The match saw Liverpool starting brightly but failing to convert their opportunities into goals. Jarrod Bowen broke the deadlock for West Ham with a header just before halftime, putting Liverpool on the back foot once again.

However, Liverpool quickly responded after the break, with Andy Robertson finding the net to level the score. They then took the lead through an own goal, but their advantage was short-lived as Antonio equalized for West Ham.

The draw leaves Liverpool in third place with 75 points, trailing behind Manchester City and Arsenal. With only a few games left in the season, Liverpool’s chances of lifting the title are dwindling, and manager Juergen Klopp acknowledged the difficulty of the situation.

West Ham, on the other hand, maintained their position in the top half of the table with the draw, keeping their hopes of European qualification alive.

Despite Liverpool’s disappointment, Klopp praised his players’ efforts and remained hopeful for the remaining games. Meanwhile, West Ham manager David Moyes commended his team’s resilience and ability to compete against top sides.

The result leaves Liverpool facing an uphill battle in their pursuit of the title, while West Ham continue to defy expectations with their strong performances in the league.

  • Nnamdi Kanu Can’t Be Sacrificed – IPOB Cautions Justice Nyako Against Jailing Its Leader

Nnamdi Kanu Can’t Be Sacrificed – IPOB Cautions Justice Nyako Against Jailing Its Leader

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday warned that its leader Nnamdi Kanu cannot be sacrificed to save corrupt politicians.

It cautioned Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court against jailing Kanu.

The group also charged Nyako to step down from Kanu’s trial, alleging that she had been compromised.

In a statement by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, IPOB urged Western countries and human rights organisations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Inter-Society organisation and other reputable human rights organisations to prevail over the Nigerian Government, President Bola Tinubu, and Justice Nyako to save the country’s judicial system by releasing Kanu.

The statement reads: “The global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by the indomitable and charismatic leader Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu reiterate our demand that Justice Binta Nyako step down from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case. Justice Binta Nyako is already compromised because the Federal Government of Nigeria is pointing a gun on her head to jail Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in order to free her husband and son from their EFCC case.

“IPOB will never allow the Federal Government to use our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as bait to entice Justice Binta Nyako to carry out their ugly agenda. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu cannot be sacrificed to save the corrupt and treasury looters, Nyako Father and Son team.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has not committed any offence known to law. His only offence is that he is championing Biafra’s self-determination movement. If Justice Binta Nyako succumbs to the Fulani government’s pressure and jails Mazi Nnamdi, she will still be eliminated by the same government to cover it up so that it can not be traced back to them.

“Therefore, Justice Binta Nyako will save her life and that of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by stepping down from the case. BINTA NYAKO must understand that Mazi Nnamdi KANU belongs to every South Easterner and they don’t want to see anything ugly happen to him. The calamity that will befall the country will be better imagined. Bola Ahmed Tinubu and BINTA Nyako must save their country by releasing Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu.

“The Buhari Government and the former Attorney General, Abubakar Malami used Justice Binta Nyako to keep Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case ongoing perpetually. Also, the current government of Bola Ahamed Tinubu and his AGF Lateef Fagbemi has continued blackmailing Justice Binta Nyako with her husband and son’s cases at EFCC.

“Justice Binta Nyako is under gunpoint to either jail Mazi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu or her husband and son will be jailed by EFCC. Justice Binta Nyako is at a crossroads as to jail an innocent man or allow her husband and son to go to jail. Justice Binta Nyako is human and will certainly do anything to save her husband and son from serving a prolonged jail sentence. IPOB understands the precarious situation Justice Binta Nyako has found herself in. That is why we demand that she steps down from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case.

“IPOB is calling Binta Nyako to step down from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case. She should avoid plunging Nigeria into an unimaginable crisis. Binta Nyako must redeem herself from this case or posterity will never be kind to her and her generation. Justice Nyako should save herself from the mess that her husband has put her in by stepping down.

“Justice Binta Nyako is not the only High Court Judge in Nigeria. But she is the preferred judge to the Nigerian government because they are using her husband’s and son’s pending fraud case with EFCC to blackmail her into submission and to do the will of the Government. Justice Binta Nyako’s hands are tied and cannot deliver justice for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB.

