  • It’s Shameful Kwara Now Has Illegitimate LG Chairmen, Councillors – Saraki

It’s Shameful Kwara Now Has Illegitimate LG Chairmen, Councillors – Saraki

Former President of the Senate Bukola Saraki said it is a shame that the 16 local government areas in Kwara State now have chairmen and councillors who would be in office without legitimacy and people’s mandate.

The statement comes after the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWSIEC, had declared the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winners of the local government elections held yesterday in the state.

The chairman of the KWSIEC, Baba Okanla, who announced the results, said APC won all 16 local government area chairmanship positions and secured all 193 councillorship seats.

However, in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, Saraki stated that the people have sent a clear signal to the state government that it has not made any significant, positive impact on their lives after 64 months in office.

The ex-governor maintained that the people mobilised themselves to the polling units for Saturday’s local government election but met the absence of electoral officials and shoddy preparations by the electoral body.

He, therefore, hailed the people for standing firm against what he described as deliberately concocted frustrations.

“Last Saturday, in a manner that went beyond partisan consideration and gave expression to the protection of community interests, people from Kwara mobilised themselves to the polling units and met the absence of electoral officials and shoddy preparations by the electoral body.

“Whatever results the electoral body eventually declared, our people have sent a clear signal to a government that has not made any significant, positive impact on their lives after 64 months in office. It is a shame that the 16 local government areas now have chairmen and councillors who would be in office without legitimacy and people’s mandate,” he said.

Tinubu Rejects Retirement Age Bill for National Assembly Civil Servants.

President Bola Tinubu has officially rejected a bill aimed at increasing the retirement age of civil servants in the National Assembly by five years.

The announcement was made during a Senate plenary session on Thursday, where Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s letter.

While the letter did not specify reasons for the rejection, it marked a significant moment in the legislative process.

The Senate had initially dismissed the bill after intense debate but later reconsidered and aligned with a similar proposal passed by the House of Representatives.

This proposed legislation sought to raise the retirement age for civil servants to 65 years or 40 years of service, whichever comes first. Currently, the law mandates a retirement age of 60 years or 35 years of service.

    Tinubu Rejects Retirement Age Bill

In his letter, President Tinubu commended the Senate for its diligent efforts in drafting and passing the bill, acknowledging the comprehensive work that went into its formulation.

He stated, “Upon thorough examination and careful consultation, I have decided to withhold my assent to the bill. This decision is made in accordance with the powers vested in me by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The President urged that his decision be received with understanding, indicating the need for consensus and cooperation in legislative matters.

As the National Assembly navigates the complexities of public service regulations, the rejection of this bill underscores the ongoing discussions surrounding civil service reform in Nigeria.

  • NBA Urges AGF, NSA to Investigate Bobrisky’s Alleged Bribery in EFCC Case

NBA Urges AGF, NSA to Investigate Bobrisky’s Alleged Bribery in EFCC Case

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to conduct an independent investigation into serious allegations made against controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

In a viral video shared by blogger Martins Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan, it was alleged that Bobrisky paid ₦15 million to officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to dismiss money laundering charges against him. This claim surfaced in connection with Bobrisky’s naira spraying incident that led to a six-month prison sentence earlier this year.

NBA President Afam Osigwe expressed deep concern over the allegations, stating that any EFCC officers found complicit in the bribery must face dismissal and prosecution. The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has initiated an investigation into these bribery claims and invited both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan for questioning.

In the controversial video, VeryDarkMan also suggested that Bobrisky paid additional sums to secure favorable conditions during his imprisonment. Bobrisky has vehemently denied these allegations, prompting the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to launch their own inquiries.

The NBA, in its statement, emphasized the urgent need for a thorough investigation, saying, “The allegation of bribery to reduce or drop charges is very disturbing.” They demanded transparency from the NCoS regarding Bobrisky’s incarceration, particularly concerning claims that he did not serve his time in a correctional facility as mandated.

The NBA further insisted, “If it is proven that he was allowed to serve his sentence outside a Correctional Facility, in breach of the law and a court order, the officers and officials responsible must be prosecuted and dismissed from service.”

The organization urged for an independent investigation into the claims that Bobrisky bribed officials to serve his prison sentence at home rather than in a correctional facility. Such actions, they argued, could significantly undermine public confidence in the criminal justice system.

Osigwe reiterated the importance of accountability, stating that if these allegations hold any truth, they could severely tarnish the integrity of the correctional system and signal an urgent need for reforms in prosecutorial and correctional processes.

To ensure due process in this matter, the NBA plans to appoint eminent members of the legal profession to oversee the investigation.

  • How My Wife Convinced Me To Have Triplets At 59 – Comedian Ali Baba (Video)

Ace Nigerian comedian, Atunyota Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba, has spoken about how his wife, Mary, convinced him to have three sons at the age of 59.

Ali Baba explained that his wife had always wanted a son, having had two daughters, especially after their children travelled abroad, leaving the house feeling empty.

He stated this on Monday, September 23, during a podcast interview, with Stephen Akintayo.

Alibaba said: “Madam had always wanted to have a son. She had two daughters and we talked about it. So, I told her I didn’t want to be having school runs and attending PTA meetings. One truth is the net becomes empty when all the children have to go abroad to study and the discussion comes up again.

“By the way, she had said wanted to adopt two or three children to take care of them. One day, she then said instead of adopting, let’s just have our own. I was like ok but the way the economy is and she replied you said the economy is bad, I said yes and she said, ‘have you stopped paying house rent for people?’ I said no. She asked again, ‘Have you stopped paying school fees?’ and I said no.

