Peter Obi did not stop at highlighting the problem but also issued a call to action for Nigerian youths to reignite their interest in books. He emphasized the transformative power of reading, asserting that it nurtures critical thinking and analytical abilities crucial for success in today’s intricate world.

“Readers are leaders they say. Reading will help the youths to build their critical thinking and analytical ability to succeed in an ever-complex world,” he tweeted.

The Labour Party stalwart concluded his statement by reiterating his commitment to fostering a “New Nigeria” that actively supports and encourages the nation’s talented youth. He envisions a future where these youths can discover their innate abilities, pursue their passions, and hone their skills for the collective progress of society.

Insecurity: Tinubu can’t fix in 6 months what Buhari failed at in 8 years – Shehu Sani

Shehu Sani Calls for Reflection as Northern Insecurity persists under Tinubu’s leadership.

In a thought-provoking statement on his verified Facebook page, former lawmaker Shehu Sani has urged Northerners to reflect on their response to the persistent insecurity in the region under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. Sani highlighted the apparent hypocrisy in criticizing Tinubu for issues that persisted during the eight-year tenure of former President Buhari.

Sani pointed out the historical tolerance of insecurity in the North during the Buhari administration, emphasizing the reluctance to criticize the past administration even in the face of challenges. He recalled facing insults, even from the Kaduna State Government and the ruling party, when addressing issues such as kidnappings and killings on the Senate floor.

Shehu Sani Words on Facebook Reads:

“The hypocrisy of many people in the North is how they tolerated insecurity in the North during the eight years of Buhari and are now voicing out against it under Tinubu.

“It’s too early to forget how they shielded the past administration from criticism, it became almost a sin or taboo to criticize the past administration. At one time, all the Nation’s security, intelligence and defence apparatuses were headed by Northerners.

“Each time I stood on the floor of the Senate to speak about the kidnappings and killings in the North, I only got insulted even by the Kaduna State Government and the ruling party.

“The North should look inward and find solutions to its security challenges. What the man from Daura has not solved for 8 years, the man from Lagos can’t solve in 6 months, even though he has the responsibility and obligation to tackle it.”

As the debate on the North’s security situation intensifies, Shehu Sani’s words serve as a call for a more nuanced and self-reflective approach to the challenges faced by the region, transcending political affiliations and focusing on finding lasting solutions.

Plateau killings: Why military failed to stop killing of over 200 Nigerians – Defence HQ

Maj-Gen Buba Edward, the Director of Defence Media Operations, in a press briefing provided insights into the Nigerian military’s challenges in preventing the coordinated attacks on Plateau communities that resulted in the tragic killing of over 200 people.

Edward explained that the vast and dispersed nature of the Bokkos and Barkin Ladi areas, spanning about 2,315 square kilometers with over 350 villages, posed significant difficulties for the troops.

He emphasized that the rugged and mostly inaccessible terrain, coupled with distances of over 90 kilometers between some villages and troops’ locations, impacted the reaction time to incidents.

Detailing the events of the attacks, Edward revealed that on the night of December 23, 2023, armed militant herders carried out unprovoked attacks on Kambarpeli village in the Bokkos LGA while locals were asleep. Over 100 marauding militants wreaked havoc before troops could reach the location.

Similarly, on December 24, 2023, troops received 36 distress calls reporting coordinated attacks by armed militant herders on isolated villages in Bokkos and part of Barkin Ladi LGAs of Plateau. Troops managed to intervene in 19 villages, but the damage had already been done in other locations.

Addressing concerns about the military’s response time, Edward acknowledged the importance of credible intelligence before an attack and assured the public that measures were being taken to enhance their capabilities.

He vowed that such incidents would not be repeated, stating, “Attacks on Plateau will never repeat itself. We have put modalities in place to ensure that whatever limited us the last time that did not allow us to get to some of these locations on time has been eliminated.”

The commitment to swift action and improved strategies reflects the military’s determination to protect the affected communities and prevent further tragedies.

  • North Made Sacrifices For Tinubu to Win, Says NEF

North Made Sacrifices For Tinubu to Win, Says NEF

Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the Director of Publicity and Advocacy, and Spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), emphasized that the North made a significant sacrifice for national unity by strategically supporting President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections, he revealed this in a recent interview with The Sun.

Suleiman highlighted the North’s political competitiveness and its commitment to a united Nigeria, citing the deliberate mobilization of votes to ensure Tinubu’s victory. He stressed that this intentional power shift from the North to the South underscored the region’s dedication to fostering national unity.

