.

    “These platforms are businesses and are interested in growing their user base, but we engage them and explain the implications of certain posts on national security, and we take them down,” he said.

    He added that cooperation with technology companies has led to the takedown of several accounts and pages associated with extremist activities.