“We have a foundation- the Purple Girl Foundation taking care of over 120 people in schools from primary to university. Beyond that foundation, we have people we are paying school fees for and people we are sending to law school. So, she said all those people you are helping, do you remember the economy?

“She said if you think about it, the reason why God put you in this position might be more than taking care of yourself. So I said okay, let’s do one and she now said if we do one you know that IVFD fails so let’s do two.”

He said he agreed to fertilise two eggs after her request.

“So, I said, let’s do two and then one of the eggs slitted into two and that was how it became three. When it became three she and the doctor knew that it had become three but they didn’t want to tell me. So they were like sometimes when we ask God for one million, he gives you two million. When God want to bless you you don’t know how he wants to bless you, he will just do.

“So, I was like where is this going to? She said the eggs split into two and I said it was two we were looking for and she said it now three. Then we have three boys.”

On April 1, Alibaba announced the birth of his triplets.

However, because of the date, many assumed it was an April Fool’s prank until the couple dedicated their triplets in church.

Army Discharges Female Soldier, Ogunleye, Who Accused Superior of Sexual Harassment on Medical Grounds.

The Nigerian Army has discharged Private Ruth Ogunleye, the female soldier who accused senior officers, including Colonel I.B Abdulkareem, of sexual harassment.

Ogunleye was discharged on medical grounds following a thorough investigation into her claims, which the Army says found no evidence to support her allegations.

Ogunleye had made the accusations on TikTok earlier this year, alleging that Abdulkareem and other senior officers made her life unbearable after she refused his sexual advances.

She also claimed that she was forcibly injected, removed from her residence, and confined to a psychiatric hospital.

In response, the Army launched an investigation, ordered by Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. The probe, according to Army spokesman Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, found that Colonel Abdulkareem did not commit the alleged offenses.

Nwachukwu added that Ogunleye’s behaviour and mental health concerns became apparent during the investigation, leading to a medical evaluation.

Following the medical evaluation, which confirmed her vulnerability, the Army opted to discharge Ogunleye with a 50% pension for life despite her not meeting the required years of service for a full pension. The Army also refrained from taking disciplinary actions against her in light of her condition.

Ogunleye has received other benefits, including terminal allowances and contributions to the Army Welfare Insurance Scheme.

2027 Presidency: Southeast Must Not Be Ignored, Marginalized – Ohanaeze Chieftain Cautions

A chieftain of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, has warned against nominating a Northern presidential candidate to obstruct the chances of the South in 2027.

Isiguzoro cautioned political parties against ignoring or marginalizing the Southeast ahead of 2027.

The factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, called for equity, fairness, and justice as the country looks towards 2027.

In a statement he signed, Isiguzoro said: “As we look toward the future, it is imperative that we remain steadfast in our convictions. The sacrifices made today will indubitably shape tomorrow’s political landscape, and it is the collective responsibility of all true patriots to uphold the tenets of equity and justice in our political pursuits.

“Moreover, this unfolding narrative serves as a grave warning to those who may contemplate obstructing the aspirations for a Southern presidency in 2027 by endorsing a Northern candidate.

“Those who previously sought to sidestep the legitimate entitlements of the Southeast during the Atiku Abubakar candidacy in 2023 are witnessing their gradual relegation to political obscurity.

“The trajectory of this betrayal is clear: such actions carry the weight of consequences that cannot be overlooked.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo reaffirms our unwavering belief that the voice of the Southeast must not be silenced or marginalized.

“It is our collective responsibility to champion principles of justice, fairness, and respect for democratic tenets in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“As we navigate the ever-evolving political terrain, may we remain vigilant in our commitment to foster an environment that honors the aspirations of all Nigerians, particularly those from the Southeast.”

Controversial Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, has made a startling revelation, claiming that he never spent a day behind bars during his prison sentence in 2024 for naira abuse.

In a voice recording shared by influencer VeryDarkMan on Tuesday, Bobrisky allegedly disclosed that after being convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment, he avoided prison time altogether.

According to the recording, Bobrisky stated that his “godfather” arranged for him to stay in a lodge rather than serve time in the correctional facility.

Bobrisky admitted in the recording that officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were paid ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him. He went on to reveal that prison authorities placed him in a lodge for the duration of his sentence, instructing him to remain out of sight and not disclose the special arrangement.

Bobrisky was initially arrested in April 2024 by the EFCC in Lagos and sentenced to six months without the option of a fine for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria’s naira policy. After serving over four months of his sentence, Bobrisky was reportedly released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on August 5, 2024.

Big Win for Wike as Court Rules Against PDP NWC, Governors, BoT

The Federal High Court in Abuja has barred the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its Governors, National Working Committee (NWC), and Board of Trustees (BoT) from dissolving or interfering with the Pro-Wike Executive Committees in Rivers State.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu on Wednesday, came in response to a suit filed by Aaron Chukwuemeka, leader of the PDP Rivers State Executive Committee, along with other state, local government, and ward members.

The court directed that the leadership of the PDP EXCO in Rivers State—loyal to Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor—should not be dissolved by the PDP national body, governors, or BoT.

The ruling effectively prohibits the formation of any temporary committees to replace the current leadership.

This decision comes amid an ongoing rift between Wike and the incumbent Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, with tensions flaring within the party.

The court’s order also prevents the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing any new individuals or groups apart from those duly elected in the state, local, and ward elections held between July and August 2024.

The plaintiffs, represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Dr. Joshua Musa, argued that the PDP was planning to dissolve the legally constituted EXCOs and replace them with temporary committees. They claimed that such actions would result in unfair treatment and financial losses for them.

The court has scheduled a hearing on the case for October 4, 2024.