“Biafrans both home and the diaspora demand that Justice Binta Nyako step down from Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case without delay. She will not deliver a fair judgment because she is under uncontrollable pressure from the Federal Government of Nigeria to jail an innocent man to save her husband and son from EFCC. Intimidating Justice Binta Nyako, a wife and mother to choose between saving her child and husband from imprisonment for unproven fraud or to continue the illegal detention and jailing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is pure evil. IPOB will not allow our leader to be sacrificed for the sins of the Nyakos and that is why we repeat our demand that Justice Binta Nyako step down without further delays.”

  • Nigerian Naira Is One Of The Worlds Best-Performing Currencies Today – President Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that his administration will continue to make difficult decisions that will benefit Nigerians in the long run.

Speaking at a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands, in The Hague on Thursday, April 25, President Tinubu said Nigeria had seen the worst of storms, yet he was not afraid of the consequences of his actions since they were in the best long-term interest of the people.

Noting that Nigeria offered immense trade opportunities to the Netherlands across a pool of sectors, President Tinubu, who met Rutte at his official residence, known as The Catshuis, in The Hague, also stated that his administration was already deepening reforms to enhance the investment climate.

The president disclosed that Nigeria was well-positioned to power the clean energy future of Europe and the world with its high-grade lithium deposits.

He reiterated that Nigerians had tremendous confidence in themselves and his confidence in the Nigerian people gave him the courage to make difficult decisions on their behalf, given his full awareness of the need to give Nigerians the long-term tools they need to succeed.

“I am a determined leader of my people. I have and will continue to take the difficult decisions that will benefit our people, even if there is short-term pain. We have gone through the worst of the storms. I am unafraid of the consequences once I know that my actions are in the best long-term interests of all Nigerians.

Taking a holistic view of the world order, there is a tremendous opportunity between us across trade spheres, but especially in solid minerals, where we have high-grade lithium deposits that we know can power the clean energy future of the world.

There is excellent value-additive opportunity in Nigeria. The world knows us for oil. They will soon know us for greater innovative exploits in other areas.”

The President also added that Nigeria boasts of a highly energetic and self-motivated youth population.

“We have an extremely dynamic youth population in Nigeria. It is a young country. Seventy per cent of our people are under the age of 30, and when we are referring to 200 million plus citizens, it represents both a massive workforce and a massive market for Dutch and other international investors.

If our young people know they can achieve a good future in Nigeria, they will stay home and build our nation to greatness.

Lawful migration of trained Nigerian minds and hands will be a benefit to Europe, and irregular migration will no longer be a source of fear in Europe if we partner effectively.

This is what we want and it is why we are adamant about providing student loans and new credit opportunities to not only enhance the skills of our people but also to ensure that they can access a higher quality of life within their legitimate incomes. We will transform our economy, and our young people will be the reason why.

    ”the President said

    On the state of the nation’s currency, Tinubu said;

“The Nigerian naira is one of the world’s best-performing currencies today. We took the necessary risk, and all resilient Nigerians kept faith with us. They will be rewarded, and the reward will only be greater as we partner effectively with you on new opportunities for development. As leaders, we must take decisions for the benefit of our nations, and we cannot shy away from that.” he said.

He expressed his firm commitment to developing the developmental partnership between the European Union (EU) and Nigeria, stating that symbiotic economic ties remain the best long-term path to sustainable and mutual prosperity rather than one-sided relationships in which bilateral trade is skewed too much in one direction.

  • Delta Bloodbath: Villagers Shun Reps Hearing Over Fear Of Arrest

On Wednesday, members of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence visited Warri, Delta State, for the planned investigative hearing regarding the killing of 17 military personnel in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The investigative hearing was in line with the resolution of the House during its sitting on March 19 to investigate the remote causes of the incident.

The PUNCH reports that 17 military personnel, including a Lieuetenant Colonel, two Majors and a Captain, were ambushed and killed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen while they were in Okuama on a peacekeeping mission.

