    “The late learned Senior Advocate also served the nation in various other capacities at different times, one of which was as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice from 1997 to 1999 and later as two-term Governor from 2017 till his demise.

    Port Harcourt, December 28, 2023— In a bold move, elders and leaders from Rivers State have penned an open letter to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, cautioning him against executing the resolution formulated during a recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

    The purpose of the meeting was to address the lingering political crisis in the state.

    The elders, led by former Rivers State governor, Chief Rufus Ada-George, expressed their apprehension in two separate open letters dated December 24, 2023.

    These letters were addressed to President Tinubu and Governor Fubara, respectively, and were shared with the media in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

    Describing the resolution as nothing short of a “death sentence,” the elders contended that it exhibited a clear bias in favor of Fubara’s estranged political mentor and former governor, Nyesom Wike. According to their perspective, the directive document was deemed lopsided and skewed, disadvantaging Governor Fubara and the interests of the Rivers State populace.

    The elders, in their written correspondence, challenged the legitimacy of Tinubu’s authority to overturn the decision of a court of competent jurisdiction. They criticized Governor Fubara’s Christmas Day broadcast, where he expressed intentions to implement the resolution, calling it into question.

    The signatories of the open letters included prominent figures such as Chief Rufus Ada-George, Dr. Gabriel Toby, Ibim Princewill, Rear Adm. P. Fingesi (retd.), Emeritus Prof. Dagogo Fubara, HRH Iraron, Ede Obolo, Anabs Sara-Igbe, Senator Bennett Birabi, Ms. Annkio Briggs, Captain Nwankwo, Prof. A.W. Obianime, Prof. E. T. Bristol, High Chief Marcus Atata, Senator Wilson Ake, Dr. Silva Opusunju, Sen Andrew Uchendu, Kalada Iruenabere, Atamuno Atamuno, Prof. N O Nyenke, and Godwin Abbey.

    The elders queried Governor Fubara on the proclamation of the Presidential Peace Proclamation, asserting that it posed a serious threat to legal and constitutional rights. They questioned whether the President had the authority to overturn a court ruling, emphasizing the importance of the separation of powers.

    Highlighting a significant development, the elders mentioned that the seats of cross-carpeting members had been declared vacant by the Speaker, Rt Hon Ehie Edison, through an ex parte order from the Federal High Court Port Harcourt division.

    They criticized the directives given by President Tinubu, stating that Governor Fubara was coerced into compliance with an action plan that overstepped constitutional boundaries.

    Abuja, December 28, 2023 – The Chairman of Titan Trust Bank Limited, Babatunde Lemo, faces potential consequences as the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Special Investigator rejects his plea to postpone a crucial meeting scheduled for December 28, 2023.

    In a letter dated December 27, 2023, Deputy Commissioner of Police Eloho Okpoziakpo, Head of Operations at the Office of the Special Investigator, communicated the denial of Lemo’s request for rescheduling until January 7.

    The investigator warned that the absence of Lemo and other major shareholders from the meeting might result in the forfeiture of their shares and interests in Titan Trust Bank and Union Bank Nigeria Plc.

    Lemo, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was summoned by Special Investigator Jim Obazee in connection with Titan Trust Bank’s acquisition of Union Bank of Nigeria Plc.

    The investigation report by Obazee alleges the use of proxies by a former CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, to establish Titan Trust Bank and acquire Union Bank with ill-gotten wealth.

    The directive requires Lemo to report to the Department of Force Intelligence opposite the Force headquarters in Abuja today, where he will be questioned by a team of detectives probing the Union Bank acquisition. Furthermore, Lemo is instructed to be accompanied by the major shareholders of Titan Trust Bank, Mr. Cornelius Vink, and Rahul Savara, for the meeting with the special investigators.

    Titan Trust Bank Chairman/Shareholders Fails To Get Meeting Rescheduled

    Despite Lemo’s lawyer, G. Elias, requesting a meeting shift in a letter dated December 27, citing Lemo’s absence from Nigeria, the investigator stood firm on the scheduled meeting. The letter from Elias explained that Lemo and the major investors would not be in Nigeria until the second week of January 2024 and pledged their commitment to attend the meeting as soon as they return.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has directed four of its Directors to retire in adherence to the eight-year tenure policy for public service directors, as outlined in a circular.

    Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, announced this on Wednesday, December 27.

    While not revealing the names, Olumekun stated that two directors held leadership positions at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, and the other two served as Administrative Secretaries in the states. Notably, the directive does not apply to those in the medical cadre.

    According to the statement, “In compliance with the Federal Government Circular HSCF/SPSO/268/T3/2/37 issued on 27th July 2023, the Commission has sanctioned the enforcement of a policy necessitating the retirement of all Directors with eight years or more of service in the public sector.

    Consequently, four Directors of the Commission will commence terminal leave—two heading departments at the National Headquarters and two serving as Administrative Secretaries in our State offices.