Read also: Eight Family Members Die in Tragic Auto Crash

“Another example of the North’s political competitiveness and sacrifice for national unity can be seen in the engineered shift of power to ensure the southern presidency of Bola Tinubu. Tinubu, a prominent politician from the Southwest, had aspirations for the presidency. However, the North recognized the need for a united Nigeria and the importance of accommodating the aspirations of other regions. To achieve this, the North strategically mobilised its votes to support Tinubu’s presidential bid. This deliberate shift of power from the North to the South was a testament to the region’s commitment to national unity.

“By enabling a Southern president, the North demonstrated its willingness to make sacrifices for the greater good of the country. These instances showcase the region’s political maturity and its ability to prioritize the country’s interests over its own. But to think of using undemocratic tactic to exclude the North from the presidential contest in 2027 or any other time, could lead to feelings of marginalisation and discontent among its populace.

The region has historically been a stronghold of political power, and denying it the opportunity to present candidates may be perceived as a deliberate attempt to sideline the North. Such marginalisation could fuel regional tensions and exacerbate existing socio-political divisions, potentially leading to unrest and instability. Nigeria’s political system relies on a delicate balance between the North and other regions.”

While acknowledging the North’s historical stronghold on political power, Suleiman cautioned against sidelining the region in the upcoming 2027 presidential bid.

He argued that any attempt to undemocratically exclude the North could breed feelings of marginalization and discontent among its populace.

He emphasized the delicate balance in Nigeria’s political system, emphasizing the need for inclusivity to maintain stability. Suleiman’s remarks serve as a reminder that the nation’s political landscape relies on a harmonious coexistence between the North and other regions.

Global Banking Giants Announce Unprecedented Job Cuts in 2023″

In an unforeseen development, major global banks, including UBS, Wells Fargo, and others, have collectively initiated substantial job cuts, surpassing 60,000 in the year 2023. This represents one of the most significant workforce reductions since the 2008 global financial crisis.

Several factors contribute to the rationale behind this extensive transformation. Notably, the integration of Credit Suisse into UBS has played a pivotal role in this industry-wide shake-up. Furthermore, the repercussions of declining fees have profoundly impacted Wall Street’s revenue streams, triggering a strategic reassessment of human resources within these financial institutions.

As the financial sector grapples with heightened instability and uncertainty, the aftermath of these extensive job cuts is poised to send shockwaves across industries and global economies. The implications of this major restructuring are likely to extend far beyond the confines of the banking sector, influencing the broader economic landscape.

What are the factors that influence the black market dollar rate?

Factors Influencing the Black Market Dollar Rate:

    Supply and Demand Dynamics:

      • The fundamental economic principle of supply and demand plays a significant role. If demand for the dollar is high relative to its supply, the exchange rate tends to rise, and vice versa.

    Economic Indicators:

    2. Quarry or Manufactured Sand: Artificially produced, ensuring uniform grain shapes and quality control.
    3. Red Earth (Pit Sand): Deposited on river banks or the earth’s surface, commonly used in construction for filling and roadworks.
    4. Gravel Stones: Also known as crushed stone, composed of various rocks like sandstone, basalt, and limestone.
    5. Granite Stones: Hard rocks of igneous origin, sourced from quartz, feldspar, or mica, prevalent in major cities like Akure, Lagos, Abuja, and Enugu.

    Ensuring Quality Construction Sand

To ascertain the suitability of sand for construction, specific conditions must be met:

    1. Silt Content: Less than 3% by weight (12% by volume in 10 minutes).
    2. Absence of Harmful Impurities: No salts, pyrites, coal, iron, alkalies, or other impurities.
    3. No Organic Materials: Sand should be free from organic materials.

Nigeria Urged to Pursue Negotiations with Bandits and Terrorists, Sheikh Gumi Advocates.

In a bold assertion, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, a prominent Kaduna-based Islamic cleric and former military officer, has called on the Nigerian government to shift its approach to tackling insecurity.

Sheikh Gumi emphasized the need for negotiations with bandits and other non-state actors plaguing the nation, suggesting that the government’s expenditure on military hardware may not be the most effective strategy.

During an interview with Trust TV, the cleric expressed the view that the root cause of security challenges in Nigeria, particularly in the North, can be traced back to the longstanding farmer-herder crisis. Sheikh Gumi argued that a more constructive solution lies in engaging in open discussions with the terrorists rather than pursuing a military offensive.

He further criticized the recent mistaken bombardment of Tudun Biri residents in Kaduna State by the Nigerian military. Sheikh Gumi deemed this incident as indicative of the necessity for the government to bolster the capacity of the police force, preventing military interference in internal security matters.

“This is not the first time such is happening. The military should fight the military. Tank by tank. Jet by jet. The military should be out of fighting insecurity. We are not fighting Cameroon or Togo,” the cleric asserted.