Following the incident, military personnel, in what was considered to be a reprisal, demolished and razed houses in the Okuama riverine community, with residents taking refuge in the neighbouring bushes of Ewu Kingdom.

The House committee members, led by Babajimi Benson, arrived at the sitting venue at the Government House Annex, Edjeba, in Warri South Local Government Area of the state, at about 10.45 a.m. but waited endlessly for indigenes of the troubled Okuama community to make their presentations.

However, while the waiting lasted, sources said the villagers failed to show up for “fear of arrest or intimidation by the military.”

However, the committee chairman, while addressing journalists, said the committee had received useful memoranda on the incident from some stakeholders.

Benson also disabused the minds of Okuama indigenes who might be worried about their safety, assuring them that “there would be no witch-hunt whatsoever.”

He advised members of the public who are willing to submit a memorandum to do so in 10 copies and submit the same to the committee within one week.
He said they could submit such memoranda to the clerk of the committee, Musa Aliyu at the National Assembly, Abuja, or at the public investigative hearing.

He said, “The House of Representatives Committee on Defence looks forward to a robust engagement and meaningful contributions from all stakeholders.

“We came in yesterday (Tuesday). We met Governor Oborevwori and we told him our mission. We’re here today (Wednesday) to see members of the community on camera and by way of memoranda.

“We’ve received a lot of memoranda from them but they’ve not turned out physically. The window is extended for a week. So we’re still expecting a lot more memorandum from the people of Okuama community.

“We’ve assured the governor and the people that we have the full backing of the House of Representatives to ensure that this matter is reviewed from both sides and followed to a logical conclusion.”

Benson assured the villagers of protection, urging them to come forward.

He said, “The community people are scared to come out vis-a-vis another list of wanted people being released. They have sent in a memorandum and we’re still giving them a week to turn in a further memorandum in the next one week.

“The Clerk of the house is receiving the memory. We’ve dedicated our time to ensure justice is done and people return to their community, perhaps better than it was before. We need to be fully armed with enough information before we visit Okuama. We will visit the place after hearing from the victims themselves,”

    he said.

Renowned Elder Statesman Calls for Resignation of PDP Acting National Chairman

Renowned elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark has penned an open missive to the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum, urging him to step down from his position.

In his letter, Clark, a distinguished figure in the Ijaw community, accuses Damgum of being under the influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The former Federal Commissioner for Information criticizes the recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP, labeling it as a farce and evidence of Wike’s dominant control over the party.

Clark expresses regret for any potential discomfort his letter may cause Damgum, stating that they have never crossed paths before. However, he emphasizes that he has been closely monitoring Damgum’s actions since assuming the role of Acting National Chairman of the PDP.

He highlights his prior warning in a press release preceding the NEC meeting, cautioning that without decisive action, the party would face collapse. Clark laments that his apprehensions were validated by the proceedings of the NEC meeting, where critical issues facing the party were sidestepped, with undue influence from Wike.

Clark criticizes the NEC’s apparent weakness in confronting Wike’s influence, lamenting the emphasis on reconciliation over disciplinary measures. He questions the sincerity of the PDP’s opposition to certain government policies when Wike, whom he describes as a major party financier, holds a significant role in the government.

Furthermore, Clark raises concerns over Wike’s involvement in both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his leadership of the APC’s Caretaker Committee in Rivers State. He accuses the NEC and National Working Committee (NWC) of turning a blind eye to the situation in Rivers State due to alleged external control over Damgum.

Clark urges the Acting National Chairman to either take decisive action to salvage the party or step down from his position to prevent its collapse under his leadership.

This move represents a notable departure in the country’s energy management strategy, given Tanzania’s historical struggles with persistent power shortages.

Charting a New Course in Energy Management

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa unveiled the announcement, emphasizing the cessation of operations at the flagship Mwalimu Nyerere Hydroelectric Station, a facility capable of meeting the energy demands of major cities such as Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s bustling commercial center. Addressing the Surplus of Electricity

The decision to shutter the power stations arises from an unexpected surplus of electricity in the national grid. This surplus has been attributed to a confluence of factors, including heightened generation capacity and diminished demand. Through the closure of these power plants, the government seeks to curtail wastage and ensure the more efficient utilization of resources.

    Implications and Advantages

The closure of the power stations is anticipated to yield several advantages, including:

    • Diminished energy wastage
    • Augmented efficiency in energy management
    • Heightened stability in the provision of electricity
    • Potential economic savings for consumers

    A Pivot Towards Sustainability

This action by the Tanzanian government has been lauded as a significant stride toward achieving sustainability within the country’s energy sector. By confronting the surplus of electricity head-on and enacting proactive measures to govern energy resources, Tanzania is affirming its commitment to a more sustainable future.

Tanzania’s decision to close five hydroelectric power stations represents a pioneering maneuver that underscores the nation’s proactive approach to energy management.

  • Police Rescue Three, Kill 8 Bandits In Bauchi

Three abducted victims have been rescued by the Bauchi Police Command, in collaboration with local hunters.

The command equally killed eight bandits operating between the Bauchi and Plateau states borders in the operation carried out on April 22, 2024, following credible information received regarding their suspicious activities.

A statement issued on Thursday by the spokesman of the command, SP Ahmed Wakil, revealed that the detectives deployed from Gumau, Tilde, and Tulu divisions encountered armed bandits during their routine patrol and engaged them in a firefight, resulting in the neutralisation of four suspected kidnappers.

Two of the suspects, who later died, confessed to multiple kidnapping incidents across Bauchi and Plateau states, including the heinous killing of a village head in Ruruwai village, Lame District, Toro LGA, Bauchi State, on March 17, 2024.

“Based on the information provided by the late suspects, the detectives proceeded to the kidnappers’ hideout to rescue three kidnapped victims from Dokayel village, who were taken captive on April 20, 2024.

“In a subsequent firefight with the remaining accomplices guarding the hostages, four kidnappers were also neutralised and the three captives were safely rescued without any ransom paid,

  • Why We Withdrew Our Officers From Kano Anti-Corruption Commission Police

The Kano State Police Command has responded to the recent withdrawal of police officers from the state anti-corruption commission.

A statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the development was sequel to routine staff audit being carried out by the command.

He said, “The Kano State Police Command had recalled police officers posted to Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), with a view to conducting staff audit aimed at ascertaining the exact number of police officers seconded to the commission as well as to understand the reporting line and nature of duties each police officer is performing since their initial deployment to the commission in the year 2015.

“The exercise was simply a response to series of reports received through the Command’s Complaint Response Unit (CRU), portraying policemen attached to the commission as being highhanded and deviating from the expected role of providing static guard and other duties at the commission.”
The statement clarified that “members of the public are to note that the objective of the ongoing staff audit is basically to address the litany of complaints as reported by sections of the media.”

“The action further became imperative, so as to correct the obvious anomalies in the operations of the commission as police officers primarily deployed to static guards and other duties were being used to effect arrest and carry out investigation of cases which clearly is a deviation from their originally assigned mandate and must be corrected. In totality, the step is towards ensuring a better and effective service delivery by the policemen devoid of abuse of process in the interest of the people.

“It will be recalled that similar exercises were conducted in the past from the inception of the Commission in the year 2015 and the men were returned at the conclusion of such exercises,

    ” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the command further revealed that the Inspector-General of Police had directed the immediate return of a number of police officers, providing guard at the commission’s office, who have gone through the audit process to continue with their duties.

“It is nevertheless the position of the command that should the commission require more policemen for other duties than what has been expressly approved by the IGP, the commission may apply to the IGP to grant further approvals for professional officers with specific training in fields such as investigations and prosecution to be appropriately seconded to it.

“Members of the public are thus enjoined to disregard the current perception being portrayed by a section of the the media, that aligned the objective to political witch-hunt, as the Police Command will ever remain professional and keep performing its statutory roles of protecting lives and property of all people according to the provisions of the extant laws of the country,”

    it added.
